The biggest thing I can tell you is to make sure you use capital letters, numbers, and symbols in your passwords. Doing that would pretty much null and void brute force hackers..

Obviously you don't know how brute force hackings work.

Facebook or hotmail isn't vulnerable to brute force. They have a security code so bots can't mass attempt passwords. Numbers and symbols wouldn't help however if they where.

Brute Forcing is the lowest form of hacking and very little sites allow their users to be vulnerable to it. Chances are you have been Dox'd and somebody has been able to recover to some extent.

Fix your security by making ALL security questions as secure as your password. Use more than one email. The email address you use for facebook should NOT be the same as the email you use for WG forums or Runescape.

Hacker could be somebody on a Facebook account which you have added a while ago. Giving them access to any important information over a period of time.

To hack a facebook you need to have access to the email address or the account would be locked for 24 hours before the attacker would have access to it.

Updated Guide

Making a quick guide on the most popular ways people manage to steal RS passwords. After reading Keanus' informative guide I decided to add to it quickly by telling you how to protect yourself from someone who actually has a decent knowledge of computers and not somebody who relies on Phishing.

All you need to protect yourself from attacks is common sense. Nothing more nothing less. Don't Run or Download anything you don't trust and even then, you could still be in trouble. I'm going to try and show you why.

R A T ( Remote Admin )

A remote administration tool (RAT) is usually the project of a Trojan download which i'm sure most of you know is a virus, i won't go into detail but once you have managed to achieve the status of having a RAT on your system you can expect the attacker to have the following access to your computer:

~Webcam Control
~File management (Meaning they can Download, Delete and Execute.
~Control of your shells via CMD
~Computer control
~Registry management
~Can log Keystrokes
~Can capture bankpins.

How to avoid being Ratted?

Disable automatic startup for applications that you only use occasionally. Anti-virus is more than likely going to fail to detect it.

Do NOT run any Java from sites that you have been linked to and or found on any Runescape Related site apart from the official Homepage. This includes any "IRC" chat links like Minichat etc. Any videos. All Private servers.

A RAT will be extremely difficult to detect.
A RAT will be quite hard to remove if you do not know where to look for it.

If you think you have been infected.

1. Download Malware Bytes Software.
2. Upload your Malware Bytes logs using http://www.pastebin.com
3. Private message me on IRC.

Reason being is that your original Software could be damaged and in turn not actually do what it's meant to. Always Remove it manually.

Trojan Downloader.

Usually a Trojan will appear as a normal program that the unsuspecting user downloads. Once it is run on the system, the designer then has access to that machine.

Once running, the Trojan then uploads hidden programs such as scripts and commands including RAT's and less advanced Loggers.

The Trojan is not necessarily the problem in itself as many are not malicious. Although find one on any runescape related programs and this gives the attacker access to download what he wants on your computer.

How to avoid

Any programs you are planning to download. Upload them on www.virustotal.com. This will scan the program with 20-30 different anti virus programs which is allot more accurate than just using your own. If anything malicious appears. Trojan or not Google it, if you don't like the look of it don't open or run your downloaded file. FILES ARE NOT DANGEROUS UNLESS YOU HAVE GIVEN THEM PERMISSION TO EXECUTE. Meaning you can download a file packed with thousands of malicious programs and as long as you don't run it you won't be harmed.

JAVA DRIVEBY

A Java Drive-by is a webpage that creates a fake java applet. When a victim goes to the website, they will get a java box asking permission to run. If they click Run, the virus will be downloaded and executed.

A very popular and discreet way of spreading a Virus.

As you know Runescape needs permission from Java to load it's client. A malicious program will be found and look VERY similar to what you see on the Runescape Page. With the difference being that when you click "RUN" you will have given permission for the attacker to download the RAT onto your system and therefor Gwas your bank.

Teamviewer.

App used to view your friends monitor, often to help him in some way. Basically they can Download malicious software using this method. Be carefull if you do ever use it. Low risk but it's basically a trust issue.

Morale of the story is.

DO NOT RUN ANY .EXE FILES YOU THINK ARE SUSPICIOUS WITHOUT UPLOADING THEM ON WWW.VIRUSTOTAL.COM OR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO PROVE THEIR INTEGRITY.

DO NOT RUN ANY JAVA YOU FIND ON ANY RUNESCAPE FAN SITES OR ANY OTHER SHITTY SITE.

How do you know this works?

Because i have been hacked 0 times. I plan to keep it that way.

All attacks will revolve around .EXE files in one form or another.

Keanu has covered the rest with his guide.

Don't be noobs.

The guide is maybe a bit hard to read but if you feel you do need help then take the time.

Join the Clan / [Accepted]Hi
January 17, 2012, 07:02:23 PM
1. What is your current Runescape username, and what are your past usernames if any?

Prairie_Ox

2. Tell us about your RuneScape account and history (e.g. when you started, what your RSN means, favourite activities etc.):

The first account i made was a runepure back in 2005 due to the influence certain videos had on me. Recently in late 2011 i decided to get defence. Over the 6 years as a runepure i was heavily involved in all areas of PvP including clanning. I never got around to skilling and everything i did was to help keep up with the PvP updates.

3. Tell us about yourself (Name (if you are comfortable), gender, age, country, hobbies, music, talents, likes and dislikes):

My name is Andy, i am 19 years old from Northern Ireland. I skate allot, currently studying ICT and hope to go to university in September. I have skated for 8 years and have never let it go. Along with skating i enjoy a wide range of music and could not for the life of me name a favourite.

4. How did you hear about us and what makes you want to join WG or DG? Also, which of these two clans are you applying for?

WG

As someone who has been in quite a few clans over the years i have yet to see one with this sort of community. I have yet to sort out my eligibility to join WG as i am currently a member of FF (EST based P2P Team) but i thought i would give it a shot. If given the chance i look forward to getting involved with the community as i love meeting all kinds of people. I am also very experienced in P2P clanning and believe i could contribute allot given the chance.

5. If you have been in other clans before, what clans were they and what was your involvement with them?

Higher Force was with them for a little while maybe 5 years ago.

Exertion - Loved the experience don't regret it, they closed a while ago as the #2 runepure tank clan. Rumors where that me and a few friends were going to reopen them but it fell through due to lack of commitment.

Phalanx was here from start to nearly finish, the best clanning experience i have had to date.

Infliction (1) Left due to complications with Phalanx.

(2)- This is where it all went wrong. Long story if you want more details then you can pm me.

RSD- Brief intro, didn't enjoy the large community.

Team Requiem - Was a fun old time

Serenity - Briefly before the opening of Phalanx.

Team_Sin - Miniwar Team, didn't take off

Valhalla- Joined shortly before they closed :(

Frozen_Fury- Loving the experience right now

Multiple RSB clans not included

6. Have you read, understood and agree to abide by the rules of this clan?

Yes, some of them i will when i have time

After Pming his lordship I was informed i MAY be given a chance. So i thought i would take 10 minutes to find out. I am not expecting to be accepted so please don't hesitate to close this if you feel i would be a threat in some way. Any additional information you would like you can PM me on Irc. My nick is icheckley, i often idle in your lobby.

I'm up for being 100% honest with any questions you have regarding my history.

I love honor although my clan history tells a different story. My first and most enjoyable experiences were with Honor clans in which i wasn't even able to teleport or pray in edgeville without being kicked.

I know allot about computers and can prevent any members from being hacked if they feel they are downloading something that is potentially unsafe i will certainly check it over for them first.
