The police has arrested two people (14 and 15) from Leeuwarden because they abused a 13y old person from their village. The boys were after the online points the 13y old had, the boy was very good at the game and they wanted his points to play on with it. The two boys came across him in the city, took him home, beat and kicked him there and threatened him with a knife. They forced the boy to give them his account. The police arrested them and they confessed to the abuse and threats there. Runescape is an online videogame with medieval fantasy style, the goal is to gain experience points. about 5 million people worldwide play this game, this can be done for free or for paid membership with extra futures. According to the friesian police this is not a case standing alone, but there have been other places in the country where people have been threatened over a video game. The police is worried because youth plays more and more without parental control or school control, and even if they do it often does not help because parents have no clue what these children do online. A year and a half ago there was also a case regarding Runescape where a 14y old hung himself when he thought his friend hacked his account, he was in the top 10 of best players. Afterwards it was found out his friends had nothing to do with this. - they've been charged with abuse and threatening in real life, they got 180 hours of duty work as punishment for that, the judge is still deciding if theres theft involved because they stole his online items, if he got those items because of his membership there is a good chance on it because membership involves real life money and thus punishable. --------------------  A.R.T. They did, but that article was untrue. The kid was your classic suicide-er, somebody who hated themselves. He had no friends in real life.But then in RuneScape he had one friend who he treasured very dearly. But the treasured friend scammed the kid, so he hung himself. And yes, I was around on RS when it happened, and yes, I read all the articles and stuff back then. I think my information is pretty legit, but of course, there are always discrepancies. --------------------   | ||

| IRC Nickname: Group: Guest Posts: 16 Member No.: 1376 Joined: October 14, 2008 Total Events Attended: 0 | yes suicide is never a good idea, you don't even know if it'll be better in death, but while ur alive you can be sure you can change things even if the set of choices don't have always seem to be good at first, if you look at the huge amount of changes you get between being 1y old to being say 20years old it's pretty safe to say the only thing certain about the rest of your life is that there will be changes in your situation and way of feeling, though a drastic change of behavior can speed up that change a lot as well. but that's not really what the post is about though, it's more the fact people abuse others over a video game and there are crimes about a videogame like this coming on tv, the hate(jealousy) for others in this game and how normal violence is for kids nowadays has grown that much it takes shape outside the game and that's a concerning evolvement because this is not an ageold problem, i've only seen and heard things like this in the last 2 years. ps. rs does take steps in this, i think it's already over a year old (maybe since that suicide?) but they are in touch with a lot of protective services for children, in fact if you are abused and call the police then jagex has a special email adress for the police to mail to. -------------------- A.R.T.
