Basically, Im annoyed.

Emeritus, used to be given to those that had achieved the rank of Higher Guardian +. NO EXCEPTIONS. Why is it being given out whenever. If a person, hasn't done anything, to deserve promotion, then they dont deserve Emeritus.

Also.

Emeritus, Basically WHAT THE HELL?

The idea, is that you still attned wars, and are slightly active on forums. 3/4 of our emeritus, we hear from..like once a month. Sometimes even less. If you dont sign up for wars, that are mandatory sign up. You should be moved to Ex-member from Now. Simple as.

Comment.

I kinda disagree.

What if at one point we had a lot of dedicated members and we already had enough higher+
It would be slightly unfair for some of those dedicated members who unfortunately couldn't get higher ONLY because of a certain number limit that the clan reached on higher+ to not get Emeritus.

Yes, but just attending wars, and events isn't dedication. Its doing things, that go against the normal call of duty. Like going out of your way, to help people and stuff. Its what gets you noticed. Its what makes you stand out, that makes you worthy of promotion.

Yeah but I don't think you got my point.

Sometimes, people deserve a promotion but don't get it. Why? Mostly because there are enough Higher+ at this time. Don't these members deserve special treatment because of this?

I'm not into favouritism but sometimes, it's best to not follow the rules in every single word.

Then the council, need to be more sharp on promotion. How can there be 'to many' Highers? Elite is the super special one. Like should only be given to exceptional members and dedication.

Didn't know there was a limited number of Higher Guardian spots tbh? And really, if there was a number limit, then I guess us Higher Guardians had to work hard to be worthy to be chosen and be one within the limited.

If we have to do it, others should too.

Obvious exceptions being people like Rick, and Bassism and stuff, who have done alot for WG in the past.

I sorta thought that was how they give it out now. Idk I was in the clan a long time before I got higher. Sometimes there are quiet people who may go unnoticed too. Like the ones that meet you in the game and loan stuff at a moments notice or open doors or bring you food or save your bandit spots. Some of our really good members are guardians.

I will give an example cause I can lol

Joe is an excellant example of a great WG member. He helps me out with combat and war questions. He is uaully available to chat when you need him. I've seen him trying to help the raid leaders and different stuff for our wars too. He has been around a long time too. Just cause he is not higher, if he did leave I think he would be deserving of that rank. (Joe don't even think of leaving!!!! I'll have Omar get his barb wire out after you. @-@)

Well as far as i have always known there has been no cap on the amount of Higher Guardians or Elite guardians However it would look weird to have a mass amount more of elite or higher guardians then normal guardians because it should not be an easy rank to achieve but something that takes time and dedication.

I also agree on the fact that some people who are Guardian rank who are given exceptional emeritus or even if they do not want emeritus are worthy of the higher guardian rank especially Joe.

I think perhaps we should have 1 major war a month and if you do not sign up no matter your rank you are kicked out it is not that hard to check the forums once a month.

Emeritus is and has always been an inactive rank. There is no obligation for emeritus to attend wars. However, emeritus should be somewhat active in the community, and should make the effort to sign up for wars when they can.

QUOTE (His Lordship)
As an emeritus member, your obligation is to sign up and not attend. Your requirement involves nothing more than posting. Our restriction of emeritus influence in WG holds true. You are not held to the same rigid standards as the normal members.

I do agree with you though that emeritus should be an earned rank, and should not be given out with exceptions.

As for those who say we should not have an emeritus rank, I would say you are being very short-sighted. Maybe you will play RS for your whole life, but most people either grow up and become inactive due to college, work, or other real life duties, or simply grow out of RS. Emeritus is a way for these people, to remain part of the community, and we are much richer as a clan for it. It is our way or recognizing that to many of our members WG is actually much more important than RS.

NO - there was ALWAYS the exception to Higher Guardian - in special circumstances.
Promotions aren't given out very often, and when they are- not to many members.

Yea Karl. I agree, well kinda agree with you on the most part. But if its a mandatory sign up. And some emeritus dont sign up, they should be given Ex member.

I also never said tha the emeritus rank should be removed. You have to remember, was also emeritus for a while, But always posted on war topic, when I was required to. It doesnt hurt to check the forums every week for 5 mins. Even with my hectic IRL back then, i still had time. I willing to bet you still check your mail. Do it at the same time?

Oh yea. Kiwi, if you wanna comment. Feel free Son. But posting that, isn't called for. I will glady have a discussion with you. But im not flaming the rank, in anyway. Becuase I like it. I also dont have a problem with you Kiwi. Because you are active on the forums, and post regularly.

But if you wanna be a big-man, and flame me. Pm me.

okay heres what i think...

Honestly, one of the main reasons people join WG is COMMUNITY. Why should we be the ones to take away such friendship and fellowship from people that dont have the same opportunities to play as much as you?

Honestly i think your trying to fight a war that has nothing to deal with you in the first place. Exceptions can be made, and rules can be AMMENDED, NOT BROKEN, to conform to the needs of WG and its members.

TIMES CHANGE, OPPORTUNITIES CHANGE, AND OUTLOOKS CHANGE.

I think with the right perspective of these things, giving emeritus to a person who doesn't meet the criteria is perfectly fine.

Plano,

Emeritus, is an honoured rank within WG. At the minute. It is being abused. People are asking for it, and tehn we here from them, like once a month. A community is fine, but there not exactly helping hte community, if there not around.

Plano, it does not just just involve me, it involves eveyone. Emeritus, used to be sacred. And now its worth nothing. Might aswell delete the rules for it. Because at the minute, anyone can have it. All you have todo is ask. Not fair.

My view on this...

If the Emertius Member in question has truly done a lot for WG and is still known around the Forums and the Clan as someone that deserves respect, why force them to go War? Back when I gained Emertius it was given because that certain Member did so much for WG and it's Members, and didn't want to leave the Clan.

I, and most of the original Emertius people, have done more than their fair share of work in WG which is why we became Emertius so people could see that, and remember what they had done.

What the rank has become to this day, in my eyes, completely ruins idea of it.

Someone is here for four months and decides that they just hate the game? Well hello Ex-Member.

Emertius is a rank given to those Members who exceeded the expectations, who truly became Legends in the Clan History. Not for people who want to cry about not wanting to play the game but not leave WG either.

[Edit]

P.S, I'm tired, haven't slept much, and just feel like ranting myself so don't expect this to make a lot of sense. wink2.gif

If you want my take on it, I think the requirement for Emeritus should be raised to Elite+ NO EXCEPTIONS.

Heres my two cents:

1. Yes, I think emeritus must be earned. Of course, there are discrepencies in what "earned" is. Does it mean you've been in the clan for over a year? Been a council member? Been Higher Guardian+? Maybe a majority of the current WG members know you? (If the last one's the case, I might fail myself hashdown.gif.png )

Each viewpoint of what "earned" means is different. Emeritus is based largely on opinion, as its not strictly defined as what the requirements are to merit emeritus. Whether there should be specific guidelines, thats up to the active members and leaders.

2. I agree that emeritus should post on important things, such as War Sign-Ups, and actively browse the forums. However, each emeritus is different in his/her ability to be active. Some emeritus I haven't seen for a while.

Lets take Mike for example (Tnuac). He's emeritus. He just recently moved to Uni and I haven't heard from him in over a month. Does he still deserve emeritus? Well, going back to what I said, that depends on the person's viewpoint. I'd say yes in a heartbeat. Mike has done so much for the clan that it'd be spitting in his face to throw him out since he hasn't been able to get on the computer for four weeks (Hasn't been on facebook either, so its not like he's just avoiding us).

Although, emeritus should try to be active on clan forums and attend wars if humanely possible. Emeritus should love this clan, and be here because they like the community and the people, not because they want a "free ride" without any hassle. There are a bunch of guys in this clan that I'd hate to loose contact with, and thats one of the reasons why I'm emeritus.

Yes, I attend wars whenever possible. I think its a good thing, but it depends largely on how busy the emeritus is. Most emerituses loved this clan once, and real life just took over, so they don't have time to play rs anymore. They still want to be around this clan, so a good number of them should want to go to wars, such as myself.

3. Omar, on saying that Emeritus shouldn't be a rank, I have a lot fo say to that, but I won't say it. I'll just leave it as, I strongly disagree. Emeritus rank was created for a reason, and it serves its purpose. We're founded on community, and a good number of people who helped out in the past have moved on in real life, but still want to stay connected to the clan.

Plus, if Emeritus was not a rank, I could probably "get away" with becoming a member rank. No, I wouldn't really be too active, nor would I contribute like I did in the past (at least I hope I contributed in the past wink.gif ), but I'd be able to maintain the rank. One event a week is easy, maybe an hour a week. But being emeritus means I'm not weighing you guys down with my own inactivity. Would you guys be better off with another 30-40 inactive members, or leaving us as emeritus? sleep.gif

Emeritus should stay. Yeah, they should try to attend, but they're shouldn't really be forced to. We're emeritus for a reason.

Not to point fingers or anything, but theres over double the members in WG than emeritus. WG members are suppose to be active. Emeritus aren't suppose to be the ones to jump start activity in the clan, we're retired. If you're looking to get more activity, then Emeritus just seem to be the scapegoat, in my opinion. We pull maybe 40 people to a war, with 90 people on our memberlist. In those 40, maybe 5 are emeritus. How much do you expect from emeritus and how much do you expect from the members of this clan, the active members.

I could say more, but I'll stop there.

I fully agree emeritus needs to be an earned rank, but not really with the other stuff. The whole point of being emeritus is that you are not an active rs player anymore. They can't be forced to attend wars, or anything else for that matter. They are honored members that have that rank so they can still communicate and be involved with the clan, without playing a game they have no interest in anymore.

Mango, Mike was on IRC onnnnn friday tongue.gif you missed him to be Honest. We had a whole..10min chat before he left. But he also informed me, he has been checking the forums smile.gif

Im not in the slightest saying, that im blaming emeritus is to blame for activity. Because its not. But im just annoyed, that its being given out, to randoms. Because they have been in the clan basically.

WHAT?!?! I MISSED MIKE? IF YOU SEE THIS MIKE....Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

And yes, I do agree with you that emeritus should not be given to random people, though "random" in the eyes of you may be different than "random" in the eyes of the council member.

And also, maybe its possible that the member asked for emeritus and the council member felt he/she had to say yes. This is in no way specific to any council member (I'm not active enough to know if this is a problem anyway), but people in the past have had problems saying "No" to others. They're just nice people, and don't like letting down others in any way. Well, if this is the case to any tertiary or council member, he/she has to be tougher.

I had to learn to do the same when I first became a mod. I said yes to something I shouldn't have on my first day of mod, and got scolded by James (Rai of Light) tongue.gif So if its applicable, then it should also be addressed, as a random member might ask to be emeritus, and although he/she does not deserve it, it might be given to him/her.

The point of emeritus is that the member is inactive.

Emeritus have barely any obligations to the clan. It's a rank of nostalgia and people who have done more for the clan than half of the people who are currently Guardians together.

A recent person who was deleted (Xena) is someone whom I felt was unneeded. I'm pretty sure Lordy knows that Xena has better things to do than play rs considering she has 2 (?) kids if I recall correctly.

I do agree that nobody under Higher guardian deserves Emeritus but from what I've seen some of the Higher/Elite guardians don't deserve it either.

Emeritus has been a rank that was given to certain members to honour them in the past and it was a rank that was given to show that what they've done for Wg was something out of the ordinary. It was more off a "thanks for what you've done and feel free to pop by whenever you have free time again." Back then it wasn't even expected for Emeritus to post.

Then alot of Whiny members joined and decided that Emeritus should be more active.

Just let them Emeritus members be. Wg was always a clan that valued their members and the efforts of those members over their warring skills and I find it pathetic that some people wish to change the very core of what makes Wg the clan that stands out of the crowd.

If you want a clan that is purely warring and pking based then you're simply in the wrong place.
