It is all fine to voice what you "want" but I think Mumble covers the "need" part for us atm.  Mumble doesn't cost anything and it works with a few exceptions that Robbie has now worked out.  The quality of the sound is fine.

TS3 may be awesome and offer 50 mil options and extras but do we "need" all that?  I think for the moment we need to stick with Mumble.  Maybe, when Robbie is free from his other things he will look at the options for us.

I can probably list the people who hang out everyday on Mumble with me.  I didn't see their comments as negative.

Mickey has a TS3 server we can use for free, so cost is not a problem.

Not anymore I don't.

TS3 is free anyway, I don't see why you guys think it isn't neko2.gif

Oh wait Randy is the only mod on.
Oh hello Ludo.
Between Ludo and Randy, I'm guessing randy is deleting my posts.
That's ok. I'm going to delete your account and then i'm going to have revenge-wanking to celbrate.

You know, I shouldn't get into this sort of argument - I get pulled in way too far. But I always feel I have to set things straight.

It sounds nice... but don't we have those already?

1. All new codecs for superior voice quality - we have custom-designed CELP codec for just that. But, I suppose, Mumble is more focused on lower latency and bandwidth over extremely nice voice quality.
2. Incredibly flexible permissions system - We have that too. I have access to "layered" permissions for all channels, group and user permissions(every action from speaking, listening, moving, being moved, as well as "whispering" between channels)
3. Multiple servers - Erm... why would you want that? You can only really listen to one group at a time, same with talking. Mumble also has the next best thing - the # of users in each "favorited" server when you bring up the connect window.
4. IM/irc style chatting: Not quite - but we can talk to user/channel/subchannel.
5. Friends list with offline messaging - Nope. we don't have this. But erm... we don't exactly need it either, what with IRC, forums and MSN...
6. Community-driven plugins system: Yes, we have that too...
7. firewall-friendly file transfer: Um... can anyone say 'feature creep'?
8. BBcode enabled info panes: no, but you don't need it, and it just takes up CPU power.
9. Completely customizable UI: Yes, we have it
10. Individual user mic gain: No. But we deliberately don't have it. Instead, we have a system which brings all users mics to the same relative level(within reason - if your mic is -too- weak, there is only so much it can do) - allowing for each chatting without adjusting the volume.
11. Text to speech and True 3D sound: Yes to both, but we don't want or use them. 3D sound is only good for games that support it, of which Mumble has a large list also.
12. Custom User Avatars: Actually, it does support this, though only for the overlay. Also, I haven't enabled it.

-----------
All that being said, the relative feature lists of Mumble, TS3 and Ventrillo are actually pretty close. Mumble just doesn't advertise as much.
The only real differences we care about are how well they work for us. The most important thing to think about is if those of us with slow computers can run it without lagging.
Now, I've heard many negative things about Mumble, but lagging or not being able to run it are not on that list.

TS3.
Mumble isnt all that bad, its mostly just the fact that -no- other clan has it. So when we have allied events, public events or newer members, they all will have have to download a new program and configure it.
This may not seem like a big deal but it does make a difference, whereas alot of people have already switched to Ts3 and so it will be alot less of a hassle.

Ontop of this, Ts3 is better than mumble from what i've experienced. The quality, the features, the ease of access etc

3. im/irc style text communication

Ok so TS3 and Mumble have similar features, but a lot of WG used TS2 before, and the layout is pretty much the same, meaning it's easier for a former TS2 member to navigate (AKA, most of WG). For the same reasons listed above, TS3 is easier to configure for the average WG member.

Most of the clan world is migrating to TS3, meaning that most of the clan world has it installed already. If we were to invite friends from other clans, or our allies, the likelihood is that they already have TS3 installed, whereas they would have to go and download Mumble and configure it if they wanted to attend.

As for lag, well, I was on a TS3 server with over 50 people in the channel I was in, whereas I was on our mumble server, with one other person in the channel. This was the result:

Aswell as that, Mumble takes a minute or two to load, and TS3 loads almost instantly.

Conclusion:

TS3 & Mumble have a similar feature list, yet TS3 uses less resources, is easier to use/configure for the average WG member, and is easier for allies and friends to access our audio when we are PKing therefore TS3 offers more than Mumble.

Honestly, you have something wrong with your computer.
I just went to my Windows XP install on my PC, installed the latest version of Mumble. I got it all configured, closed it
I then timed how long it took to open, from clicking on it in the start menu until it actually appeared and was usable: 2.76 seconds.

Memory usage does appear to be a bit higher at "idle", though it doesn't seem to vary when someone is talking.
CPU usage varies between "1%" and "4%", even when someone is talking - though overall CPU time(the total amount of the time the CPU devoted to running mumble), is pretty low - I asked another member with Vista what his CPU time was - less than 3 minutes over a couple of hours.

Still, niether program is taking up enough memory or cpu to be a problem.

Also, easier for general members to use and configure:
Um, what. Download the program, install, follow configuration tutorial, run.
5 minutes.

The only real argument you have is that our allies don't have Mumble. That, however, is a fair issue, and something I will consider.

Personally never had any issues with any of the Audios Robbie is great with helping you configure mumble, But i'm just thinking of the lower end of the age group who may have difficulty in mumble or such. I'm fine either way though.

TS3 IS COOL BECAUSE YOU CAN TYPE STUFF TOO NOW SIT DOWN AND MOVE TO TS3.

Jk, but I just like TS3 better. It's simpler, more people use it, it's sleeker, more stuff, and just plain looks better.

Just going to post here, a lot of people experience lag due to mumble while raiding, I have experienced it a bit myself, it can get quite bad too, I'm pretty sure that's the cause of the problem as when i used Ts2 i didn't lag at all.

Yea, last raid I lagged too. Probably because of Mumble.
