I agree with Kevin.
I don't really see the benefits, except including more people in the day to day running of the clan... (forums-wise)...

Moderation doesn't take long... if anything it's the one part of the schedule of a council member that doesn't require too much effort and time.

It seems unnecessary to me to create a rank that is solely for the purpose of moderation. Every staff member is already a moderator, even if their primary focus is not moderation. Regardless, I find the combined moderation efforts we have from all staff to be more than sufficient.

Do any of you have any specific reasons on why having moderators is necessary? So far I have only seen two, updating war sign ups and IRC moderation, and I don't really see the need for an additional IRC mod, as we always have an active rank in the channel.

That's not true more often than not. There have been plenty of times where there is no active staff (including JC as he has op).

Please don't call it moderator. Sounds so boring and non-exclusive..

Go for Community Leader/Manager/Coordinator or something..

nah, it was ALWAYS called Moderator.

Community Leaders -> Moderator -> Application Manager

The change occurred when sectors were eliminated.

This is the smartest thing ive ever seen you say. We absolutely need this especially for in irc. think Kev is wrong on this one theres plenty of times where theres 5 ranks in irc and all of them are idle and we have some spastic mass Hling the channel

So bring in more IRC operators, like JC, but obviously mix them around the timezones.
We've done it before and we can do it again, but to solve this IRC problem I don't think that moderators are the solution.

Plenty of times, really? It happens once and all of the sudden it happens "plenty of times"?

Not sure what one time you talking about but there's been plenty of one times which is why JC was even given IRC op in the first place.

Plus how would you know if it happened once hash.png if the point is that ranks weren't there to see it or paying attention

Yeah, your right. Oh wait, I see half the time, that our Half Ops aren't on, probly busy, and our +AO Op's are always afk. Your right, no need for Mod for an extra help. Alright.

Keanu will have half op soon and that gives us an additional irc moderator. I believe with Randy leaving and Jayson stepping down or leaving, this will mean we will at least be looking for a Raid Leader as well. That should replace the needed moderators for us. As the clan member list grows this may be more needed but at the moment I don't think it will be put in place.

Come to June 11, TS Clan Meeting, we can better discuss the pros and cons then.

Thank you Garrett and Dallar.

I disagree with 'Always AFK', just because people aren't talking doesn't always mean that they're away. In many cases people are in more than one channel & hence might be concentrating elsewhere (eg. I am normally in 6 or more channels & I am Half op/op in all of them).

If there is a problem in #wg_lobby (or #wg) you should highlight or PM an OP. If I am at my PC I might not be paying attention to IRC, however I will always look as soon as I can if I am highlighted or PM'd

My Highlights are:

JC
Evil
[JC]

I really struggle with you guys suggesting Staff are always afk as that is not the case 95% of the time. Don't assume someone is afk just because they're not talking

Much like Robbie and the forums, if we're not looking at #wg_lobby at the time where there is an issue we won't know until someone tells us. It is your responsibility as members to tell us if you see a problem, as good as some of us are, we're not psychic and we don't know everything.

So yeah:
  • Tell staff if you see a problem, don't just assume they're not there
  • Highlights are a fantastic tool, I've posted mine above but in most cases just saying a staff member's IRC name will highlight them.
  • More staff is not a solution, no matter how many people you have there is always going to be the occasional gap where no-one is around

Oh god why

@JC, when an issue comes up I try highlighting staff. When they don't respond I go oh they're AFK lolz
