I bet I've kicked less people in the last half year than you have intro.gif

What happened to our irc? It used to be a fun place. There is no reason for unwarranted kicks. In my mind, they should be dealt with. The people who have the ability to kick should be responsible.

its a fun place......until one person "annoys" a hop and gets kicked for no reason....then its stupid and gay and retarded. Especially after the 4th time or so.

how were our names reason to kick, they weren't, if you saw the convo above there was no reason at all. Neither was the ban for the same reason from lobby.

Well, seeing as this is so important to various people, I may as well add my two cents to this whole party.

I was there, and eve participated twice (I think?) in asking Rob for a war (politely mind you). In any case I wasn't kicked (as far as I know, I don't monitor the IRC like a hawk).

That's just a little background.

So, the thing is that the people who do have power have almost always have to take the high road. If someone makes a joke about you, let it be. Most of the time they are just having some harmless fun. It is power abuse when you kick someone because they make a joke about you, or start to irritate you. The power is not here for you and your personal reasons, it's with you because you've been trusted to use it with good judgement and kick only when necessary (increased swearing and use of profanity are some examples).

Now, on to the "abused" people. You shouldn't provoke them. They abuse their power simply because you're bugging the hell out of them. If you don't want to get kicked, don't spam or bother them profusely. Just a couple of stupid messages every once in a while is fine and makes for a good laugh, not multiple people constantly saying "we want a war!" That doesn't do anything but aggravate those with power. If you do that, you're asking to be kicked because you're leading them on, putting you at fault.

Both parties need to back up and re-think their actions. Meaning those who can kick can't have the mindset of "Shut up or I'll kick you," even if it goes on for longer than it needs to because it's power abuse. Using the no spamming rule is just a scapegoat for getting your way, and is almost like a red flag for power abuse. I don't mean that it's not a rule, but it's a rule that can apply to practically anything and is like a freebie. Those who were kicked can't just think "If he kicks me, it's power abuse and I'm in the right, so I do this," because you can't. If you do what you want, when you want and listen to nobody, you're asking to be punished. For a while it's funny, but after a few minutes you're just being babies. Grow up and just say "alright, I had my fun, I'll be quiet for 30 minutes and maybe come back."

Settle this like mature teenagers please.

Buzz, not to be rude or anything, but stop being so defensive. It's like you're attacking Randy for stating his opinion. You're shoving this evidence in his, and everyone else's faces like it's a killing blow. All it's doing is making more people angry because it's as if (note that I'm saying "as if" not declaring your actual intentions) you're showing everyone you can't be wrong. Sure you pointed out the power abuse kicks, but that was more of a "see, you're blowing this out of proportion, shut up," rather than a "alright, so there was some power abuse going on, I'll look into that more and see what I can do to decrease that kind of behavior."

A kick as joke, like DZ showed is ok in once in a while. However, when it becomes a constant thing people wont like it.

I will however admit that I deserved it though intro.gif

You won't get kicked if you don't say anything unless they start playing the kick all game or activity check. I won't post anything else since I follow my own path though it may conflict with yours.

PS /ignore <name> is always an option rather than kicking. wink.gif

Actually its become the norm rather than the rule.
All the ops/hops kick for no good reason. Someone gets "annoyed" and they kick/ban someone ?
Excuse me that is stupid beyond words. You warn someone to act right, give them a chance to straighten up before you kick them. It is abuse if its done repeatedly.
Gorge was playing around and threatened to kick me the other day cause I said "goodnite fatty" to him.
I told him point blank..you kick me and I won't come back in irc again.
It has gotten to the point none of the rules are being followed.
The "sex" talk is out the roof, spam is out of control at times.
Remember though the IRC is our community, it is what bonds us together.
Before you get kick happy, remember the person you are kicking is a REAL person and they do have feelings.
Someone is going to get hurt by this. Put yourself in their place before you let your emotions rule what you do.
I remember the good times in the irc when we would joke around and have so much fun. Those days seem golden now in my memory.
Just try and be more thoughtful of what you do. I think that would be the solution rather than finger pointing.
It's a useless thing and honestly not worth the stress it causes.
This is just my two cents.

Jenny

Okay so before this topic becomes a flamefest/off topic/locked, I would just like to sum up this whole topic as we need to enforcethe rules and make more strict guidelines. We need to cut down on the sex talk because not everyone is comfortable with it, and we need to stop pointless kicking.

Thank you and goodnight

Yeh... Then some one says something completely off topic and has a total double meaning.... Shove that rule back in every few days until it becomes normal?

Buzz, not to be rude or anything, but stop being so defensive. It's like you're attacking Randy for stating his opinion. You're shoving this evidence in his, and everyone else's faces like it's a killing blow. All it's doing is making more people angry because it's as if (note that I'm saying "as if" not declaring your actual intentions) you're showing everyone you can't be wrong. I'm putting this evidence there because I want people to see what they've been kicked for, if they want to see I can show them the whole convo before it. I'm not trying to throw this in anyones face like a "killing blow" as you call it.

What I am doing is trying to show people the ratio of real kicks to that of the power abuse kicks. However, you are right, I do think this was blown out of proportion just a tad bit. This is actually what I'm talking about. Again, not to be rude, but when you come back all defensive like "Well actually that is not at all what I'm doing, so you're wrong," it's like you're attacking the person you're quoting.

Rather than being all defensive and shooting down all my opinions, you could have just said,

"Well, that wasn't what I was trying to get across, but I can see what you're saying that my actions can be interpreted in ways I don't intend. I'll try to not come across as defensive the next time. "

That gets the job done. You've said that wasn't what you meant, and you've accepted that maybe you're not perfect in everything you do.

It's like in most jobs, if you do something like comment on a girls skirt, and the take it as sexual harassment, you can lose your job. You were just being nice, but they didn't see it that way, and they way that it's interpreted is all that matters.

The same applies here. If you don't even acknowledge that you might be appear to be defensive in the way you clear your name, or state why you do what you do the way you do it and people see it as defensive they may start off on a bad foot with you. You may calmly tell them to stop spamming and they may ignore you. Time passes and hey get worse, continue to ignore you and you're forced to take action. they then quit, or start bringing down morale (not intended to sound like this situation at all, but it's the only thing I can think of that fits the example).

I hope you understand what I'm saying because it's not an attack towards you, but more like a suggestion.

Fun in moderation, very annoying when the moderation's breached.

Some of it has been for legitimate reasons, but other times, just messing around. Some newer members may look at the kicking and think 'what's going on?', and with good reason.

Wow and I thought the IRC was well maintained. Some people need a bit more maturity and shouldn't over-use the kick button. It's a privilege to moderating the IRC channel, be proud and don't abuse it.

As jenny says, the SPAM and sex talk is out of control, Atleast give a Reason to why you are going to kick someone instead of no reason or stupid pointless messages such as "no u".

Also i agree with Joe, there is always the /ignore <name> option if someone is annoying you or getting out of hand. Mass kicks are pointless too, they achieve nothing.

I agree with this topic 90% randy, what you must realise is that there are some people with a different sense of humour and find it funny if someone is kicked. Myself on the other hand does not and i would like it to stop.

As for the no sex talk, this should be a Perm Rule, it makes the IRC Channel look untidy and there maybe some people in there who are not adults and do not like that kind of sex talk.

Honestly I'm real tired of the Sex talk and figured I would mention that since it came up.
As most of you know, I've been trying to focus on greeting new members of late, and everytime i look at #WG, I'm scared to death that as soon as they get in the clan they are going to turn around and leave because ALL anyone seems to talk about in there is spam and sex.

I enjoy a good time as much as anyone else, but #WG is not for that.
And the 3 days without sex talk?
No offense but that is bullshit.
I was in there for those 3 days and all it was, was a mockery. The talk still happened it was just like it would come up and someone would say "LOL GLAD ABS ISN'T HERE" and then the talk would carry on.
Freaking ridiculous.
