It's verily been AGES since anyone on the rogue forums was this willfully stupid, or so persistent in defending their stupidity. It's so much fun! Entertainment mostly starts on pages 3-4, @ Grubi. (And I totally just brought up Hitler). So sorry Ippon is missing this.

How much rsgp you offering? tongue.gif

I'll get you to 85 in about a week if you're at 76 now.

Ps Garrote is a bleeding opener for rogues, just like cheapshot/ambush. SnD means slice and dice

I wrote a guide for that!

Grubi was trolling hard, but basically he was arguing for a fast/fast weapon setup for an assassination rogue (using two 1.4-second daggers instead of a 1.8-second in the mainhand and a 1.4-second in the offhand). This was actually viable for awhile back in Wrath of the Lich King, when most of our damage came from weapon attacks and when those attacks had a chance to refund energy (which rogues use to make more attacks).

In Cataclysm though, most of our damage comes from poisons, and regular attacks no longer have a chance to refund energy. We use two different poisons, each with a different proc mechanic. Instant poison works best on a slower weapon, hence the 1.8-second mainhand. Also, slower weapons hit harder when used for special attacks like mutilate/backstab. Deadly poison's best on a faster weapon, hence the 1.4-second offhand. For assassination, the offhand also has a 50% damage penalty, so it makes sense to put the weaker dagger there.

From Stealth: Garrote (otherwise Mutilate) > SnD > Mutilate (Only if no CP procs) > Rupture
You can't get a ruthlessness proc off SnD, switch SnD with rupture and you're golden.
Garrote is an opening bleed attack that deals damage every two seconds and has a chance to trigger venomous wounds, a deep assassination talent that can deal significant poison damage. Bleeds also refund energy for assassination rogues. You have to use it from stealth and from behind your target though, so if that's impossible for any given reason you open with mutilate, which is assassination's primary combo-point builder on targets between 100-35% health (combo points are used for finisher abilities, you can build up between 1-5 and the more combo points you have on a target the more effective your finishers are).

You get one combo point from garrote which you should immediately put into rupture, another bleed that does everything garrote does, basically, but as a finisher (consumed combo points on the target). Actual rupture damage is extremely minor (like 1-2% of overall damage, minor) so you don't use many combo points keeping it running. The main effect is energy regeneration and venomous wound procs.

If you're lucky, you've got a 60% chance to generate a combo point when you use a melee finisher like rupture. If you get one, get slice and dice rolling. That increases your attack speed by 40%. Not haste, just attack speed. Haste is actually tied into energy regeneration in Cataclysm. In patch 4.0.6 apparently slice and dice directly increases haste, so if that goes on to live servers from the PTR I will be a very happy player.

If you didn't get a ruthlessness proc, use a mutilate to get combo points and then get slice and dice up. Next start mutilating until you're at 4-5 combo points, then hit envenom. Envenom refreshes the full duration of slice and dice, so frequent envenoms should keep it running for the entire fight without actually having to use the ability itself again. After that, keep using mutilate to generate combo points, alternating between rupture and envenom as your finisher to try and keep rupture uptime close to 100%.

At 35% health another deep assassination talent kicks in, which is murderous intent. This drops the energy cost of backstab significantly, so it now replaces mutilate as the primary combo point builder. Assassination damage escalates towards the end of the fight because of this; this mechanic was added in Cataclysm, and because it's similar to a warrior mechanic called execution that also kicks in at 35%, 35-0% is usually referred to as the execution phase.

Shorthand, it looks like this (this part is done in 5-7 seconds):
Stealth > Garrote > Rupture > Ruth/Mut > SnD > Mut 4-5cps > Envenom > Etc.

... get why we kind of view RuneScape talk a little bit depreciatively on this thread? rolleyes.gif

It's not really hard, but there is a learning curve involved.

Oh yeah, the reason I was here. Has anyone else watched Paragon's world first hardmode Nefarian kill yet? The end made me chuckle (and holy feral crits Batman, saw a few +800K).

Yeah I saw Paragon's world first, in my opinion Method were the first to legitimately kill Nefarian first, seeing as they downed it after the hotfix.

Soloed Zombiefest for my Red Proto. Managed it with 3-4 seconds left on the timer.
It was nice to feel like I earned it, by solo'ing all the achievements I had left to do after Cataclysm hit.

Also 8-manned the world boss in Twilight Highlands, that was great fun. happy.gif

Hiya!

Blizzard retroactively took away everyone's Exalted title in 4.0.6 if they were below 50 exalted reputations.
That was a nice thing to see when I checked the forums this morning. dry.gif

Am I the only one who thinks 63.3 guild reputation per raid boss killed is ridiculous? You get more for that with a guild group killing a heroic boss assuming you're 5/5. Should be 125 reputation minimum.

The amount of guild reputation and guild experience gained from killing a raid boss has been dramatically increased, as the previous rate felt too low compared to the difficulty of progressing through raid content. This change will require a realm restart to take effect, which will be next Tuesday's weekly scheduled maintenance at the latest.

25m Al'akir is down, so we can finally start some serious undistracted hardmode attempts.

Going to take this back, it's more of an incredible improvement on the WoW rogue model.

Wish Rift was cheaper so I could do dual-subscriptions.

Also, 350 stacks of pyrite ore stored away for a rainy day. And all the guild JCs are stockpiling tokens, we're already over 120 collectively just counting four of us. Should be able to basically own the AH for a week unless... you know... every other guild has had the same idea. huh.gif

Hit the 100K gold mark for the first time yesterday (would've been sooner, except I bought up 500 stacks of pyrite to sit on until epic gems are released). Wasn't that bad, considering I've spent close to 400K on stuff since Cataclysm came out in December. Looking for good ways to invest at this point, The Undermine Journal and The Consortium are great places to keep tabs on, wish I'd found them sooner.

Gold cap is like 1 million per character, right?

Cap is one million, yeah. Make sure to use a snatch list for TUJ, it's the easiest way to make money by doing nothing.

Yeah, I have to take a look at that. I'm mucking around a little with rarer patterns and older epics I see on the auction house, but I don't think there's a big market on my server for novelty items at all, so I don't want to go over 5K or so without seeing some sort of payout first (I'm going to sit on Elemental Attuned Blade though, from what I understand that's unobtainable now after the quest changes in Silithus).

I really just need to work out what alts I want to level and what professions I want to have on them at the end, though. I'd be really cool to pick up a few of these older (and in some cases now completely unobtainable) crafting recipes, but I don't want to learn them on a character that I'll be swapping professions around on either. Blah. tongue.gif

I bought a Formula: Enchant Shield - Lesser Block a couple weeks ago for 4,000 gold and sold it just recently for 19,000.

Alchemy is one of the best professions to have, IMO. The transmute life > air every day is a good source of gold. If you can get into the potion market, the quantity you can sell is huge even if it's at a small profit. Engineering pets cost around 10-50g to make and sell for 200-400 on my realm.

Also milling Cinderbloom and Stormvine gets me on average, an Inferno Ink for 20 gold (the cost of a stack). So I can make a DMC for ~300g in mats. Mysterious Fortune Cards cost me around 3g to make and sell for 10, and surprisingly tons of people buy them (I'm not sure why, but I sell over 1000 a week).

For 525s, I have:

Priest: Alchemy/Enchanting.
Rogue: Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting.
Warrior: Herbalism/Mining.

Want to level:

Hunter: Skinning/Leatherworking.
Mage: Inscription/Tailoring.
Druid: Herbalism/Mining.

Finally should look like:

Druid: Herbalism/Mining (farmer).
Hunter: Skinning/Leatherworking.
Mage: Enchanting/Tailoring.
Priest: Alchemy/Inscription.
Rogue: Engineering/Jewelcrafting.
Warrior: Alchemy/Blacksmithing.

It's a work in progress.

Also, 3/13 hardmodes (25s)! Atramedes down, Maloriak next to go.
