In looking through the event recaps forum, its not looking good.
I, for one, actually look through the recaps and try to find out what happened in events.
However this is made hard with [Finished] + [Recap] topics, 50% of which are not complete + have no real recap in them.

Here's what I propose:
1. Separate recap topics for each event.
2. [Finished] topics not to exist.

First Suggestion

With topics in the forum, sometimes the recap is in the [Finished] event, or the recap is written into the sign up topic, which has been moved.
This is so annoying to look at.
I don't want to be scrolling down all the sign up lists just to look for people's opinions on the event.

For each event, there should be a recap topic, with a quote of what the actual event was at the bottom.
I find this works effectively to refresh people's mind of the event (if they didn't attend).

An example would be.

QUOTE (An example of a teamspeak suggestion night)
Attendance:
(Insert attendance picture here).

We had a lot of fresh ideas from newer members today.
Such ideas included:

  • Idea #1
  • Idea #2
  • Idea #3
  • Idea #4

I'd like to thank xxx member for bringing about the suggestion of this.
I think we all feel that xxx suggestion would be effective in place in wg.
Also the issue of anti-sniping to protect our hybrids came up.
In xxx war, if you attended you will have seen our hybrids getting hit pretty hard.
So possible raid leaders could look at this issue ...etc

Thanks to all that attended + I hope to see you next week!

What do I do?
Bring your suggestions + yourselves!
A mic is always useful.

Second Suggestion

Very simple really.
We don't need [Finished] + [Recap].
2 recap topics for the 1 event is pointless.
They can be done in 1 topic as explained above.
For war sign ups, if the warlords need the sign up list, then it would be quite easy to move the whole sign up topic to lvl 3/4.

Edit: Recap topics tend to get worse when we lose a war too.
Who cares if we lose?
Tell us what we did wrong.
Tell us what we can improve on.
Sometimes I come on of a morning + see a half done recap, which doesn't tell me anything, and I can only gathered we lost.
Please put some effort in, we do read them !

Thoughts/ideas?

I try and do that, but i generally move them to finished when they've been in the events section for over a week with no recap, it makes the event forum/war forum look very messy if they have been there and thats of main importance so members know what events are going on rather than what has finished.

I can see your point and i do try to write a bit about my recaps but sometimes only the attendance is needed if no1 has sent you any picture. I'm thinking about going back to using swiftkit so i can take more pictures as i generally don't take them as its a pain in the middle of a war.

Your suggestions are good and people do try and do this, but i think keeping the event forum clean is better than keeping the recap forum clean.

I do all my recaps in the format you suggested above so yah ohmy.gif

We also need people to take more pictures at events.... people refuse and then we have nothing for the wg.com photo albums.

I totally agree with you.

One point you've mentioned and I'd like to emphasize is what happens when we lose a war... sometimes the original topic just gets moved to 'recaps' and nobody bothers to write a summary of why we lost and how it would be possible for us to improve next time. That happens sometimes.

I have always liked the idea of separate recap topics and used them previously. I agree with you, I hate scrolling to see sign-ups when I went peoples views on the event.

Totally agree with you. I remember this being suggested before as well.

I really hate having to go to page 5 of whatever of the original topic, sifting through all the previous posts to get to the first one about the actual event. I want to know how it went, what I missed and if it's something I might enjoy doing myself.

I mean we kind of have half of this suggestion implemented. We generally get an even topic, moved to the recap forum and "changed" into a recap topic. The original post becomes quoted and put at the bottom with the recap at the top, but there is still the problem of having the useless information that was there when the event was announced.

I would LOVE to see this put into play.

I view topics using the most active topics, and it does get annoying when I see [FINISHED]

I hate how they are just moved to begin with :V

It's annoying to try and look for people's triumphs and responses when you have to scroll through over 9000 "I'll be/not be there"
Totally agree

Few months back I think I remembered the recaps being little bit more detailed. Win or lose in a war as well. It would be good to have these recaps be more in depth in what happened. Especially if its a war, its nice to reference things we did well and things we need to work on. I'll try to take more screenshots and post them as well.
