The idea of an IRC Operator has been suggested many times by members over the past few months.
The essential idea is that an IRC Operator would be Operator in #WG to invite people into the channel or set up a key if RobbieBot happened to go offline.

We have noticed that at the moment there are no operators in the IRC in the Aussie Timezone (apart from His_Lordship, who due to real-life commitments cannot always be in the IRC).

So the proposition is:

Make Theevildead2 an IRC Operator, op ONLY in #WG.
He is experienced with IRC, as well as being ex-council, ex-moderator and an ex-skills leader, among other things.
We all know that he would not abuse his power... except maybe on me angryhahs.gif.png .
However most importantly- he is from New Zealand, from the Aussie Timezone.

IMPORTANT: His forum access will not change, he will remain as Elite Guardian and have no staff access, no access to Level three, etc.

Please vote carefully.
Theevildead2 cannot vote for himself.

I totally support this. He's best suited for the job because he knows the system.

He's in the timezone with the least amount of staff (just me and Gene at the moment).

What he said. But seriously, yes. He has the experience and the trust (I Hope) and we all know he would do well if we've been here long enough. JC would make an excellent non-staff op. Only problem is it might confuse newer people who assume he is council, but thats not a big deal.

No because you could just give Invite exception to current staff members - half ops and i am sure we have enough people to cover all time zones so there is no need for this. I could also give all the other half's the simple bot which invites voiced people so is this really necessary and its not like JC can cover every single time zone and its not like Robbiebot is died every other day or something.

I would bother to put why, but Andrew has summed it up.

Colonel is half op and a aussie i belive? just put him as a Op? Makes no sense to give access to others when it's not really needed. wink.gif

I voted yes. However, even with JC having op, I think that our current staff could step up to be op when no one else is on or if they are afk. What is the big deal with this. I think our staff has proven many times their great service to us. Besides you know if anyone abuses the power it is like grade school and we tattle on you. hehe

I would say no on this matter.
Don't take me the wrong way, I like Evil a lot. He is experienced at what he does, and he does fit the timezone, but regardless of all of that, if you do not hold a position of influence onto the clan, such as Event Leader, Raid Leader or Council, then you should not have OP in the IRC channel.

If it is really a technical problem, then I believe an alternate solution would be better. As previous people on this topic have stated, halfops & so on could be substituted instead.

The matter of bias is also at hand, unless of course you make a separate rank for Evil, questions will start to arise about why only one of the Elite Guardians is an IRC Operator.

I'm flattered, really I am, but the fact is I just don't know the IRC well enough. If something did happen, and I had to fix it, or at least provide an alternate method of getting in #WG I wouldn't know what to do.

I am more than willing to learn.

But remember, I'm still in support of this. I mean, I am the other ranked Aussie person in the IRC and I have no problem with it at all.

He's perfect for it. Yes it seems a bit biased, but think about how he's already got the experience with it - not many people do. He's also in a timezone where there really aren't many OPs or HOPs in there.

If anything, we should at least test it out. If it really doesn't seem necessary after a week or two, take it away from him. If it actually is doing something beneficial, let him keep it.

DZ was promoted directly to Raid Leader.
It wasn't thought of as bias because we all knew he could do the job.
It's the same situation here.

I vote yes. If it doesn't work out we can always change back. JC is a great guy and probably well qualified to handle this.

No, I <3 JC I really do.

JC wasn't why I voted no.

We have what? 10 terts + Admin? How about whenver someone leaves they op a tert, with our numbers that we have in terts+ there should ALWAYS be someone with IRC power on. And how would opping JC solve the problem? What if he isn't on? Ive been on before when almost no one was on and neither was JC. This would not solve anything. Promoting someone to solve a problem is pointless, Buraeuacracies don't work and are disorganized. The elected admin just need to be as active as they tell us to be.(sorry if that sounded like a bait it really wasn't im just angry)

Or I could just get Bindbot hosted 24/7.
Problem solved.
Note to all: I did not vote on this as access on an irc channel means nothing to any one in real life.

I voted no also.
Dont get me wrong, I love JC like a brother. But I dont see why none of the halfops cannot step up. There is normally someone there. I dont think that someone who doesnt hold a major position in the clan, should be given op. Robbiebot rarely goes down. And when he does, people can wait. Its not that hard. Im sure they can talk more in the lobby.

My 2 cents.

Just like how Andrew and Slayer said, there are halfops available so don't make a unnecessary change. And it isn't only the aussie timezone, when i get home from school, there really is no council on for like 2 hours. George you are, but you end up dc'ing and never coming back. Bto comes, but goes afk cause he's so busy?!# And then we have to wait for Glenn, which might change because his school is over now.

I'm saying its not just the aussie timezone, theres a lot of times where there arent ops and we have to rely of Sooth to give somebody op to invite people when robbie goes down.
