First of all, I am not quitting because I am unhappy with WG, or because I want to join another clan. I am quitting for personal reasons which I am not going to fully explain, suffice to say that sometimes in order to grow there are certain things that need to be shed. I am not requesting emeritus as I am quitting both WG and RS, and as an emeritus I would be too tempted to attend important WG events or spend time browsing the forums.

Ill do a few shout outs (in alphabetical order), although it is quite sad that in my inactivity I have not really taken the time to build or nurture many friendships here. I realize I am not exactly an easy person to make friends with, so to those who have tried to make the effort to know me better or befriend me, I truly thank you even if your efforts were not reciprocated by me.

Abs: I sincerely think you were one of the best leaders WG has ever had. You held this clan together and showed that WG could survive even without Eugene. I really wish I had gotten to know you better though, I think you have a very good head on your shoulders.

Back To Own: It is a pleasure to raid with you. I really think you are a much better leader than Ken ever was and that WG will become a strong p2p force so long as you continue to lead it there. I just hope people do not drive you away with all the azn jokes.

Daren (Valdremia): Although you have been very inactive recently, you are still the best friend I have here. Although I will truly miss reading your posts and PMs, I really hope we can still stay in touch.

Darkzero101: Along with BTO, I know you are an amazing leader and can really take this clan places in p2p wild.

David (1colonel1): I voted for you. Although you would make a good leader here, do not spend too much your energy here as I think you have a lot of potential in real life.

Eugene – Remember when we used to play ULTIMA? Those were the days tongue.gif You have really changed over the years, and honestly I am not sure it has been for the best. I still believe you are a good person at heart, but I think sometimes you forget that trust is inherently valuable and not just valuable because it can be used by you. I had hoped to see how far and how high you could take this clan, but I do have other priorities that I consider far more important. Anyways, I think I have said this before, but you should be very proud of the clan and community you have created.

Arsenalfan32: I thought you made a great leader. I know you took the council job seriously, but yet I think you realized the importance of having fun.

Gorge/Darth: I do not know either of you that well, but it seems you are both doing a very good job in your leadership positions. From seeing many council come and go, perhaps the best advice I can give you (and others looking to be council) is that there is only so much you can do to make this clan better.

JC (Theevildead2): Although you are not council (I voted for you) I think you more than anyone can give the best advice and oversight to keep this clan on the right track.

Mangomaniac2: Haven’t seen you around in a while, nonetheless I always thought you had a very good attitude.

Mike (Tnuac): This come off as stalkerish, but I think I would enjoy meeting you in real life. I have always enjoyed reading your posts, and I think we see eye to eye on a lot of things.

Quikdrawjoe: Although you somehow you managed to de-rank yourself (how did that happen anyways?), this clan is lucky to have a member as dedicated as you. Also you seem to be the first to spot bullshit when it happens.

Rachellove9: I do not know you well at all, but you seem like a great person who helps make the Wg community special.

Whizzy110: Glad you decided to rejoin WG, I think you will help make this community more interesting. I thought you made a good raid leader, and I hope you pursue that direction again.

Lastly, a very small bit of advice, do not do what I believe I have been doing for a while now: do not use WG and RS as a security blanket. If you have a talent try to use it in real life; do not confine it here just because this is your comfort area.

I wish all of you and this clan the best,

Karlfischer

Good Advice. Thanks for all the wisdom you brought to WG. I'm sure in month down the road you will come be a guest on the forum and let us know what you're up to.

I know what my direction in life is, but I know how difficult at times it is to find the right paths to take me there. Good Luck in Real life.

Damn Karl...just damn.

I'm really, really going to miss your thought out and insightful posts that aren't just a pleasure to read due to their depth and eloquence, but also because they're always spot on and very clear. Regardless of the topic, when you have something to say, damn it you say it well.

I know that whatever it is you hope to achieve, you'll do it because you're the kind of guy that has a good head on his shoulders. You know what you need to do to get something done, and you do it and do it well.

WG needs members like you, but just like you said, in order to grow we need to shed certain things.

I thank you greatly for you kind words. I hold the things you say in very high regard, and I hope others do the same.

Too bad we couldn't have one more deep wilderness raid where we stop and mine some runite, headbutting the rocks to help you out - good times.

If you ever want to talk, or just keep in touch my e-mail is [email protected] just let me know it's you and I'll make sure to respond ASAP.

You'll definitely be missed Karl, without a shadow of a doubt, you will be missed.

And...very moving picture. Very symbolic. Very sad.

Wow. One of the mainstays of WG is leaving.

Karl, you've been a model member, active, mature, responsible and helpful, a pillar of a person.

I can't ask you to stay, as much as I want to it would be unfair to you.

Similarly, I would not ask you to divulge your reasons for leaving, I'm sure they are personal. However, if you need it, I would suggest talking to someone in the clan about it.

In my time around WG you've always been one of the few members that would not get caught up in all the drama, you never flamed, were always civil and polite, even when disagreeing with someone, were quick to lend a hand amongst many other great qualities that will take you far in life. As long as you don't let anyone walk all over you.

I honestly wish I'd gotten to know you better, I really do, unfortunately timezones and circumstance got in the way, which really sounds like a pathetic excuse, perhaps we should have made more effort to know each other, we've been in this clan a long while.

All I can do now is wish you good luck with real life, I know it will be long and fruitful for you, and ask you to at least drop in once in a while, I'm sure I as well as many others will want to know how you're doing.

Also, that photograph is depressing.

Good luck Karl.

Wow, Karl...

In my 4-5 years of Wg, there has never been one member that truly had the respect that I had for you.
We joined at similar times and you've just always been there,

Always there with a helping hand or a mature response.
In huge flame battles, you'd always be the one to cease the fire, calm everything down with the "Karl Talk"

I gotta say, Although us two never really spoke, you've always been the one I looked up to.
Everytime I saw your name on the forums and realised that you were still a member, It gave me a huge sense of relief that Wg still had such dedicated members

ByeBye Karl smile.gif It was a pleasure knowing you and I hope you are able to come back in a few years time to say hi neko2.gif

That is one moving ending pic neko2.gif

It's a real shame to see you leaving Karl, though we've talked fairly infrequently I have always respected you and the input you give WG as well as the incredibly detailed posts you make smile.gif

I hope we can keep in touch, and I wish you the best of luck in whatever direction you decide to take. I am sure you will be a huge success.

I have probably read nearly a thousand goodbye posts in my time.
This is, without a doubt, the saddest goodbye I've ever read.
Not because of what was said.
Because of who said it.

You mean more to me than you'll ever understand.
In troubled times for WG, your posts broke though thick clouds of darkness.
Whenever I had apprehensions, your encouragement gave me strength.
When I felt the temptation to reduce myself to the level of a child, you helped me see reason.
To the complicated issues, you gave the simplest wisdom.
And all these merits came from just your posts.

You joined WG in a dark time.
I had just lost half the clan to The Revolution.
January 2005. Three nights in a row I couldn't sleep properly.
A week later you came in, and I remember you were part of the clean-up.
We rebuilt from the ground up, and you stood by it all.

Through D-Day and other disasters and mass leavings, your resolution remained strong. Your loyalty never thinned out. Where other members who claimed loyalty left, you stayed. You above all other members, are my most trusted advisor. And, in your wisdom, you never ran for council. I did invite you several times and each time you were happy where you were. For a few months I got to know you through Ultima, on a personal level, and it remains my single greatest regret that right now, I don't know you better.

And what I have just said... is somehow diminished. Every time I type a sentence honouring your legacy, it feels as though something gets lost in the words and I couldn't do you justice no matter what I type.

Words are currently failing me.

Karl, I haven't cried in years. Truth be told I am not crying now either.
But I'm very close.

I see your name, and memories come flooding back to me.
  • You were a Rune Village mod and you had known WG for a long time. You joined WG after much thought, and I remember feeling so happy about it.
  • Playing Ultima with you. You quickly surpassed me and even rescued me from a dungeon.
  • Seeing you in your party hat and WG T-Shirt
  • Making your signature for the clan rotating signature.
  • Hearing your surprise when I spoke to you on Teamspeak regarding clan security
  • You making a leaving post (regarding a central WG issue) and taking it down a few minutes later.
  • The many, many conversations you and I shared with Rick Hamm

I don't want to go on. Every warm memory I draw out seems to get tarnished by the knowledge it is coming to an end.

I've never met you, but you have shaped who I have become. Four years I've known you... almost. I beg two things of you Karl.

I am not one to stand in the way of your great wisdom and your real life situation. But I beg you to take the time to give this a second thought. Emeritus.

Secondly, I beg to know why you are leaving. It is apparent you wish not to discuss it, but I implore you to share it with me. I am suspended in disbelief and confused.

To think in a week's time you'll be gone, and with you, a small part of myself.

I won't continue. My words are diminishing my feelings.
I haven't felt this way about losing any single member of WG.
You mean more than you can possibly imagine.

I didn't expect this Karl.
You're one of the longest standing and most dedicated members WG has ever seen.
Every time I see a topic by an old-schooler it upsets me greatly.
You've been there through the good and the bad times alongside the best community in any runescape clan period. It's sad to be seeing you go even though we were never close friends.

The true remaining legends of WG can now almost be counted on one hand.

Wow karl, although part of me saw this coming, it is still a shock to see it in words. Words themselves cannot do you justice, you've been an amazing person to have in the clan, probably the wisest and most mature in my history of WG. Its been said before me, but your insight has been invaluable on many occasions. It really is a unique skill of yours, to see light through the darkness and cut right to the point. I'm sure it will prove a valuable skill for the future too.

It is probably a good idea to cut from WG and RS altogether, the temptations are always there (as I have found). I am very glad I have the means to contact you, and I'm sure to try to make more of an effort along the way. Meeting you would be an honour! Although currently very untravelled, I am hoping to get a lot more swiftfooted in the future, and you'll have to let me know where you end up!

For now, most likely my last post to you on these WG forums, best of luck in the future pal, seize it best you can.

It is really sad to see you go. I really wish I had gotten a better chance to know you.

Now that I think about it, you have always been a member that has constantly been there throughout my time in WG here, always there to lend a helping hand or advice. I really wish you'd take emeritus, but I can understand completely. Its just terrible to see someone who has always been there to help and offer advice finally go.

Thank you for everything Karl. Theres just some things that words cannot say, but I hope you understand.

Karl sad to see you go.
I remember when I first joined, you were so active and topdog. I was scared to actually mistalk to you when i was lv 80. Man time flys.

I wish you wouldn't leave completely for, you've been in this clan through thick and thin. You've gone a long way, in WG and in life.

I wish you the best of luck in life, we'll always be here if you ever need anything.

The response is a bit overwhelming…it is really moving beyond words.

I would like to thank you all individually, however that would sound too much like a laundry list. Ill respond to some individual posts, but even if I do not respond to you, I still thank you greatly for your encouraging comments and good wishes for the future.

HA! I remember that very well, I think a picture of that is still up in the gallery. Very good times those were. Thanks for the email David, let’s try to stay in touch!

Not always. I flame baited Rick Hamm quite abit, but that was only because I had already given him far too many chances and seen him abuse far too many people.
Thanks for the kind words Owen.

In my 4-5 years of Wg, there has never been one member that truly had the respect that I had for you.

That means a lot Tezza, thank you. I wish we had maintained our friendship better, but we both have become fairly inactive in our later years in WG.

I hope you rl issues will sort out soon and maybe you would hang your WG t-shirt off the branch and wear it again.

Maybe I will wear it again when I am old and in a nursing home and have nothing better to do than spend the rest of my days playing RS.
[free testimonial] I of course will wear the WG t-shirt in rl, as it is actually a very high quality and surprisingly fashionable shirt.[/free testimonial]

Thank you Eugene, you have said quite a lot, and it all strikes a chord. Likewise, you and the clan you created have shaped who I have become, and for that I am very grateful. Joining this clan was one of the best decisions I ever made and for almost 4 and a half years now (almost to the date) it has been home to me.

I am sorry, but I cannot honour either request.

I need a clean break. Emeritus will not do. The best I can do is to be the kind of ex-member that this clan deserves: my sig will say “proud to have been a Guardian” instead of “ex-member unit.” However, I would like my 3 days to think upon the matter.

I have two main reasons for quitting WG, but one I feel is just too personal to share. The other has to do with some things I have realized about myself. First of all, I am not as mature as I believed myself to be. Maybe because everyone here tells me I am mature I have started to believe my high level of maturity to be a fact when it is not. I certainly have the ability to write like a mature person would, but my ability to appear like a mature person has far outstripped my actual level of maturity.

I guess in short, I have an emotional dependency on WG. It is a place where I am respected, where people listen to what I have to say, a comfortable place to escape daily worries, and where I can go to get my ego stroked. Perhaps I have been a loyal member mainly because I crave being highly respected and am afraid I will never find that same level of respect in real life? Perhaps WG is a way for me to hedge my bets, so that even if I am not worth two shits in real life, atleast I can retreat to an online community where I feel valued?

I do not mean to insult the respect that you all have for me, it really does matter to me a great deal, however so long as I remain here I feel I cannot fully move ahead in life. Of course I may be mistaken. It may be that I can move ahead in life and stay in WG at the same time, however my second and more personal reason is alone enough for me to quit.

I am very glad I have the means to contact you, and I'm sure to try to make more of an effort along the way. Meeting you would be an honour! Although currently very untravelled, I am hoping to get a lot more swiftfooted in the future, and you'll have to let me know where you end up!

Thanks Mike, I hope we keep in touch! Likewise, it would be an honour to meet you in real life, athough to be realistic that is very unlikely. Regardless, I’ll let you know if someday I chance to be anywhere near the UK.

I remember when I first joined, you were so active and topdog. I was scared to actually mistalk to you when i was lv 80. Man time flys.

You are quite right about time. Lol, yeah, I remember when I thought I was pretty topdog because I had 100 combat. Now I am a paltry 120 combat sad.gif

That reminds me, if anyone inquires about my account I will be very upset. I am not selling it or giving it away.

Maybe the picture was a bit too much (I did not mean to depress anyone), however considering how that picture describes how I feel leaving WG much better than a thousand words could, I think it saves everyone a lot of time.

Karl, it would be totally awesome if you took another picture of that shirt but from further away... it would capture desolation and loneliness, and thus look more powerful.

Haha, I'm just giving you my opinion. It is a haunting picture which I have been staring at for five minutes.
