Ever since the last graphic update, I keep getting messages that "my virtual memory is too low" right before my browser crashes. Last night it happened on the dwarf battlefield (txtawkin, may she rest in peace).

Do any of you have any suggestions for me to solve my problem? This is a desktop that is about 5 yrs old. My laptop works fine with hd and fullscreen, but being wireless, I can't use it in risky places. : (

Pentium® 4 CPU
2.80GHZ
2.79GHz 504 MB of RAM
Windows XP
happens with both google crome and explorer

I have 3/4 of my disk space free.

Upgrading your ram would be a very good idea, 504Mb of ram isn't very much at all and it is incredibly cheap to upgrade these days (I sold 2*1Gb sticks of ram recently for 45NZD/25USD) and its one of the easiest bits in a computer to change out (though you may want a friend to help you out with it if you're not sure).

I *think* that error is a result of your page file getting filled, but I can't recall how to change that on Xp, nor whether it's a good idea to increase it (I have page file disabled).

Here is a quick explanation of what I'm talking about Here

Hope that helps, my advice would definitely be to get at least 1gb of ram if not more smile.gif

theevildead2 is right. the fact that you're low on ram and i'm guessing due to the P4 architecture. you're jumping hurdles that you can't handle, thus causing the system to crash instead of burn.

virtual memory is bad. it utilizes ur hd space to act as ram for long term or background usage.

get a ram upgrade for 20 bucks. biglaugh.gif

How much did you loose on your character :[? Doing a memory clean-up cleans up 50 gb for me.

One, yea, get at least 512 megs more, and if you can afford it, an extra gig on top of that will do you well.

Even so, you should increase your virtual ram - Unless you have a huge amount of ram, Windows likes to use virtual memory to stick extra crap in. It may be lots slower than regular ram, but you don't run into "no memory, crashing" problems if you have some.

To add virtual ram:
right-click my computer, properties.
Click the advanced tab.
Under Performance, click Settings.
On the "performance options" window that comes up, click the advanced tab.
Under Virtual memory, click Change. select C:, custom sized, and set the initial size to 2048, the max size to 4096. That should be plenty.
You will have to restart for it to take affect.

If you continue to get errors, use the Task Manger to see whats using so much ram(processes tab). You may have a program with a memory leak, and should upgrade or downgrade that program. Firefox at one time was notorious for this, though my version, 3.5.4. I haven't had any problems with.
