Has anybody ever noticed how unclear teamspeak is?
There are times when I can hardly understand what people are saying.

They usually are:
- When somebody talks loudly
- Two people try to talk at once
- If somebody has a shitty microphone.

If any of you have ever tried ventrillo, you'll know its much much clearer than teamspeak. I'd put up with teamspeak, but there are times when I can't understand what people are saying in raids + wars. Now this is bad. No wonder we're so disorganised. If I can't understand half of the piles, I'm guessing a few other people can't as well.

During a war, previously when I've been using vent, I've had no trouble in finding piles. But with teamspeak, it honestly takes my brain a good 2 seconds to process what the pile was, simply because half the time, I can't understand it properly.

Robbie, I know you link teamspeak to the forums with the login names + whatnot, and that's truly a great job. Not sure if you can do the same with a vent server, but I don't know your limitations.

Anyway, discuss.

The 100 slot Vent server I had with RR was £12 a month.

Two issues. First off, I'm not convinced that its Teamspeak causing this issue. Listen. That is a recording of myself, over TS, with our current settings. You can't tell me that that isn't perfectly understandable.

However I do admit that almost everyone I talk to in TS is much more garbled, and this can be a problem. In fact, up until today, I sounded about as bad. Today, I messed around with some settings to get TS to work in Linux, and I managed to make my mic sound 10X better.
What did I do? I adjusted some mixer settings. The mixer is the bit of software which takes in audio from your mic, adjust the volume, then gives it to TS. Whats happening is that your mic volume is so "loud" that its hitting the upper volume limit, and getting majority distorted. It should be an easy fix - simply adjusting your sound levels a bit, but I haven't had enough time to figure out a proper set of instructions.

If we can get this to work, great. If not, then perhaps we can swich. But if we do, its going to be a lot of work, and going to take a while. And thats assuming we can do it - I heard something about having to pay if you want more than 8 slots, but the only thing I can find on the website is having to pay for a minimum of 1000 slots. If those are both true... well, we can't own a 1000 slot server, not at $0.14 a slot.

I'm happy with TS. Maybe Vent might have better sound quality but we've stuck with TS this long, I don't think it's worth the hassle to change the forums around and manage finances and get everyone to switch over just for that.

Skype doesn't work in the same way TS/Vent do. I prefer TS because it's more user friendly. I would also suggest waiting to see what Robbie comes up with in regard to TS first.

Well, while I applaud you for doing research on this, thats actually a lot of money. We currently pay around 19BP - thats $31 - per month for the entire server. If you want to go ahead with this, you are going to have to find someone to pay for it - Its enough trouble scraping together enough money for what we have now.

On my end, I need a couple of volunteers who are on at the same time as I am, who I will walk through various changes and hope to get stuff working better. That means, someone on around the time of this post.

I would prefer staying ts myself. Hopefully Robbie gets a guide for us to use what we have better. I have an expensive mic and I know sometimes it gives me a bit of trouble too.

Vent is way better than Teamspeak, and this comes from years of experience using both..

And lets be realistic, WG does NOT need 100 slots. 50 at best, until we expand a little more.

Bit late, but im going to support this. I've been using vent for wow lately, and the difference was REALLY noticable on ts. Its just bad when you have multiple people calling on ts. Vents quality is MUCH better, and trust me the communication will be MUCH better too when multiple people are leading.

What? TS is MORE user friendly than Vent? What crack are you smoking? If admins on vent know what they're doing, there's much more flexibility to play and users can adjust settings for individual users so those people who are always too loud or quiet can be fixed.

Two problems with vent: More $$, Recoding is required
