PLEASE let's go back.

This. TS3 is great, Mumble is such a pain to get sorted and used to... I'd rather we all stick with what we're good with.

Right. Well, you were all complaining about TS2. Maby TS3 is different, but we have a good solution now. Yes, you have to download a program and go through a configuration wizard... but thats a good thing. The output quality is pretty good.
I'm going to give it a month, at least. At the end of that, I'm going to let people who have used Mumble during a few raids to provide input on whether it should be kept or not.

Also, just because we could do the whole forum-login thing on TS2, doesn't mean its easy or even possible on TS3. Heck, I dunno even how I would go about it - its not been out long enough for guides and "help, I'm stuck" posts!

Conversely, I know its possible with Mumble. I know its also possible to provide a complex channel/server permission scheme with relative ease - I'm going to see about making it so that we can auto-mute certain ranks during events, or automatically kick any non-clan people during a war, etc... Yet let them in(certain channels) when we aren't doing events.

Give it a try. I have, and I've been impressed with it both client and server side(installation of the server was a breeze, as well as getting it to auto-start when the server restarts).

I completely agree with Robbie. He has been working hard getting both the forums and mumble to work for us. It's unfair asking him to change things again. I'd say we give mumble a chance - one month like Robbie said. We shouldn't be afraid of trying new software.

But Robbie it means we can never again have kareokes.
You've just scuppered all hopes of our annual xmas/new year kareoke which I've already told all the allies about...we can't expect people to dl mumble.... But everyone has TS.

Also we don't need that forum, ts/mumble connection, it just makes things awkward don't you agree? I mean it means we can't have any allies or public on our TS and whilst its more secure.... it's worthless.

Regardless of liking TS3 from what I have used so far, I think it is only fair that we test out Mumble. I know I will.

If you really want to use TS right now, then go get yourself a server?

I have to agree with George on the point that TS is so much more convenient for Our friends and allies. I don't know of any other clan thta uses Mumble, and I wouldnt expect people to download a new program *just* because we use it.

Then again, Teamspeak 3 is also going to be a hassle while different clans are upgrading or not upgrading.

i do like mumble, its alot clearer then TS2 and all that, though only problem like others haven pointed out, is that like no-one else has it. Public or allied events will become a hassle as noone will want to DL a new program just for one thing

If we're worried about making things inconvenient for allies and friends, why not just do what we've been doing the past week or so, use their TS. Then theres no inconvenience right?

Um... why not? Even with TS, all you had to do was give out the server password to all alies and guests. WG members simply didn't need the password, and were auto-registered.

As far as Mumble goes, it has a whole load of access permission-stuff that can be easily messed with. I haven't had time to go through it, but it looks like we could easily have a number of ranks, and based on the rank only certain channels would be open. For example, everyone could be in the main room, yet only WG members could be in a special raid channel. And, you might have a channel that was invite-only to guests...

Aside from the issue of getting people to try it, it should work out great.

Then again, Teamspeak 3 is also going to be a hassle while different clans are upgrading or not upgrading.

Which is indeed a large issue. If we can get people thinking in terms of trying Mumble when they already have to get a new client(which won't "feel" quite the same and therefor some will be bothered by it), we might be able to get other clans running Mumble -instead-.

A major selling point is that any host can give away or sell slots for whatever they want - No minimum slot fees/slot counts due to TeamSpeak's company taking a cut.
So, technically, we or any other clan could make a little money by selling a few slots. Which is kind of unrealistic - as you all said, who has mumble? - but it -is- a selling point. And, if you can get the ball rolling, it will just take off.

-Robbie

Robbie the main problem is the inconvenience of allied events our allies do not want to go through the hassle of downloading and getting an program for a 1 off event which happened recently when we had an allied raid with The Sabres we had there leader in there Vent and our TS so that we could all hear the piles called. Our allies would be reluctant to want to get mumble just for the odd event with us it is much easier and convenient to use the same program as they do this way it makes it easier for when we have allied events and not worrying about having to use mumble for our events then getting TS to work for allied events.

Using our allies TS could work i guess. Its just means we all need to have both programs with them working and the knowledge to use them just seems like a hassle and people do not like change.

If Teamspeak 3 is just a newer and better version of TS2 with basically the same stuff (easiness, etc.) I say we use it.

Comes from a guy who advocated Vent.

Definitely give Mumble a try.

Downloaded Mumble even more complicated than vent imo. Couldn't get on for the war.
