Yea, so my computer got fucked. Every minute or so theres another alert that a virus is put on my computer, and every....30mins or so some porn site gets poped up onto my screen.

Should i totally reformat my computer. Can they get any of my passwords, or cc info if I haven't used any of it since this has happened?

Its totally locked me out of pretty much everything. Soooo um....I still have safemode to work with, but is that enough? How do I reformat or w/e the computer and yea. Any help would be awesome.

/topic

Normally I just format my pc completely when I get infected. I never experienced that a anti-virus can remove totally.

Tried a system restore?

The Avast! reboot scan is pretty epic; if neither of those work I'm out of ideas.

System Restore is probably disabled I'm guessing and it's usually of no use anyways.

If you can, get a hold of a linux livecd/usb and you should be either be able to recover any files that you need to keep. Then just wipe the drive and start again.

My advice is to make a data partition and an OS partition. That way your data is pretty much always separate from the OS.

I also strongly advice you to install linux to a partition especially if you get viruses often. It's just such a big safety net in case windows screws up.

System Restore should be your last option in the event of viruses. In terms of Antivirus, pretty much all the best ones you have to buy. If you want to invest, I reccomend Kaspersky, but otherwise Avast and AVG are usually basic protection.

I think the separate partitions idea is a good idea, although haven't done it myself so I don't know.

If you can find the virus then getting rid of it won't be too much trouble, I would make sure there is absolutely no hope of fixing it before starting over because it would save having to reinstall everything.

For the future, I would recommend something like Acronis, or some other realtime backup tool, which just backs up your PC every 10 minutes (only changes not the whole thing) so you can restore it from pretty any point you have a log from, in the same way as system restore but with data files too. Also you might want to invest in Comodo, it's a free Firewall but it also prevents programs from changing things around on your computer (some people find it too invasive but you get used to it) and it can help you spot problems when they appear.
