This is our personal recap topic, for which I will divulge a few thoughts, and post attendance.
I will do it in as few words as possible, but that is incredibly difficult.

How The Tides Turned
A record for future generations on how to set up the perfect war.

What happened today was an inexplicable rape. It proved beyond any doubt that we are still incredibly organized after so many months being out-of-practice. I could not have foreseen this. The whole time, I was trying to be strong for WG but on the inside I was very nervous. Not in my wildest dreams would that victory have been so easy

I guess I shouldn't start at the victory. Let's go back to the very beginning...

We were in a 6 month losing streak and half of WG had never tasted victory under WG's banner. Many times had I tried to break us free from it but I either did not have the time, or the right idea. Our closest attempt was the Great War, and so I tried to replicate its magnitude one more time. I decided to call it "The Battle of Turning Tides".

The most difficult part of this process was finding a clan that would participate in a P2P PVP non-returning fight on Sunday. Those were my four criteria, and the task of having every single one met was near impossible. I almost sealed a deal with the Blacknights, but they insisted on Friday. This, I could not permit. I had to decline.

In fact, I kept a list of declined declarations. I asked 20 clans exactly before asking DB. 18 said no, 2 never got back to me. DB was the only opponent who would accept, and they were stronger and larger than us at the time (one average level and 3 members). I consulted Darth, who told me they were an excellent clan. And they p2p fight regularly, so I was very scared, but as with TBC, it was either fight them or have no fight at all. We took it, and set up some very straight-forward terms of war.

For my raid leaders and warlord, WG has only ever won two or three PKRI's. Our strength has always been non-returning fights, and I knew this had to be the case for DB. They twisted my arm to get a PKRI but I stood firm. This was key to victory.

The entire following week was intense. I had to balance my job and social life immaculately in order to have JUST enough time to work on this war. Sending out "tickets" to the war in PM, making the banner, the war prep vid, thinking up a fool-proof plan, chasing people for sign-ups, training... it was a week I couldn't replicate all too often. Perhaps every few months.

I have a name to uphold. When His Lordship makes a war the members buzz, but I was doubting myself this whole time. It was partly because of me that we maintained a losing streak in the first place. Most of the members had never walked under my leadership in battle for years, and many doubted whether I was good enough a warlord to pull off victory, since few had seen me do it. I was so full of doubt this week. To rub it all in, Zemus told me he heard a DB member say in their IRC that they considered us to be shit.

The war prep movie took about 15 hours to make, but I knew I had to do it. It's not just the information... it's the morale boost. Old schoolers know that the wars with prep movies are the ones we tend to win. I've made about 7 or 8 war prep movies, starting from the historic DOA war, and we've only ever lost two wars that had a prep movie: X vs DS, and The Great War, both of which were highly stacked against us anyway. This war prep movie would "seal the victory" so to speak. Well, it was released about 8 hours before the war... hardly enough time for everyone to even watch it. But boy was it worth it, yes?

I was logged out deep in the wilderness already, with a fighter torso on, stupidly. I forgot to take it off and as a result I had +6 mage defense. I would have been assfucked if they piled me. On Keanu's donated account, I arrived at Juliet's house at a quarter past 3 in the morning. Juliet's house is historic to WG. We first massed there for the DOA war, and the tradition continues to this day, where we mass there for only the most critical, defining wars... on server 56 every time. Those stairs we marched down were the very same stairs that a different generation of WG had marched down for the DOA war and a small handful of wars following.

When we got to the monastery, it was as if my bowels collapsed, so I quickly ran off while everyone charged their prayer. BTO took over here and organised a transition mage team. I walked us up through the wilderness. It was a very inefficient way to get up there: Logically we should have massed at the mage bank or BH, but the walk was important for us to get into the mental zone. Up at rune rocks, I failed to defeat a Level 7 imp, and bolted over to the moss giants, to everyone's amusement but my own. With 61 life points, I had us log immediately to world 72.

Speaking in IRC with Connor, DB were waiting for us. I asked if WG could attack, and he said yes - You never defend a location in p2p. It's the quickest way to death. I deliberately decided on the attack/defending scenario with him at the last minute. At that stage we were 10 minutes late and he just wanted to get started so he agreed with my request in order to get the fight going, and let his guard down.

The combination of rushing in on a noob and using a charging spam worked to perfection. It took them a long time to get a click on us. Because we mass clicked them, they were all too busy checking their health to effectly pile us back - We used offense as the best defense. Their opening was weak due to intimidation and their inability to attack the leading account, and they took down Markenzie1 first, but we'd already killed about 3 of them. BTO started making the calls as I logged out, leaving the war entirely in his hands.

I logged into His Lordship, and when I saw I was risking 1.5m I shat bricks, since I'm not that rich anyway. Well, a war is a war, and I charged in after we had been fighting for about 45 seconds. There really was nothing for me to do except follow BTO's leadership, and to assist in locating piles.

What can I say here, w kept up the spamming the whole time, our transitions were made without needing to fall in, not a single DB member tanked us or dragged us, and the war was over in probably 4 minutes.

We had done it.
The losing streak was officially over.

Our Future

Please don't think I'm going to say all the cheesy stuff.
"We have a bright future ahead..." "Let's start a winning streak..."

As you know, this victory was HARD earned. We had to put things aside for it. A lot of energy was spent. Something like this can only happen two or three times a year. We had the Great War and now the Battle of Turning Tides. We *might* have one left in us for 2010... LATE 2010.

What we achieved today was an incredible show of organisation that ended a losing streak and proved our potential. The REAL challenge for us is to maintain victories throughout the next few months in situations where we cannot afford the energy to hype it up, in situations where there won't be emeritus members to support us, and where people can't put off their plans.

Because we elevated our performance this one time, we all know that we cannot do this every time. We need to get accustomed to victories with only 25-30 people attending until our memberlist expands. Anyway, I don't think everyone would want to go through this week after week.

The magic of WG is that you can do something once, and remember it forever. You bring it out every now and then to remind yourself, but you don't overdo it and get sick of it.

What you just experienced today was not a glimmer, but a raging wildfire of hope, that exceeded all expectation. Fires that big burn out quickly, which is why we can't do that every week, but don't be disheartened, for even the most humble of fights, if won, can bring great satisfaction.

Guardians, we are the shield of the innocent.

I can not explain the happy feelings I still have even now almost an entire day passing. I am extremely happy that we had our victory. Your plan was executed in a good way.

Thank you Gene. The flash vid was amazing. Thanks to all the raid leaders as well. Justin and Zemus thanks for helping me on a personal level. Thanks to Saad too. It's with a thankful heart I can say so many of you have helped me.

Epic war was epic. One for the history books, without a doubt.
Thanks for everything Gene, for all the hard work that you and everyone else put in with the prep vid, sigs, banners etc.

Now it's time to focus on the Jagex Cup and destroy other clans in that! biggrin.gif

yeah.. at skilling angryhahs.gif.png

OT: Was a very good war, we were dropping piles left and right, our magers were freezing and transitioning efficiently and very few of us died.
Everyone gave it their 100% especially you Gene, and to Bto for epic leading.
All we need now is for someone to go to Bto's house while hes sleeping and steal his wow discs, then WG for #1 p2p hash.png

Gene, with every word that I read, I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of dedication to this clan that you have. All I know is that your passion and love for this clan is immense. You are a true leader, more than anyone I've ever seen or know.

This was a brilliant way to pull everyone together and show the rest of those naysayers that The Wilderness Guardians aren't pushovers, or a fellowship that can easily be forgotten. We are, and we will always remain a family. You did fantastic, Gene, with everything; I thank you for being such a remarkable leader -- and I commend you on a job well done.

The Wilderness Guardians have seen a great many wars, but only a few of them stand out as purely epic and unforgettable. 'The Battle of Turning Tides' will stand out as one of our most greatest and memorable wars. From this generation onward, and for every Wilderness Guardian that has ever been just that. We are the shield of the innocent.

This was my first war with WG and I know I can't expect the same from all of our wars, but before the battle itself even began, as we were walking up, I realized how proud I was to call this clan my home and how happy I was that I chose to join. This war really reminded me of why I used to love to war years ago, and of why I've kind of hated it since my original clan closed down. That sense of unity and clan pride doesn't really seem to exist out there anymore, and I was kind of amazed at it yesterday when I saw it. At that point I didn't even think we were going to win if I'm being honest...and I'm glad we won, but I still would have been just as happy with WG if we hadn't. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of it all.

I have to say I have personally marched under the WG banner many times since the very first war we had. This felt like old times, with new fresh faces.
The one face that didn't change was you Gene, your drive in getting this done is amazing. I was on irc the day you went to those clans and they declined.
I am very happy I could be a part of this turning in our history, for those who doubt, doubt no longer. We are WG and we are nothing if not survivors.
I was once asked why I chose to follow you, and I really couldn't put it into words except for this, "If you had ever hear Lordy give a speech and listened to his voice you would follow him to the ends of the earth."

I remember once I told you that you were our guiding rudder in WG, without you we have no star to sail by.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for us, and for me personally you have held my heart in your keeping for a long time.
You are the best.

I'm pretty shocked as well.

When we charged in, I got a loading screen which lasted 4-5 seconds, and I started thinking, "Am I dead yet?". Then it finished loading, and our spam of "UNLEASH THE GUARDIAN POWER@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@" suddenly EXPLODED onto the screen infront of me. And I was playing in fullscreen.

After about a minute into the war, I realised that I wasn't getting piled. There were few to no DB spams at all. I took one look at the minimap and saw about 3/5ths of purple dots. And at that point, I knew we had won.

The war is a blur to me. One minute we were walking over from mossies to the war zone, and the next we were running from the Chaos ele trying to get a fall-in. I didn't expect it to be that easy.

Like we have raids and our Megaraids, I say we should entitle our wars like the Great War and the Battle of Turning Tides our "Megawars". I'd also add the WG vs RO vs KoD, WG vs DoA and X vs DS to that category.
