When you approach someone through game, forum, or irc to recruit try to appeal to their tastes. Don't simply say Wilderness Guardians is a great clan check us out, tell them why that is. Interact with them a fair bit to get a feel for their personality. Find out what they like and tell them about how we are good in that aspect and how much fun it is.
For example say a potential recruit likes not only pking but also varied events. Recommend things that they will most likely enjoy in the clan. You can tell them about our upcoming events and let them see for themselves. If they like pking invite them to a raid, or if a boss hunting go make a team with them with our clan members. Even just chill out and fish with them a bit and talk on TS. It doesn't even have to be interaction on Runescape, anything. Be creative.
The most important thing is getting them to interact with the clan. Get them on IRC, our cc in game, our TS and our message boards. Once they are in the habbit of interacting with our cool friendly members they are more likely to want to join and stay.
Also don't underestimate recruiting friends as well as it is easier when they know someone. One member alone can pool in an army. Yes you Rob
