Council Nominations

The Council position that we are having applications for will require those that are considering applying some deep thought. It is a serious commitment to not be taken lightly. You must be able to work well with the staff and keep an open mind to other's ideas. This opening is for General Council and you must host events, along with all the other work that needs done. It will be helpful if you are also able to be a fall-in leader if ever needed.

QUOTE: Abmanju)
The Council is striving for more moderating type Council and a Council that looks for member feedback and so on. A Council that will never ignore a pm on IRC or on Forums. Someone that will always have the time to listen to anyone with a problem or query. Someone who is ALWAYS kind in what they speak. Someone that is never racist and has self-control. This person will also be doing a lot of forum work as well as IRC work. This person's communication with the clan is vital. Timezone is also very important for this person, they have to be most of the time at which most of the clan is on. Along with all this, they have to be Event active, they have to go to Events, we need a Council out there to support the clan in every event, it'll certainly be inspiring.

So in summary we are looking for:

  • A Good-Outlook Manager - Someone who can help people find their full potential. Lead in a way to keep anger in check and restrain them from breaking our rules. Listening to the members not only about RS but whatever they might need. Keep a positive look on things even on days of disappointment. Encouraging others during times of low morale. Seeking out what is best for the clan over your own agenda or desires. Keeping your integrity when dealing with friends or those that don't like you. You have to settle disputes and do the appropriate punishment on a case by case basis.

  • Previous experience of ACP/Mod CP/IRC Commands would be helpful, but not necessary.

  • Someone who has a Microphone for Teamspeak and enjoys talking openly. Socializing with clan mates on a regular basis. Always remembering that every member is equal and you are not above anyone.

  • Someone who would be open to constructive and abusive criticism. Must be able to cope under extreme stress and pressure. Dealing with multiple problems and projects all at once while being told you need to do more by the clan.

  • Someone who is not afraid to spend many hours a day doing behind-the-scenes forum admin. This is very important. If this scares you, then you shouldn't be applying. Your own rune-scape time will be in jeopardy. You will find you have much less time to actually play RS.

  • Someone who would ALWAYS reply to EVERY PM or other means of communication from members/guests alike. This is extremely important to the success of the clan. Communication is key to running the clan smoothly. Keeping good communication between all leaders as well. You will be at staff, council and clan meetings.

The importance of the Council Rank:

QUOTE: Abmanju)
This rank, the Council rank, I can't stress how much **** it put through many Council members. Ask anyone who has been Council, they'll explain. You might think "Yeah, I'm prepared for this" - Heck, So did I, but I really had no clue what I was really in store for me. You might bug a Council member to do Apps or do something at a time, and go 'Oh If I was Council, I'd do that' but you will really have no idea unless you have been Council before. This rank has broken many many people. Lifespan of Council is usually, approximately, rather, 6 months I'd say. It's hard to last long in a job you're not getting payed for. You'll be able to realise 'Why am I doing this? What is the purpose' - Then you answer that question yourself 'Because I love this clan, I love my friends here, I want to make them happy' - THAT is your payment, THAT is what motivates you in Council.

Council Rank is the ultimate test, if you don't do well at it, you will be criticised by the clan whether you like it or not, you will have to be able to withstand that criticism and act positively to it. Council Members make mistakes, Primary Leaders make mistakes, but they are ordinary human beings just like yourself, they will learn from mistakes. But many people don't understand the concept, which is exactly why the pressure mounts & mounts on a Council Member.

Now it seems right to quote Eugene, from an Election Topic he made on the Z6 Forums in 2007:
QUOTE: His_Lordship)
You are about to apply for something dangerous
This clan has been through many council members.
We have never had a stable council.
If you join the council it is very likely you will quit WG soon after.

The council members are placed under EXTREME stress.
You just can't believe how much...

Anyway, you don't know what it's like to be in the council.
Some of you think it is the ultimate glory.
This glory will fade after a few weeks and you will suffer.
Others are in it because they want to change WG.
Then they suffer as well because the stress grows too heavy.

You may look at the council and say not much is being done for WG.
But it is hard for council members to do anything.
We are labouring and we need plenty of breaks.
Sure you may say nothing is being done.
It's REALLY that bad. We just have to keep our workload small.
Otherwise WG gets too stressful.
This is one of the reasons many council members leave.
They don't realise how stressful it gets.

IF YOU WANT THIS JOB, YOU REALLY HAVE TO HAVE A DEEP URGE FOR IT.
So please, before you apply, think VERY HARD.
There is a reason council members are temporary.
When you are in the council, it isn't a lot of fun.
People start questioning what's the point of playing RS if it's not fun.
To be a long lasting member, think of Dorcha3377.
She does it because she loves us. She loves what we're all about.
You need that. You have to draw your happiness from the happiness of WG.
Nothing can prepare you for it.
You may think you know how it's like, but you don't.
You can only understand once you are in the council.

So when you apply, realize that you may be about to suffer.

---------------------------------------------

If you are still certain that you are right for this job and if you have not been put off by the warning above, then you can apply as long as you meet the following criteria:

- Guardian+

Below is the Council Application Form

Please be aware however:
That this form is the basic form that you need to fill out. If you want to gain more votes, I suggest that your write a structured application, involving colour & underlining key points.
Also please try to get your point across clearly.
Please spend a good amount of time making the application form
QUOTE: Abmanju)
People who have applied for the rank previously and received it took a good 1-2 Hours writing their applications.

Application for Council:

1. Have you read and understood the warning? Please comment on why the warning is needed and of what relevance it is to you as an applicant.

The warning is there todo as it is so rightly named. To warn possible candidates of the problems and issues they will encounter whilst being a council member.

2. Why are you applying for the Council? (I'm expecting at the very least 100 words.)

I am applying, simply because I love WG. Why do you think I always end up back here. Because I love it. I love the atmosphere, the friends and most of all the experience. Ask anyone that leaves and trys to stay away. Even those that leave and troll us, why do you think they do it? Because they loved it here, and are trying to make themselves feel better about leaving.

I want to make WG the best it can possibly be. I know you will see this in every application that you will read. So why am I any different? Because I have experience. Im an Ex Raid Leader. I know my pking stuff. I know tactics and clans that we can seriously expect to beat and stuff like that.

I know my activity hasnt been the greatest. I understand this. But for all the major wars that have been on, since I rejoined......I have attended. I know me applying is gonna cause allllll sorrtts of issues. But meh, oh well. Third time lucky Eh?

3. What do you perceive to be your current role in WG and in what way do you believe that you have helped WG to prosper?

My current role, is Trial Guardian. I understand this. I know I havent done my graduation yet. But im on it. I saw this as an oportunity to help WG. And im grabbing it by the balls.

4. What qualities place you above other people applying for this position?

Experience, Age, im vocal "your not his lordship, brrrrrrrr - See soundboard"

5. What makes you think you can last for a long period in the Council? [Please really think about this and give us details.]

Im not going anywhere. Im settled. I have a house with the misses. I have a cat. Im not going to leave anyone in the lurch.

6. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a Leader?

I always speak my mind. Fuck me off, and I will tell you.

7. What does WG need most at the moment and what will your main priorities be as a Council Member?

Experience and help. Guiding people to better pkers and people. Tank.

8. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you inactive? Do you plan on serving as WG council for 6 months or longer?

May change my job, may not. Puts me innactive for 2 days tops.

9. Do you agree to provide the Council with two weeks notice if you wish to resign?

Of course.

10. Is there anything else you would like to say?

Good Luck Keanu.

Guys.

-The ending date for applications is Sunday 21th November 2010 - 5pm EST/10pm GMT.

That means you have until Sunday to work your applications over.

You want to take up a position with WG's council? Make your application look professional. Don't put ten minutes of work into the application for the position. The effort you put here will show through in the effort if you got the position. So I'm saying right now to both of you, and anyone that's about to apply in the next day or so.

USE THE WHOLE WEEK TO WRITE YOUR APPLICATION.

Keep it saved in Notepad, go over it with spell check, go over grammar and shit on it.

Not trying to bash you Supreme, but it looks like you put about 5 minutes of effort into your application.

I'm not having a go at you, I promise you that. I'm just giving you some constructive criticism. :|
I was council for a really long time, and I'm telling you from experience.

Don't half-ass this.

WHAT KYLE SAID.
I can use Kyle and myself as examples - we literally took the whole week to write it, and much of the week before, since we knew they were coming up.

Take a long time, think very carefully.
I know I say this every time, but it's because I speak from 16 months of being a Council member, and i can honestly say that if you go into this without thought you will end up depressed, possibly suicidal, and you will last for all of 2 months before you decide to step down.

WG deserves someone spectacular, to continue on from the spectacular council we've just lost and those we've had in the past.

Kyle knows what he's talking about, so there's no point me repeating it.

Good luck to all applicants.

Good luck to WG with trying to make the right choice, don't piss around voting for someone because you like them or some bullshit like that, because that's not what council elections are about. Make sure to actually read the applications (as some people already clearly haven't) and think about what they say in them and make up your mind.

Hope this isn't a popularity contest, but I'm willing to bet it will be.

I'm going to bide my time before I even think about going into Council again but here's what I CAN do. If anyone that is applying has any questions, comments, concerns or whatever, please feel free to get a hold of me so we can go through your application question by question to ensure you fully understand what you're getting in to and to make your application stand out above the rest. I have loads of experience in this field and am willing to share it with others.
