Need a new PC, and want something cheap, but will run RS and other medium games well?
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=21682188
It comes with a Tri-core 3.1ghz processor, 4GB of ram, a 1TB harddisk and a GTS 460 video card.
It will run Runescape at 1920x1080 with max settings, 4x AA and you will get around 50fps most places(less in the GE).
Other games should run nicely on medium to high settings.
And all for less than $600 including shipping.

Note that it'll be a bit more if you want a screen, but if you go with Linux for the OS(RS on Linux runs just as good as on Windows) you can save $100 to put towards that screen.

Well, that beats my price check of £1,200 for the same power.

The UK is pretty well known for having pretty high prices for PC gear, I wouldn't have thought that it would be as much as ~1200 pounds for an equivalent PC to that though.

I had a quick look at the Nz price of those components and it actually came out at a not too bad price, though personally I doubt you'd need anything near a 500w PSU so I would go for a lower wattage but higher quality supply (ie. a Corsair VX-450).

The GPU draws 106W alone. And besides, isn't it nice to know you have some room to expand your system or to have some buffer room between the peak power output of the supply what you actually need?

I wouldn't say 500W is overkill at all considering how power hungry desktop hardware is and how much power you would probably need to run your system at peak load.

Well, the real problem comes finding a lower-wattage powersupply that both A, is rated 80+, and B, has enough PCI-E connectors. Figuring that you could have at least a GTX 460 which needs 2x6 pin, that's the lowest one I could find.
Admittedly, I might choose a Corsair myself, but I didn't see one near the price of the one I chose.

I'd have gone Seasonic(who make their own, as well as for others), but they didn't seem to have PCI-E power connectors.

Also, remember that your PSU does best at 50-80% load - Figure your idle load should be around 50%, which gives you a significant margin for "under load" power.

Well, heck - it all depends on the budget; if you've got more, I can adjust the parts to match.
I figure that $600's about the -minimum- you'd want to spend on a new computer though; below that, you'd want something used.

What's the cheapest computer you could whip up so you can play average-maximum graphics (more or less leaning towards maximum) on games such as CoD/WoW? tongue.gif

Find a graphics card that meets your requirements, as well as a processor spec(speed + # of cores), and I'll see what I can do. Though, like I said, you'd probably want to spend -no less- than $600 on a new machine.

That rig will do fine, then. The GTS250 video card has a version that was branded specifically -for- WoW, so I assume performance is good.
