![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() IRC Nickname: DG_Keanu Group: Council Posts: 4782 Member No.: 2033 Joined: August 25, 2009 Total Events Attended: 173 ![]() ![]() ![]() | I started playing RuneScape in the summer of 2003. As far back as I can remember, the #1 clan has been Damage Incorporated. Second place was usually held by either RuneScape Dinasty, or Dark Slayers. From the third and onward, there have been a few variations. Violent Resolution was definitely a candidate for #3. But in 2006, behind DI and RSD, it was widely accepted that the Wilderness Guardians reigned third. The "glory days", as we call them. As we know, the clan world's first major change hit on December 10th of 2007 with the removal of the Wilderness, and the implication of Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars. The winds of change had swept in. And as we know, those winds are here again. So let's look back on the last three years. A widely-renowned belief is that with 10/12/07, the concept of Honour was lost in RuneScape. I wouldn't put the blame on the clan world for that. The changing of the skulls system nearly destroyed all that was left of the age-old concept of Anti-RPKing as we know. +1 worlds brought in the idea that it was "OK" to 1-item, gear standards lowered, dealing another blow. Over-powered weapons came into play and Dragon claw'ers and Korasi products became the kings. Teams made a rise, Welfarers, Mlp Maku, Anti-welf, Jaja and so on. Putting a bank in the middle of the wild closed-in the once-spread action into shallow. Hugging safe and single came about, as well as glitching and teleporting. And with all this going on, it's not too surprising that Reign of Terror became #1. Damage Incorporated made it to runner up in the Jagex Cup, losing only to The Titans - another superpower. DI closed not too long ago. So did Dark Slayers, Eternal Honour and many others. And even those clans could be considered honourable compared to what we have today. As His Lordship's dominoes began to fall, hacking, DDoSing, spying and more popularised. No-Honour in the old wilderness had once been an original concept, and I'd say the two clans that held the frontline were Reign of Terror and Noobs Incorporated (VR only really fell to the no-honour ways after Milap's departure). After two years, BH and PvP worlds were in place, and the grip around the clan world's throat began to loosen. But it didn't stop it's decline. The two contenders for #1 were RoT and Echo of Silence, with other superpowers like Divine Forces, VR and RSD following close behind. As it turns out, when you lose honour, you also lose the ability to accept defeat. Thus started the crashwars. Reign of Terror and Echo of Silence were at each other's throats, hailing support from the smaller superpowers like VR and DF, and even some of the middle-class. Clans and teams like Critical Damage, Phalanx, Brutality and Divine Kings flocked to a banner. And RoT dealt their damage. Banning EoS and VR from the wilderness entirely, Reign of Terror claimed victory of the crashwar and the #1 spot in the end. The middle-class stayed out, for the most part. Almost all of the superpowers got involved at one point. At the end, Corruption and RSD stood aside, and to be fair some argue that Corr joined in for a short time in the final days. But RSD stood down. As Mary Anne Radmacher once said, "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow." Where were WG? Well, we suffered harder in late 2007 than any other clan. But we rebuilt. 2008 saw two Real Life meetings and a WG T-shirt. We had averted our course, but stayed fairly strong in the clan world. Peaking at #3 on the RSC RAW list, we pulled reasonable numbers to fights and were still a force worth reckoning with. But in 2009, the clan began to slip into decline, as the desire to grow started to fade. We went into a losing streak for wars for SIX months. But in 2010, with a restrengthened alliance with The Sabres, WG stood up. The Great War and the Battle of Turning Tides - two prime examples. We went to RuneFest and kicked off our relationship with Jagex themselves. Twenty-six t-shirts and 200 WG Pens for the creators of RuneScape, and four times featuring on the homepage in a single year. Two more Real Life meetings. Two more flash movies. Old-school war revival. And while it didn't really help our growth in terms of numbers, it kept our heart beating. We had something to live for. And that brings us to today. The dawn of a new age. The 2007 wilderness is returning - of that I can assure you. And I won't go into depth about all the hype. I just want to give mention to one thing that is coming back out of all. Honour. In truth, we never really gave up on it. It is the concept that I am the most proud of to have return. What lies in store for the future of WG I can't say for sure. Maybe this is our time - to make a comeback. To reclaim that spot as a superpower of the clan world. Maybe #3 again. Maybe #1. Anything is possible. For three years we have been waiting for this dawn. Three years have we sat in the cold, damp darkness of the Bounty Hunter and PvP age. Listening to the veterans around us who would give anything to re-live the glory days. Waiting for the light to tear through the clouds which loomed over us for so long. Guardians, look about you. We are on the edge of a revolution. Already we can see that light. Our hope and our faith has been restored. We know this is not the end. Far from it. Savour this moment, cherish it, for it will be remembered forever in history. Now is the time to stand up and say with pride that we are the Wilderness Guardians - we are not dead, and we are not dying, and we certainly have not forgotten what we are fighting for. When the dawn comes, we march into the unknown. Wear your T-shirt, your cape, wield your sword your staff or your bow with pride. We decide our fate - not me, not His Lordship, US. Whatever happens, always be proud that you are a Wilderness Guardian. -------------------- ![]() [05:42] <+WG_Keanu> I think I got a semi just looking at the pic [05:42] <%kat> same

Fail historian. Anyway, that aside. Just because the things that brought no honour to the masses may be removed, doesn't mean to say that everything that's happened over the past few years will be erased. If we want to see the return of honour, we have the be the light in a darkened world. Which means rising to a position of influence. This is so true, What people forget is that a significant number of the 'NH' changes (such as hacking, more spying and DoS attacks) are not things that have come out as a result of the 2007 wilderness changes so really, just because they're looking at changing the wildy back to what it once was does not mean those forms of 'NH' will disappear. Yes 1 iteming will decrease (and maybe Smite & Soul Split might be a bit more useful) but overall I think the changes since the 2006-2007 period are not those that can be reversed and we really shouldn't ever expect it to. Rather than looking back and hoping it will change to how it was we should be looking at how we can adapt to cope with the changes.... -------------------- ![]() Old awards wat Most Mature & Most Honourable Most Dedicated|IRC Freak|Best Emeritus Placeholder lolz

I never ever went to the old wild. I didn't find it fun being a single then and now in clan changes it a bit. The best point I read is that last paragraph. It has to be "us" not just a few people to push WG forward. It takes the entire clan to really improve. Everyone training and going to as many events as they can. Then we will see real change. People need to overlook personal differences to improve the community as well. -------------------- ![]() Thank you Garrett and Dallar. “The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. Do we have that right now? I'm not so sure. I see a lot of divisions in timezone and cliques within the clan. Not all parts gel together in the way that we all desire the same thing with same value. We all prioritize different parts of game and as a whole we don't all drive ourselves to excel at pvp. I often wonder what that is that will do it. I can think of nothing and that is really concerning right now. It can't be PvP itself because a lot of people lack the experience. Maybe there needs to be a total reinvention of how everyone thinks of themselves as WG members. -------------------- ![]() ![]()

But the essential point was that we are due for a second wind. Let's not think that way. Every clan thinks that way. If we think like that... like it is coming to us, we won't try as hard. Instead, we should work even harder now. Vephy is right. WG needs to rethink itself. There are a few attitudes that need to change. -------------------- ![]()
