Open up the start menu. In the search window, type Run (if on windows xp, click on Run).

In the run menu type msconfig

Click on the startup tab of that window.

Disable everything from google to office to java to adobe reader. Do not disable windows operating system, antivirus, or important drivers (like sound software or nvidia).

Restart.

If something important failed to load (if you suddenly don't have sound, for instance) re-rerun msconfig and recheck the sound option (search for it by description and software name).

If you're running windows vista, upgrade to windows 7.

If you really want to speed it up, then maybe just format the drive and reinstall a fresh OS.

It will get rid of a bunch of crap that you tend to accumulate running a PC, also if you have Vista upgrade now.

I guess you even try and install Linux (Ubuntu/Kubuntu are the easiest to get going) and they tend to run slightly lighter on resources that Windows. However, they can be pain to get set up correctly (if you do make sure you install the video drivers since the open source ones are terrible and I would recommend the Sun JRE over the OpenJDK.) and a lot of Windows applications, obviously, won't work.

First of all what is your computers specs? ie. How much ram processor and graphics card are all you need atm. Also what is your operating system?

The main ways to upgrade your computers speed are ram and processor,
Try run a defrag, and a disk/registry cleanup that always speeds your computer up.
Delete all your browser cookies if your running runescape in browser mode lots of cookies = slower explorer.

There are many ways to fix your computer without deleting everything. So get back to me with those specs so I can help you further.

Do you actually know what Front Side Bus is? because that's a damn strange thing to say since most up to date processors don't even have a FSB....

The real answer to the question is exactly what Wizard is doing, looking at buying another PC (look in the gaming forum for that thread) so these suggestions probably don't matter too much now.
