While I'm cleaning out my computer I found it and though I might as well post it here for general reading. If someone could move to the Gallery it would be appreciated - Guests can't make topics there (I've been complaining about that since 2009) The Guthix PK By WG Amethyst There was once a strong and fruitful alliance between the Red Blade Hunters and the Unknown Bounty Hunters. To anyone who knew the clans, this would seem odd. RBH and UBH were, looking back, polar opposites. UBH were the stronger clan – with the levels and numbers to back themselves up, but yet diverse otherwise. RBH were a small, but close-knit community. I would often joke about the alliance existing simply because of the one-letter difference in their initials. Sadly, in February of 2007 the clans broke apart into a hostile state, the bloodshed and flames burning for months without reconciliation. But that’s another story. I was Kecooler, around level 80 combat, and in RBH at the time. Despite having been in a few small-time clans before them, I considered RBH to be my first clan, and my home. Joining in late October of 2006, I instantly fell into the community. While I was certainly not the strongest or most experienced member, I felt I was valued. My videos of our events became renowned, and I hosted one or two of my own as well. I was happy with RBH. Of course, we were a PvP clan for the main part. Our weekly trips pulled between five and fifteen people, maybe even reaching twenty on a good day. I, being a level 80ish, did not have the bank to support losing multiple Rune sets a week, so my gear rarely turned out to be a full Rune set. As did many other RBH. There was a point where my finances got so bad I turned up to a PK wielding nothing but a Rune scimitar. Not even food. But it was a different sort of mentality in RBH. We had no gear requirements, no standards or expectations to meet. People were encouraged just to come, with anything they had, and if they did they were respected for it. We did not PK for drops or to fight other clans, we simply did it for the fun and enjoyment. And that’s how everyone liked it. Still, it did not help us in warfare. On our PK on January the 14th of 2007, we chased a high level into the Eastern ruins, only to get cornered in by The Mighty Red Dragons. I was in some combination of monk robes and green dragonhide, with a Rune 2-hander, and an inventory of lobsters. And being closest to the exit, I was one of TMRD’s first piles. I had barely time to get my Protect Item prayer on to save the 2-hander before I was instantly KOed, without even eating a single food. A week later, on the 20th, my hopes were not high for anything special. My gear had improved – I had a Rune platebody and medium helmet to accompany the 2-hander, but legs of dragonhide and I was still on lobsters. RBH had around ten people that night, and we had gotten two or three mediocre kills. I was filming as per usual, and while enjoying myself to an extent, I simply could not wait for the allied PK with UBH later that night. Back in the old Wilderness, RBH would head up to the Rune Rocks, and then focus our PKing between there across to the Eastern ruins, but during worlds we would camp the Demonic Ruins for quite a while. And when there was very little action going on, it became fairly tedious. On one particular world, we had a death dot at the Greaters, and I decided to scout around for a bit in my boredom. I headed west, towards the battle plains. I noticed white dots at the East tree, and found myself face to face with a level 106 called Grey Fox Gp, and a 113 called Cluckadoodad. Both of them were in full Rune. I stood there for a moment, not saying anything. I was outleveled, outgeared and outnumbered. I stood no chance. To this day, I remember clearly that Grey attacked me. He initiated the fight, and Cluck followed. We stood fighting for a moment. At the time, I didn’t realize that a Rune 2-hander was the KO weapon of choice of the day, nor that an Amulet of Strength had the highest strength bonus in the game. So it came as a surprise to me that I was dealing a fair bit of damage to someone almost thirty levels higher than me. King11040, a RBH member, PMed me that RBH were about to leave. I told him “Wait, 1 second, 106, Get ready.” LuckyMage14 PMed me to run back to Greaters, and so I did. Grey followed, still attacking. RBH charged out west just as the ruins came into view. King immediately called a pile on the 106. We were all-styles, with a nice combination of meleers, rangers and mages, so we hit hard. Cluck ran in at this point and began attacking one of our mages, but we all stayed focused on Grey. At this point I remembered I was filming, so turned Hypercam on. He didn’t even put his prayers on. After the first bind hit, he managed to walk only six or seven squares towards the gap, when the second bind hit. We KOed him there. 16, 10, 5 and 15 were the final hits. As he fell, I stated simply “Yeaaaaaaaah my lure!” I was proud we had gotten a good kill. I looked around trying to get a click on Cluck (I was fairly confused with his name), before I realized I had gotten Grey’s drop. I looked at the pile of loot on the ground, and noticed the Rune looked a bit odd. I had an inventory space free already, so just left-clicked it. What appeared in my inventory was a Guthix Platebody. Time seemed to slow down. I had never gotten what could be considered a real PK before. At the time I didn’t feel shocked or excited, but simply numb – overwhelmed with what had just happened. I ate a lobster and clicked again. A Rune platebody joined the Guthix. Eat, click. Eat, click. Guthix platelegs, Rune platelegs. RBH were fighting Cluck just northwest of me. Guthix kiteshield, Rune kiteshield. I was spamming the chat with “Oh my god!” and “Panic!” Guthix full helm, Rune full helm. RBH were half the minimap away, they had Cluck bound and still fighting just out of my sight. Rune Scimitar, Amulet of Power. I clicked the ground and saw a one-dose Strength potion and a mass of swordfish. My inventory was half-filled with loot. I price-checked it later on, the total value came to around 1.4 million coins. The best PK I ever had. I headed southwest to where RBH were still fighting, just north of the gap. Apparently, Cluck had his auto-retaliate on, and was not doing too well at getting away. I didn’t even bother to attack him. I simply ran over and started spamming “My full Rune kill!!! Swordies on ground back there!!!” misspelling everything at the speed I was typing. I deliberately did not mention the Guthix. As close as I was to RBH, I felt insecure with sharing I had so much loot on me with the clan. This was before the days of TeamSpeak and the Clan Chat, so we only talked in-game and through PMs. I had taken a few swordfish myself, but left the rest for the clan. We headed out to bank, and I took one screenshot on the way out. I ended up taking the Rune legs, kite and scimitar for myself to complete my own Rune set, and gave the helmet and plate to other RBH members. I started luring more that night, and we gradually got more and more kills. RBH only found out about the PK after I finished the video – I had included it in a compilation. They weren’t too mad about me being secretive about it. I knew right from the start I had to keep the Guthix set. It was special. I knew I would remember January 20th of 2007 forever. Just eight days after I would leave RBH and venture out into the clan world. I can only remember three instances in which I took the Guthix set back into the wild. One was on a duo PKing trip with Ads322, a former co-leader of my clans the Dragon Hunters and Moratorium, and a real-life friend. The second was on October 26th of 2007, on the final PKing trip of the Cutthroat Syndicate – a clan I consider to be the greatest clan of all time. The final time was on a PK with RBH on the 2-year anniversary of me joining, held on October 29th 2008. I had left the clan at Greaters to chase a kill almost to the single strip. Only seconds later, a massive clan rushed me, their name I never bothered to look up. I was bound, and knew I had no chance of running to single, just two minimaps away. I stood there eating my food, knowing it would be the last time I would wear the Guthix set. As my last item of food disappeared, I made a split-second decision to turn on my Protect Item prayer (This was before +1 worlds were introduced). I lost the Guthix set, but I kept the platebody. Sometime in 2009, I hosted a self-deathmatch, Kecooler versus my new main WG_Keanu. I deliberately risked the Guthix plate on Kecooler, and WG_Keanu successfully got it in the drop, despite the new PvP system. I have taken it to a few CWA wars with WG, but never truly risked it since then. It remains in my bank today, and is my most valued possession. Long before that though, I rejoined RBH on January 1st of 2008. It was my third run with them, after a year of other clans like Avenged, UBH and cXs. I always had wondered about the historical side of the Guthix set. Why Grey chose to risk it on what seemed like a duo PK, even though he had a full Rune set as well. I decided to find out. Grey had quit RuneScape, but after a long time of searching, I managed to find a MSN address, and we spoke for the first time on April 19th 2008. It’s not every day you get contacted by a random person who PKed you a year and a half ago for 1.4 mil. We discussed it, and I learned that he had picked up the set at a war with his clan earlier that day. I knew it was not unheard of for members to risk God sets in the old wild for wars. Grey had heard there was an ambush coming so logged out, and returned a few hours later. He asked his friend Cluck to escort him down from the deep wilderness, but then I turned up, and the rest was history. It’s been four years. And as I sat, writing this story in the early hours of December 26th, did it all suddenly make sense to me. I’m WG’s historian, and though I’ve written up a few accounts of my RuneScape career over time, it never occurred to me to think of how I became a historian for the Wilderness Guardians. I never liked history before, so what happened that brought about my sudden interest? Then I realized – it was my desire for knowledge with the Guthix PK that defined me. The sheer depth of the research I did on Grey reflects in the research I’ve done for WG today. How odd it all seems. That Grey logged into the exact world at the exact time I decided to scout around. How I had the perfect combination to deal enough damage to get the drop. How I, a poor level 80 with few prospects in the clan world got a Guthix set – Guthix, the God of balance. And how WG’s deity just so happens to be Guthix as well. Is it all just a huge coincidence? Sitting at home, typing up this story for our Campfire Stories event at the Anniversary, it makes me think. About how my talent for history had been born, and how I took interest in WG’s out of all, because it was simply so amazing and impressive… it was like something out of a book. A story, in fact. We all have our own stories, really. And it’s us who write them. We live today what become the stories of tomorrow, and they can be as great as we want them to be. I’m proud of mine, and when you write yours, write it so that when you look back tomorrow, you can be proud of the fact that you were there to live it. -------------------- ![]() [05:42] <+WG_Keanu> I think I got a semi just looking at the pic [05:42] <%kat> same | ||
