We don't get freedom of speech.
Power hungry mods keep editing posts and such.
I've seen it happen to other people too.

How about you just stop it you mods?
I'm sick of it, I've literally had enough of those people who can edit posts.
Like its getting to a point where its members vs mods in wg.
Just let us have our say.

Just because we don't agree with your view, doesn't mean you have to edit out our posts or delete them.

I can have a go at a fellow member, for posting something I don't agree with.
Doesn't mean you mods have to edit it out.
I actually thought the only things that should be edited out are those things which attract warn lvls.
I have yet to receive a warn lvl in wg, but yet have had my posts edited out countless times.

If you're going to edit so much....
Why don't you tell us what to post then?
Like literally give us a transcript of what we 'should' post.

I totally agree with you Maths. Though it hasn't really happened to myself many times, I do see it happening often. hash.png

Can't personally say I've seen this happening. I personally only edit out someone's post if I'm asked to do so by the author of the post, or if the post is a definate flame bait/flame directed towards a fellow member. neko2.gif

Imo this should be in PM to the editor in question & in a security forum rather than rants, but I suppose this fits the description of the forum neko2.gif

EDIT: Unless they're the slideshow of me doing naughty things hash.png THAT I get angry about :@

I agree Maths, but you must know that most of the time posts are edited because they may be offensive, inapropriate, or extremely negative. More slack should be given, but not too much.

Cutting back on it a bit would be a good thing, but at the same time they are doing their jobs. I'd prefer more of a responsibility system: if a moderator edits or deletes a post they have to document the original post and send a PM to someone higher up (council, or select forum moderators chosen in advance). They take a look and if the action is "approved" they forward the PM (with a note) to the person who originally made the post.

1. This means moderators are being moderated.
2. Everyone is accountable; their names and actions are documented and reasoning presented.
3. If they don't think the edit/deletion is worth their time then they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Rather than PMs this could be done on a moderator-specific forum page as well, with a new thread for each issue marked in the title: [Pending] and [Validated]. For large-scale issues a single thread could cover several posts made within the original thread being cleaned up. Example:

QUOTE
So-and-So PM'd me about this topic:
QUOTE
Blah Blah Blah ... This thread sucks ... Blah Blah Blah
I edited/deleted the post (or replaced it with such-and-such) and it needs validating.
Then it gets validated, and a PM is sent to the poster. It won't take nearly as much time as it sounds tbh. This is pretty much how things work on a fansite forum I've been a moderator of for like a year now and it works really well. And just to be polite, if you move or hide a thread PLEASE let the person who made it know. I had this happen to me on our boards about a year ago and it really pissed me off after I spent like three hours writing a very expressive post just to have it disappear. angryhahs.gif.png

I'm not sure about this method, but I hope council looks at it.

TBH I've seen posts locked that had no flaming in them and only expressed how people felt. When alot of people seem to be expressing negatively about a WG member, leaders could do a 24 hour lock like I saw Abs do. Then maybe talk to the person that is upsetting everyone. Uncover what is happening and try to help the person involved. Sometimes getting to the core of the problem is better than simply covering it up.

Freedom of Speech is a great right to us in the United States. People fight wars over this very type of issue. Mods are doing what they see to be a good thing. We have a large range of ages and backgrounds within the clan. What one of us might laugh at, someone else will be offended.

Sounds like another way of dumping a boatload of work onto an already very depleated council. In my opinion it's not an idea that should be carried forwards. Instead, the focus of the improvements should be on the moderators themselves. The moderators must from this post take away the knowledge that editing member's posts when they are not deserved of being edited is wrong. Obviously different mods take different things as being offensive, so obviously there will never be a 'set' action to take for someone's post. Instead, every case is taken differently and appropriate action is taken.

I cant say this has really been happening. We'll edit posts if needed if its some sort of heavy flame towards another member that can cause trouble.

How long ago? Long enough for a newer generation of tertiaries to be in 'office'? tongue.gif If so, then it worked the first time, and so will work the second time,.

Tbh i agree with BTO, I haven't seen this happening unless the member who's post is being edited is simply posting what they're posting to go out and hurt another member.

I just want to add that I got told to stop debating an issue that one of the staff disagreed with about in IRC. He didn't like my opinion so yesterday the few of us talking about the issue basicly got told to shut up. When we didn't drop the issue but were calmly stating our opinions, it was apparent that he believed that he couldn't trust us to make good decisions. I said yet another thing he didn't like and was threatened with a warn lvl that could not be appealed.

So be careful with what your opinions are in IRC, some staff will not think twice about giving you a warn lvl that can't be appealed as it was told to me. I still disagree with the opinion and actions that were done.

We only have as much freedom of speech as we are allowed. If your seen as someone with an opposing opinion you may become a target.
