I'm in this class right now, and I have NO IDEA wtf to do. I'm generally pretty good at math but this stuff is... Wierd. I'll post later when I start tonights HW because I'll need help lol.

Here's the topics I'm working on now anyway, just in case you guys have heard about this stuff. I'll put problems in later.

1.1 - Mathematical Induction

Use MI to show that 5 and 7 dollar bills(don't ask) can pay any whole amount greater than $26.
Use MI to show that 3 divides (10^n) - 1 for all positive integer n.
Show that 2^n is less than or equal to 2^(n+1) - 2^(n-1) - 1 for all positive integer n.
Show that the set {1, 2, ..., n} has 2^n subsets.

1.2 - Euclidean Division

Explain why every integer can be represented as 3k, 3k+1, or 2k+2, for some integer k.
Show that the sum of any two even numbers is even.
Show that the square of any two even numbers is even.
Show that the cube of any odd number is odd.
Show that n^2 + n^3 is even for any integer n.
If n^2 is even, what can be said about n? Justify your answer.

I haven't done any of this either, but it sounds interesting. Might end up looking some stuff up and see if I can figure it out later.

I only don't get it(I hope) cuz my teacher has bad english. He's like "turn this 2 into a 4 and divide by 2 to get 2 squared" and I'm like WTF?

I had something similar happen when I took macroeconomics two years ago, the professor had a really distinctive Indian accent that took everyone like a month to get used to. rolleyes.gif

That's not as bad as having a Chem Lab teacher with a very heavy chinese accent. Yeah, we can't understand the chick who's letting us play with dangerous chemicals.

meh, I'm having a tough enough time with "ordinary differential equations".

let me tell you, there is nothing ordinary about these equations or problems.

Did them last year in advanced calc, don't ask how I tested into a class so high up because I don't know. Now I'm doing freaking theorems and proofs and I don't know what to do!!!

BTW The problems I had trouble on were ones I wasn't supposed to do anyway. Oops!

You should have done software engineering. Engineering math is generally more advanced BUT there is the benefit of not having to memorise all sorts of rediculous proofs or be able to derive crazy equations from them.

That's the kind of stuff I love, the stuff that MAKES SENSE and is actually challenging, rather than complete bullcrap that no one can understand or use. The stuff I'm doing now is actually pretty easy once you figure it out, it's just putting the information into a theorem/formula and solving it out with factoring and such until it turns back into the original formula, and then you've prooved it. It's just that no one will ever use it, BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY BEEN PROOVED.

^ I guess I lied.

First exam results:

EVERY SINGLE PERSON FAILED.

He's letting us take the exam again, open book.

Kid in the class went to main campus and showed our material to the head math teachers and even THEY had no idea what this teacher was talking about. This sucks lol.
