I then saw it again, today, so I am writing this post today. Anyway, rat out your neighbor/friend/enemy for money. Yea. I despise this kind of thing. It may be the 'right thing' to do, but you DO NOT rat out people for money. That is just low class. Now, I don't think I have to tell you all this, but if I find that someone here has ratted someone else out to an organization like this, he or she is in *BIG* trouble, and I will do what I can to get the guy or girl banned from as many places as I can. Note that I will first make absolutely sure that this person has actually done it, and it isn't someone else being attempting to trick me. That's the first part. On to message privacy. I have run into several instances where someone has posted in a public forum or in a public IRC channel a log or some comments of stuff that happened in a private conversation or PM. I want you all to know that this is unacceptable. If you say something to someone else in a private conversation, it is supposed to be kept private(Unless all parties involved agree for it to be made public). I am going to say that this even applies to stuff that involves breaking forum rules - For example, if you are told by member X, in a private conversation, that he/she just leaked some bit of information to someone out of the clan, you should *NOT* take that information directly to the council or someone in authority(They are going to hate me for this). You should politely ask them to turn themselves in, but you should never violate someones privacy by turning someone in using information said in a private chat. That being said, public chats and posts are different - If someone says something in #wg or #wg_lobby, that is perfectly OK to take to council, or post on the forum in a appropriate area. If someone says something offensive to you in a private chat, that is a little iffy - You might be justified in reporting that if it was in a WG-centric medium(Like the forum PM system). Any other medium however, its not up to WG to punish the other guy, and we shouldn't think we can. I would strongly suggest simply ignoring the person, and not being baited. Edit: So, someone came to me with an interesting question: What do you do if you are talking with someone, and for whatever reason you don't know what to do, or the proper responce and you need someone elses help? One example is suicide - the person you are talking to is planning to commit suicide, and you don't know how to talk them out of it, or what they should do. What then? Well, I figure that going and asking someone about it without naming names would be fine. Just say something like(for our example) "A person I know is planning to commit suicide. What should I suggest they do?". This allows you to get the information you need, without compromising the other parties privacy. Then do it in private, not on forums or IRC. Although you're only technically linking, not hosted illegal content, there have been cases before where a site has been shut down for this reason - Although you can occasionally be "let off" for it, it typically requires a lot of money invested in legal fees. Nearly every full version game and program I have right now was free from the internet, and I have at least 6 burnt copies of Windows XP/Vista sitting behind me.
