I added three questions. Try to see if you can answer them correctly.

The combination of all three should prevent spammers from joining, because it takes a couple minutes to calculate the math, and visit the YT page.

It may seem hard, but really, its not that hard. This is basic grade school math. I have been hearing some grumbling about people not being able to do this in the IRC, and all I have to say is that, really, you guys are all teens. You certainly ought to be able to use a calculator and perform simple calculations - really, you can do the last two questions by hand, or with a +-*/ calculator - no fancy stuff needed. Windows's calculator will do it easily enough.

If I didn't clarify something in the question, I want feedback on that.

I may also be looking at adding multiple random sets of questions, but these three are a start.

You wanted an end to the pr0n-spammers, you got one. Perhaps not what you wanted, but it ought to stop them.

A bot itself wouldn't be able to add the title of the youtube link to the box.
So that question itself would end the bot reg.

Everything else is just over doing it.

You say that if you don't know how to answer the question you shouldn't join wg.

For one I gurantee 10% of the people prob couldnt answer the questions without using google.

And second what does knowing math have to do about being apart of the clan world?

All in all I think its un-needed, and will make the application process alot harder for people when they can't even register.

Well the first two questions should be easy enough to solve, but I think the third one is a bit much. My personal opinion. Plus I don't see as many pr0n posters these days. I guess either I miss all the good stuff or something.

Easy click and paste link. 3-4-5 triangle. Simple math with big numbers.

It's basic math.

I'm the one who actually came up with the triangle dimensions for the second question, when someone says "think of a triangle" the first thing that pops into my head is 3, 4, 5.

It's really quite basic.

The third question could use some clarification robbie, I could see how it could resort in a wrong answer, other than that though, looks good.

I agree, it is basic math, but that doesn't change the fact that a decent amount of members we have now couldn't even do that, so whats the need if it eliminates those people from being able to apply?

Is it needed for a Runescape clan?

I have to say..it seems awfully pointless to me. We honestly don't need to make things harder than they are now imo.

But, whats wrong with using Google? Firefox has a built-in search box, and IE you can either have the Google toolbar or type it into the url box and press enter and it will search(msn I think).

Really, you ought to know how to use Google. You find a word you can't spell correctly, or don't know its meaning? Google it. This is the *internet* people! You ought to have basic computer literacy here...

You use math every day in the real world, and in the RS world also. You have to keep track of your money in the real world, especially once you get a credit/debit card or a checking account, and most professions require basic math & calculator skills. In my state, Washington, you are required to know such simple math before you can graduate, and even the GED requires it.

In RS, you use it a fair amount, in problems like I used. You use math to figure out how long you can fight a curtain creature before returning for food, how long it will take you to gain a level, and more importantly for us, when an event will be in your time zone.

Math is used everywhere. Perhaps not calculus, but certainly grade-school basic math, and usually Algebra.

Could you please elaborate on how I can clarify it? I thought it was a bit unclear myself, but when I was testing it, no one on IRC would do it or help me out.

Yes. Just how do you expect to calculate what time an event is going to be?

Really, I am seeing from the whining(concerning something you don't even have to touch yourself) that you all need to take a basic math class. And I though *I* needed more math.

With the time converter at the top of the site?

I'm not whining for myself.

Just a couple Teamspeak meetings ago we were talking about doing something to get more recruits.

Why should we throw away a potentially perfect member just because they don't know the basic math skills?

I'm sure we can both agree, in the end this will get us less applications not more.

*shakes head* Gees... I thought you guys weren't average RS members. Just to prove my point to myself, I asked the third question to a couple of other groups(webcomic IRC channels even!) I got several replies in a minute, all but one correct. Compare that to WG IRC, where I ask, and people complain that its too hard. Really, suck it up, and if you can't do basic math, really, how do you expect to make any money in life? I for one don't want a bunch of "Durrr... RS is great! *click* *click*" people who have no clue about anything other than clicking buttons in Runescape. I really expected that everyone here had basic math skills, and a grade-school grammar level. I have been proven wrong yet again.

Its sad.

Wait, are people applying to a college/ site on how to get rich irl, or a Runescape clan?

Edit, Anyway, I voiced my opinion. I'm not going to argue/debate over it anymore.

Just take a second thought on what people are registering for, and how much the questions are actually needed.

Everything i've seen you do with this site is amazing, but this isn't really needed.

Looked at the questions and they're terribly easy.

Triangle, obviously a 3-4-5 Triangle, thank you Pythagoras, haha.

Last one, although lengthy is fine. Simple math:

Get difference of two levels, determine how much XP you get from one Bandit (by clicking provided link) and then dividing. Automatically round up to get the final answer.

Didn't actually do the problems, just looked at them. Shouldn't take a person more than 2-3 minutes.

The downside is if we've got someone who hasn't done geometry yet.

Personally, I feel that the questions should just be RS related. The second one is fine, because that actually does have ties with WG. Pro Silentium and such, leave it as is.

Might I suggest for the first one just take pictures of all the RS Stat Icons and then have each one randomly generated for each registration and have people enter in the name of the stat. Make sure to inform the applicant it has to be the full RS name, so instead of the "Range" they type "Ranged".

Otherwise, all's well.

Honestly, I like the idea. Rob, you're missing the point. We're not doing it because we feel our applicants need it, we're doing it to keep away the Porn Spammers. Which, were quite annoying. Though, I do agree, if somebody's applying and they can't even do basic math like that, then they're definitely under 10 years old or something. And personally, I don't think we need any more immature idiots in the clan. We already have a few. smile.gif (Yeah, YOU Darth <3)

My opinion is to get rid of the 2nd one, possibly change it to something easier. Many people don't start algebra/geometry until highschool, and unfortunately we do have (or had) some members that aren't at that level yet. Otherwise, they are all fairly easy, good work Robbie biggrin.gif.

I'm not convinced about the second two but the first question is excellent.

The problem is that while it may keep porn spammers out, it will also keep out people who are interested in WG.

Yes, some of you may argue "We don't want members who aren't committed anyway". Well remember they aren't members. They are just here to look around. If you were scouting for a clan and you had to spend ages trying to get onto their forums, you'd be put off too. They aren't sold yet. Until they become members, we still have to show them how great WG is and I think these questions may be harming that.
