Every time I run across someone who has parental controls on his or her computer, it makes me hate such things even more. If my parents did that to me, I would end up reformatting my computer if I had to to remove it. No way around it, I would not tolerate such things. Here is the EXE file renamed to .avi(nothing should block AVI. Remember to right-click > save as, or your browser might try to play it. I can't find much about how to disable webroot's parental controls, so I will try to help you, but I don't know if I can fix the problem. First off, can you get into safe mode? Google if you don't know how. -RobbieThe1st -------------------- Old Avatar - Paypal donation link ![]() I am left handed, and proud of it! Retired from RuneScape. Nope, cant get it into safemode, my parents even disabled the "run" dealio. I cant even access it through task manager or through a doc w/ the command on it ffs. Safemode=impossible I think, I searched for roundabout ways to get to it for like 3 days... That is why I hate my parents.... All I can access is the BIOS, but I don't think that does shit for me lul. -------------------- ![]()

Perhaps we can launch CMD directly: Navigate to c:\windows\system32 and click on cmd.exe 2. alternate method for navigation: Start up internet explorer, click on tools > internet options. Content tab, click on the "certificates" button, import on the new dialog. Click next on the wizard, then click "browse". Now, change filetype to all, and navigate to c:\windows\system32. Right-click on cmd.exe and click "run". 3. Schedule it to run: Go into control panel, click on scheduled tasks, add scheduled task. Now go through the wizard, and schedule c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe for one or two minutes later than the current time. It *should* open a command window. If cmd.exe is missing from the folder, ask and I will send you a copy. If you are getting an error each time, well... one option left: KNOPPIX. You are going to need to download an ISO, burn it to CD, and then boot off it. At that point you can use knoppix as-is for some stuff, or perhaps fix your windows install. http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/KNO...07-01-04-EN.iso or http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/knoppix/KNO...07-01-04-EN.iso Hope that helps! One other option is to go buy yourself a second harddisk and install windows on that - Make it so that you have a second harddisk which you can boot that is free of crapware. -RobbieThe1st -------------------- Old Avatar - Paypal donation link ![]() I am left handed, and proud of it! Number 1 and 2 don't work =/ ![]() ![]() Number 3 doesn't work because the control panel is not visible on my account(b/c of the gay program) Number 4 I will try tomorrow but um question. (Idk if I have cd burning software on my pc)- SO do any of these have the capability- Itunes, Windows Media Player, Musicmatch Jukebox, or Apple Quicktime? If not I am probably screwed lul. I doubt it would be able to run Runescape off a liveCD. I haven't come across a liveCD that comes standard with Java and all the plugins you need to run Runescape. Since Robbie brought out the linux thing.... How much shit do you figure you would get in if you dual booted Ubuntu or some other linux platform along side your windows OS? It's very easy to do, almost a completely automated setup now and whatnot. It would be a good way to give yourself a completely sepparate partition of a hard drive for yourself. You're parents won't be able to see it from the windows side of things so they can't mess around with it in windows. You would be able to set your own password and such, edit files on the windows partition. The only way your parents would know about the dual boot, is if they saw you on Ubuntu, they might realise that it's not windows anymore and they might attempt to boot it when the bootloader shows the option of booting Ubuntu or Windows. For that last one, I believe there is a way to modify GRUB (the bootloader) so that it defaults boot to windows unless a specific key is pressed at the boot menu. It's fully customizable since the software is open source, so anything and everything is customizable with linux. -------------------- ![]() ![]()

If I had 1.4 Grand I would......but my parents stole 1 Grand from my account b/c they need it to pay the bills......You have no idea how pist I am. I withdrew all my other money on the account and it is hidden in my room in like 3 different spots. atm....I have like $600, and that's not enough for a laptop I would actually want. And I don't work enough hours to buy the pc in payments.....and I am not 18 so I can't get a loan. -------------------- ![]()

When you want to boot from that drive you can hit the F12 key(may be different with different bios manufacturers), and select the harddisk from a boot-list(With this desktop, my laptop, and the last couple of machines I worked with, F12 brings up a hardware boot-list, and you can select which to boot from). Unless you knew to hit f12 and select the new harddisk, it would boot the old harddisk. The only thing you would have to worry about would be parents seeing the harddisk in my computer, so you could unmount it if you had access, or simply disconnect the thing when it isn't needed(just don't put the screws back in the computer case side). It would provide the privacy of a new computer without the cost(harddisks are CHEAP now - $50-75 for a decent(~400GB) one now. Obviously getting a new computer would be the best option, but as you said, that costs money you don't have now. You could always do my plan, and when you get your new computer, spend $20 and get an external harddisk case for it, and use it as a storage dive for your laptop(Or, simply get an external harddisk in the first place, and take it apart). Linux booting wise, it would be nice to setup, but... I am not sure Kiwi's level of expertise, and for some reason think that it would be harder to setup than the windows option(And, you couldn't make your new windows setup look like the old one, so if your parents looked casually, it would appear to be the bugged version - One thing this webroot program advertises is that it doesn't show up anywhere, so you can use that to your advantage). -RobbieThe1st -------------------- Old Avatar - Paypal donation link ![]() I am left handed, and proud of it! A hardware fix would be the best and definitively a lot easier than my linux fix. I'm not sure why his parents would ever open up the chassis of the computer and have a look inside. Mine never have, I've always been the one to mess around in there. Probably the biggest give away would be if his parents saw him on a site or on the computer at times that they have banned. And if they wanted to use the computer, he would have to restart the computer and find an excuse to do so... -------------------- ![]() ![]()

Or would he - If he used the same version of windows on his own HD, then unless they tried to check the parental control software, they wouldn't notice - Webroot's parental control advertises that it is invisible. If you wanted to be even more careful, you would install a copy of the parental control software, but keep the password yourself. Hm... Speaking of that, I wonder - What if Kiwi ran a keylogger on his comp when his parents were going to check on the parental control software - Once you have the password, you can then disable it as needed, and if his parents change the password, its easy enough to get. Only thing Kiwi would need is some decent keylogger software, and have someone rename it to an extension not blocked. -RobbieThe1st -------------------- Old Avatar - Paypal donation link ![]() I am left handed, and proud of it! I had a G/F once who I didnt trust all that much,I key logged my system to get her yahoo pass,it wasnt easy to do,for my protection kept uninstalling it,lol but you can get it to work long enough to get the job done. Download.com has a lot of free ones that dont even show up in the program or task manager list, and do not create a program folder either. and have to be started though hot keys after you system is booted up,so that its not detected,(most virus protections run a quick scan upon boot up) I dont remember the name of the one Im referring to,but once you install it and set up the hot keys, don't forget the right keys to push, you'll not be able to access it at all nor find it ![]() Ive seen this subject lots of times about parents "taking" their kids money, its sad. My one friend who lives in Ma,she saved up for over a year to buy her own laptop and her mom basically took it over ,its very disturbing parents can be so ignorant and selfish. Good luck with your issues ,No kid should have to hide their money from any adult. Thats messed up. -------------------- ![]()
