For one year we have alot of games being released, and this thread is here to see which game you think deserves the title of Game of the year! Now to start off, this list is of no way an Official list, its mainly a bunch of games that i know about and expect to be good. Im going to try and be un-bias in terms of console here, but subconsciously i can imagine i will be. For some background information, the "Game of the Year" Award is infact a real award, its given out each year to a game that has excelled in the following characteristics: - Campaign - Multiplayer - Online Multiplayer Compatibility - Gameplay - Storyline - Success within the gaming market - Graphics Please take all these into account before voting. Underneath is a breakdown of the games up for Game of the Year 2008. Halo 3 Although the game itself was released in 2007, its success since then has been astounding. Halo 3 is still one of Xbox 360's most popular games, as a third installment it had alot to deleiver and it did as it was promised. The Halo series has become one of the most popular games of all time on the Xbox 360 and was one of the major contenders of Game of the Year '07. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare CoD4 is the fourth installment in the CoD series and in my opinion one of the best games ever released. The game was released in late 2007, but again has reached Game of the Year because of its overwhelming success on all consoles. The game itself is the only one in a series of 5 to break away from WW2. The game features an amazing campaign and the multiplayer almost defines what a multiplayer game should be like. Call of Duty 5: World at War This game challenged many people by bringing the CoD series back to WW2. Many gamers thought this game would fail, including myself, i have no first hands experience with this game but have heard very mixed opinions about it. Although the game takes many characteristics from CoD4 and uses them to their advantage to make the game better. Farcry 2 Farcry 2 is the second in the farcry series, i have only played it once and the game itself is amazing. You are given complete freedom to do what you want and how you would do it, the games plot is yet unknown to me, but from what i see is a very good FPS. You should also note that Farcry 2's map-maker is one of the best released to date, you are given 50KM of open space and are able to do what you want were you want. Fallout 3 Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios. It is the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned the spin-offs Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world. The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. Grand Theft Auto 4 Grand Theft Auto IV is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North. It is the ninth title in the Grand Theft Auto series and the first in its fourth generation. The game was immediately preceded by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Grand Theft Auto IV was released for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Australia, Europe and North America on 29 April 2008, and in Japan on 30 October 2008. A Windows version of the game will be released in North America on 2 December 2008 and in Europe one day later. Two episodic packs are being developed exclusively for the Xbox 360, the first of which entitled The Lost and Damned. Gears of War 2 Gears of War 2 is a tactical third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360. It is the sequel to Gears of War, and was announced by lead designer Cliff Bleszinski during the February 20, 2008 Game Developers Conference. The game uses a heavily upgraded version of the Unreal Engine 3. During E3 2008, a worldwide release date for the game was set for November 7, 2008. Since its release, Gears of War 2 has been received with critical acclaim, and in its opening weekend the game sold over two million units. Fable 2 Fable II is an action role-playing game developed by Lionhead, published by Microsoft Game Studios. The sequel to Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters, it was originally announced in 2006 and released in October 2008. The game takes place in the fictional world of Albion, five hundred years after Fable's setting, in a colonial era resembling the time of highwaymen or the Enlightenment; guns are still primitive, and large castles and cities have developed in the place of towns. Unlike the original, the player may choose to be either male or female. Rock Band 2 Rock Band 2 is a music video game developed by Harmonix Music Systems, as the sequel to Rock Band. It is the second title in the Rock Band series. The game software was released in North America for the Xbox 360 on September 14, 2008, along with individual instrument peripherals. The software/hardware bundle for the Xbox 360 was made available on October 19, 2008,[7] the same date that the PlayStation 3 versions of the software, hardware, and bundle of the two were released. Versions of the game for the Wii and PlayStation 2 platforms will be released later in the year. Guitar Hero: World Tour uitar Hero World Tour (initially referred to as Guitar Hero IV) is a music video game developed by Neversoft and published by RedOctane and Activision. It is the fourth main entry in the Guitar Hero series. The game was launched in North America in October 2008 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 consoles, and a month later for Europe and Australia. A version of the game has been rated by the ESRB for Microsoft Windows computers, though Activision has not officially confirmed this version. While the game continues to feature the use of a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of rock music, Guitar Hero World Tour is the first game in the Guitar Hero series to feature drum and microphone controllers for percussion and vocal parts. Gameplay is similar to the competing Rock Band series of games. Little Big Planet LittleBigPlanet, sometimes abbreviated to LBP and developed under the title The Next Big Thing, is a puzzle platformer and user generated content video game for the PlayStation 3, first announced on 7 March 2007, by Phil Harrison at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. It is developed by Media Molecule, a British company founded in part by Rag Doll Kung Fu creator Mark Healey, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The game revolves around the player's control of small avatars, known as Sackboys owing to their appearance, in a variety of platforming scenarios. Though the game features a set of pre-built levels for players to explore, of equal importance is the game's customisable nature, from altering the player's character and personal space, to building entirely new objects and levels, and then sharing and playing them online as part of the LittleBigPlanet community. Spore Spore is a multi-genre massive single-player online metaverse video game developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a LucasArts video game and part of the The Force Unleashed multimedia project; other The Force Unleashed project developers and publishers include Dark Horse Comics, Lego, Hasbro, and Del Rey Books. The Force Unleashed was developed for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 consoles and on the iPhone OS, second-generation N-Gage,Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, and Java-equipped mobile phone handhelds. The game was released in North America on September 16, in Australia and Southeast Asia on September 17, and in Europe on September 19, 2008. A PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 demo became available for download on August 21 and LucasArts also plans to offer downloadable content for those two systems. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (commonly abbreviated to MGS4) is a third person stealth action video game. Directed by Hideo Kojima, Shuyo Murata and Yoji Shinkawa, Guns of the Patriots was developed by Kojima Productions exclusively for the PlayStation 3 video game console. It is the seventh title in the Metal Gear series and the first in its fourth generation. The game was released worldwide on June 12, 2008, 10 years after the release of Metal Gear Solid and 20 years after the US release of the first Metal Gear. Mirror's Edge is awesome but, for some reason it hasnt done very well, Not many people play it, on the 360 that is. CoD4 was AWESOME, but after getting all my golden guns I got bored of it. I can still play it whenever I want simply for the fun-ness of it, but Halo 3 got more support and upgrades, and there's still more to come, so it got my vote. Of course the gameplay, graphics, realism, and most other aspects of the game are with CoD4... but Halo is just so much fun!!! Soon as I get some cash(or I can just wait until Xmas), I'll be getting most of these: Gears of War 2 Left 4 Dead Guitar Hero: WT Fallout 3 Mirror's Edge Endwar and a few others. But until then...
