if i were to get a laptop, which should i get for a great gaming experience?

A desktop is always going to be more powerful, there are no questions there. A laptop is more for the gamer who moves around a lot.

I would always recommend desktop over laptop, but Dell does have some wonderful laptop deals, and they really aren't as bad as everyone says. I mean yes, I have sent my computer in for repair... but I caused that.

Also if you check on www.notebookreview.com you can find some stellar coupons to make the deals even better.

If you're looking for a laptop with a good gaming experience then look towards Alienware. They have the BEST gaming laptops, but they charge a lot. You could also look to Dell, which has cheap laptops for good specifications that SHOULD be able to handle your needs.

I'd personally recommend just upgrading your current desktop. Add some more RAM and upgrade the V-card and you should be set.

You are aware that since Alienware was bought out by Dell their quality has gone down right? I don't know what the hype is about Alienware, there is nothing really special about them other than they use a highly compatible motherboard to allow you use of more things. This can be installed in any computer with the same outcome.

I know they were bought by Dell, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they aren't top of the line gaming machines.

Sure they might not be as hardcore as they were before they were bought, but Dell uses them to appeal to the gamers. Their XPS platform is alright, but Alienware is superior in that respect.

I was merely giving multiple angles that he could approach his situation by. I personally do believe Alienware has the best gaming laptops out there.

The only thing I don't like about installing motherboards and stuff is the whole CPU thing. I'm not comfortable with handling the CPU just because of the idea I might fry it. I'd rather buy a Mobo with it installed already. If he finds that, great - I also mentioned that upgrading his desktop would be my first choice.

If it helps add to my credibility, I know at least 6 people that have bought alienware laptops recently, and paid more than I did for my Inspiron... My Inspiron runs better than 5 of the machines, and one is on par with me. Their quality has gone from ok, to horrible.

Seeing as how they're owned by the same company, I doubt they'd nerf their gaming machines for the sake of the Dell name.

Not all of Alienware's machines are powerhouses. A number of them are, or could be with the right upgrades (the case with most notebooks). If they bought a low-middle end model at the standard configuration then maybe your Inspiron would run better. What is the configuration of your Inspiron? I've used Dell before and their machines are excellent (reason why I mentioned them also). If you upgraded your video card, added some RAM and upgraded to a slightly faster processor, then yeah it'd be faster and run more smoothly than a premade Alienware low-middle build.

In any case...forget Alienware. So now your two main angles (I'd say) are Dell and upgrades. I'd mention some other brands, but nevermind. I'd also recommend some parts...but again, nevermind.

When my $1500 computer is better in all ways except it has one less gig of ram than an alienware that cost $3000.... I know what I am talking about..... Don't buy alienware....

Sure, go with that. I personally don't care. Never owned Alienware, and don't plan on it because I don't use Windows.

Just forget everything I said. I really don't have the time to argue over whether or not Alienware makes good computers. You've got your opinion, I've got mine. I'm more than willing to accept that they're not the single best in every aspect although that I what I believe, I'll listen to the other side. I don't feel the same from you so I'm done.

Toshiba is also over priced for what you get. Anything sold at a big box store I'd stay away from. Generally out dated technology.

The XPS laptops from Dell will have a tendency to burn you're lap if you actually plan on gaming with the thing on your lap just because of how much heat they generate.

Vostro laptops are pretty cool from Dell. Just like an inspiron, same price but better quality in some respects because it is a business class...well a beefed up version of the inspiron anyways. I can't really compare it to Lenovo or anything of that caliber.

well, you do make a point, but well, They are nice pc's and tech support's nice(@ least for me).

and with XPS laptops(or any gaming laptop), you could just get a $20 cooler pad or w/e they are called. They seem to work well.
