So, I got a new computer (only because it is being paid for by home insurance, even though the old one is in almost perfect condition).

Check out these amazing specs:

Antec 900 Case
650W Earthwatts Power Supply (Antec)
Gigabyte X58 Motherboard
3x2GB G.SKILL DDR3 RAM
EVGA 9800 GTX+
Intel i7 (Quad-Core, i7 processors were released 11/08) 2.66GHz
WD 500GB HD
Windows 7 Beta

Let me be the first to say, Windows 7 is awesome. I haven't been able to test the specs with intense games/graphics yet, but on CS:S it runs perfectly on high settings with 500+ FPS.

Tomorrow I'll transfer the files between my computers so I can actually do something. This is my first solo build, so I'm proud that it was successful biggrin.gif.

Beastly spcecs man. My favorite is the 6GB DDR3 RAM. Love that. The i7 is nice, as is the V-card.

Why would you want a BETA OS pre-installed? blink.gif

Windows 7 is supposed to be very stable even in it's beta stages. And it's far superior to Vista, or so I've heard - haven't used it, or even seen it at all.

My IST Networking teacher has the post-beta version of W7 already. He's bringing his laptop with it installed in on Tuesday and he says he's VERY impressed. Also nice PC. hash.png I'll be getting one myself hopefully this summer that will vastly outdo all of your 'puters. I hope. hash.png

Originally I didn't want to, but my Vista CD didn't work. So I installed Windows 7, and I'm amazed at how well it performs and how stable it is, even 64 bit. Part of me still wants to install windows vista, but I think I'm gonna buy Windows 7 as soon as its released anyways. Its incredible and yes, far superior to vista IMO.

I retract that statement. Vista > Windows 7 until the full release. Beta is (obviously) no good, without drivers etc etc.

How much did it cost?

Computer alone was $1,115 USD

Extras such as Mouse, Keyboard, Headset, Mousepad, and Monitor, brought the price up to $1,550. Almost all (if not all) Will be paid for by house insurance. So I hardly spent anything.

I noticed some artifacting yesterday afternoon. I system restored back to the first day I got the PC (no drivers, only a few programs installed). I then re-installed video and mouse drivers, and it didn't happen again. Next step is mobo drivers, etc etc. Just going to do everything one by one til I find the problem. It could also just be that the drivers don't mix well with windows 7.

So let me clear this up.
You bought all the parts $1115 then assembled it yourself?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe DDR3 comes in 3x1GB or 3x2GB. I opted for 3x2GB, it came out to $150 which is a sweet deal for 6 gigs. Obviously I won't need it in the near future, but down the road it will come in handy.

And Geoff... yes.

I was thinking exactly the same thing but it seems like the parts cost more in the UK because I totaled it at around 850 pounds without the Windows 7 Beta (Not sure where to get that)

You can get it on Window's website for free. Not sure if the beta is still open, though. So I'd hurry up.

Open to the first 2.5m downloaders. I dont really mind if I do miss it though, I'm more concerned about the computer.

Do you think it's possible that I could take the parts down to a local computer shop and ask them to assemble it?
I've always wanted to make my own but I just dont know how sad.gif

They can probably do it, but they might charge out the ass. Its honestly very easy, if you can't figure out something, the manual for that certain part will usually help you out. I had a friend build my last computer and I watched over him sort of. Even from watching him, I didn't feel like I learned very much. But it was still enough to successfully build it.

I also had a problem with this computer, so I was troubleshooting by removing unnecessary parts etc. Eventually I did everything so much that I know exactly how to do it, even if I got a new case/mobo.
