The equal opportunities act in the UK basically limits how discriminative they can be when reviewing your application. They have no right to do background checks on your personal life, other than a check on your criminal record or more in-depth for applicants applying for a job with vulnerable peers, such as in a school or retirement home. They're not exactly going to see your application and google you.
