::: 1.0 Introduction to the ZMI altar :::

The ZMI altar is the most consistant way to make fast runecrafting experience; located north of the Observatory and easily accessible by teleport the altar is the best way to train runecrafting.

user posted image
:::Key:::
RED - Ladder down into cave.
BLUE - Teleport location.

The ZMI altar offers exceptionally fast runecrafting experience at roughly the same rate of the top running companies. As well as fast experience, the ZMI altar offers a wide range of runes to add to your stock keeping them all at a healthy amount.

::: 2.0 What to do before you start :::

Quest requirements:
Lunar Diplomacy
Abyss mini-quest
As a last resort [Recommended]
Dream Mentor [Recommended]

Skill requirements:
71 Mage
Any runecrafting level
52 Summoning [Recommended]

The method I explain to use in the guide requires use of the Lunar teleport spell 'Ourania teleport'. To activate this spell you must talk to Baba Yaga who is found on Lunar Isle north of the bank in the walking-chicken house.

Using the bank inside the cave is less productive than using the abyss so I wouldn't recommend using it.

::: 3.0 Crafting at the ZMI altar :::

Step 1:
After activating your new spell and changing your spell book to Lunar magic make your way to the Moonclan teleport location.

user posted image

Step 2:
Set-up you inventory as shown below. Make sure you have all the pouches that you can use lined up on the second bottom row so when you right-click them to empty your cursor will hover above 'empty' without movement and if you're using super energies which I strongly recommend you should have them in a spot where it is easily clicked, but not in the way when you're storing your runes later.

You will also need as a starter a small amount of astra and law runes for teleporting until you've built up a stock. I would suggest taking 100 astral runes and 50 laws for teleporting back and forth to begin with just incase you get very unlucky. Place them in your inventory as shown so they are out of the way and so you don't accidently store them in your bank.

Step 3:
You will now need to decide what you will wear depending on your defence and prayer levels. The best outfit is one that is lightweight and provides good defence.

I would recommend this outfit for those who are not crafting on world 70.

user posted image

This outfit could be used on world 70. You can also vary between any d'hide, Karils' or Armadyl depending on what you can afford/have the requirements for.

user posted image

The benefits of these outfits are a decent overall defence and are also resonably light.

Step 4:
Now to begin crafting. You will use the new Ourania teleport to begin. You will appear here.

user posted image

Step 5:
Run up the hill to the west and climb down the ladder. When you reach the top pray at the altar if you wish to use prayer in the cave however it is not required as you rarely get hit hard with 80+ defence.

user posted image

Step 6:
Run directly south then around the corner and head east to the altar. You will come across all 3 combat classes here and if you're praying I would recommend protection from melle until you are past all the warriors then protection from range until you reach the altar. When you reach the altar craft your runes and empty your pouches.

Step 7:
Once you have crafted the runes return to the Moonclan teleport location and make your way to the bank and repeat the process.

Step 8:
When your pouches degrade you'll need to repair them via the abyss. To do so teleport to edgeville using a glory and make your way to the centre with the dark mage. Ask him to repair your pouch and either craft some runes in the abyss while you're there or teleport to the ZMI altar and craft there.

Optional:

For those who have completed the As a last resort quest you can substitute super energies for the salt water spas. This method is super effective and I would definately recommend it.

The salt water spa allows you to run continuously for 12-20 minutes based off your agility level. The other great thing about this effect is that despite your weight you can still run continuously! This means get rid of the light weight armour and put on your best gear, you should only need to use the protect from mage prayer if praying as well since your melle and range defence is so high.

For fast access to the salt water spa there are two methods:

Method 1:

If you've completed the Fairy Tale Part 2 quest you can tele to Edgeville then go to the ring east to get to the main ring. Then enter AKS and run south to the spa.

Method 2:

Method 2 is slightly faster however is will cost you 1k. Teleport to Karamaja then run to the port beside the banana plantation. Use the charter boat to travel to Oo'glog and run west when you get there to the spa.

Summoning

If you have 52 summoning using a Spirit Terrorbird as a replacement for super energies is definately a must have. The scrolls give you a boost to your energy which is greater the higher your agility level and for most this is more than a dose of super energy. The scrolls also stack so there's no need to withdraw one everytime you bank.

You can also use essence carrying familiars to get more done per trip however I believe the benefits of the Spirit Terrorbird make it superiour and a lot easier to use.

::: 4.0 What to expect from crafting here :::

At level 90 runecraft I averaged 40k XP an hour using roughly 2k pure essence in that time.

To calculate your XP per an hour time how long it takes to take one run.

*Convert the time per run to seconds. (1min 30secs = 90secs)

*Divide 3600 by your run time. (!calc 3600/90) [3600 is the amount of seconds in a hour]

*You will then get a number which shows your runs per hour ([10:28:03] -[TB]RuneScript- *** [ CALC ]: 3600/90 = 40)

Then all you need to do is to work out your average XP gained per run and times it by the runs you make in an hour.

eg.
40 * 980 = 39.2k XP per an hour.

::: 6.0 FAQ :::

Q: How does this compare with FFL?
A: Since the trade update I would say it is slightly better than FFL; however you need to have some cash, quests and certain requirements for this training method. If you don't have the requirements then FFL would be the next best thing however getting the requirements is well worth it.

Q: I've been kicked off the island while I was trying to bank, what am I doing wrong?
A: If you have not completed the Dream Mentor quest you can't bank without a Seal of Passage. To get another Seal of Passage go to the chief in Rellekka long hall and he will replace you with a new one. The Seal is weildable and can replace the glory until you need to repair a pouch. You must also ensure you are talking only to Bird's Eye Jack when banking without a Seal of Passage as the other 2 bankers will still kick you off the island.

Q: Can you get away with not wearing the armour even if you're below 90 defence?
A: Only if you're on a resonably crowded world or if you're praying. World 70 is the ZMI world and I'd recommend it if you don't lag on it.

Q: How ofter do giant pouches degrade?
A: Every 10 trips.

Q: What does FFL mean?
A: Fast Free Laws. A runecrafting company on worlds 66 and 99.

Q: Do runecrafting companies still run since the trade update?
A: Yes, as far as I know all major runecrafting companies running prior to the trade update are still running, however they're using assist now. I'm a thread operator for W36 Double Nats and we're still going strong.

Q: Why do you recomend pouches on the second bottom row and not the first column?
While you're character is crafting you can not make any movements or empty any other pouches you have. So while you're crafting it would be faster to make any mouse movements like right-clicking a pouch preparing to empty it. Having the pouches on the second bottom row allows for this whereas having them in the first column still requires movement when your character has finished crafting which does waste a little bit of time neko2.gif

While you are crafting right click a pouch then move the cursor as shown below in the red:

user posted image

Then when you click to empty pouch right-click again straight after and your cursor will be above the empty option for the next pouch also.

user posted image

If you did this in the column it would not be already hovering over the empty option but only in a spot allowing you to right-click it.

It doesn't make a massive difference but if you're going to be doing lots of runecrafting you want to eliminate anything that will slow you down hash.png

Great guide, but i just run through naked and switch prayers tbh #

Nice guide Anat, but what's your rationale of putting pouches as such? I usually put 'em in the first column so when you right click-empty, your cursor will drop down to the next pouch :$

I'll add a picture later when I get the chance to show how it's faster.

Great guide Anat, thank you very much, you always seem to read my mind regarding clan stuff.
I was gonna and still am going to ask some 99 skillers to write a guide/guides about their respective 99 skill and you have already done this biggrin.gif

Awesome guide, thanks a lot wub.gif

Good guide,

2 additions i would like to make

1) Because there is an alter right next to the entrance you may as well use prayers and then if you are using my tip hash.png2 keep the armour if not lose it and save weight thus super energies.

2) Use the new salt water pools. You can get infinite run energy for basically around 12-25 mins depending on your agility level. This saves super energies and means you dont have tyo remember to drink/change pots etc.
When it runs out just use fairy ring and run south, or tele to catherby if you mage is high and charter ship.

But great guide, when i next want to lvl RC i'll give that a shot (81 atm, desire to RC sorta gone though sad.gif )

Awesome guide. I never really know quite how good the exp is. I heard you easily profit from this as well? If I ever get my internet fixed, I'll try it perhaps!

Yep they're some good points. I've tried the salt water bath and it is a good substitute for super energies for the amount of time it lasts before you have to recharge. If I'm not home too late on Friday I'll add this and the pouch placement which I've put off a bit.

You do make a bit of profit although compared to when i did this from 90-91 it's not as significant because pure ess has doubled in price since then. But once you hit 91 it's basically half price pure ess in a way lol.gif

Edit: Updated guide to include all this!

By Carrot166 on 11/03/2008
Lol i never heard of this alter tbh lol. This will help me a lot thx.

By Anatcrafter on 11/05/2008
I plan to update this soon to include summoning and a few other things when I find the time to test them out. Doing the ZMI event this weekend has renewed my goal for the top 20 neko2.gif

By Jayson on 11/05/2008
great guide

i also like to use spirit terrorbird, so i carry a glory in it, + some food if needed (you cant carry ess in it btw, i thought i could lol, but you prob know that) and then just bring like 100 scrolls for run energy

there is a summoning recharge thingo outside the bank on moonclan anyway so its no trouble smile.gif

By Indivi2you on 11/05/2008
Ohh Real nice guide Anat. I'll use it today for rcing to 60 smile.gif

Thanks mate.

One thing you can do instead of holding all four pouches in the second to last row, is have them all in the first column going down vertically. Putting the giant pouch at the top left of your inventory, then large, then medium, then tiny underneath. This way you can just right click on the first one, click empty, and your mouse is already over the second one, so you can just right click right away again.

But in the end the two methods; the one that I described and the one that Anatcrafter has shown, are only a matter of personal preference. Realistically, even if you didn't put your pouches in any arrangement at all, you'd probably lose maybe 2-3 hours getting 99 runecrafting. So the pouch arrangement only increases your rate by about 0.3 %. Barely noticeable.

Nice guide - I have a question though: Do you MAKE or LOSE money when using this method? tongue.gif

Thanks for the suggestion, I was planning on adding that and the essence carrying familiars once I've got my next summoning level.

It actually is slightly easier to place them where I show, I may add some pictures to show how since there are a few people who have different views and I may be wrong so I'll do it just to make sure tongue.gif In the end it would make very little difference but I like to zone out while I'm rc'ing and I try to avoid any extra thinking neko2.gif

You would be close to breaking even if not losing a small amount. It's well worth it though if you can afford a small loss.

Very nice guide nat <3 but what's the point of the bear hat? is it just to look good?

It's got a mage bonus and was pretty much the best thing to go on your head because it was light, free from a quest and had small bonuses. It's become kind of an old school thing now I guess, I'll add variety of things to wear since that choice isn't the best for everyone nowadays.

By Big Al 002 on 23/06/2009
say anat when do you think you can show me how to do this thru in-game walkthrough hash.png

EDIT: say anat when do you think we can spend some bonding time together and zmi together eh
