New Applicants

By David on 28/02/2009
I just had an idea to weed out trial guardians who might be trouble makers, not dedicated members and stuff like that.

I know we do some sort of check, but because I don't know what that check is I'm making this suggestion.

In my dad's job, when he is up for promotion he has to supply a list of people for the promotion panel of that year to talk to. The list has to be made up of supervisors, regular co-workers, people that worked for him and even people that used to work with him but have retired. What the promotion panel then does is talk to those people to find out about him. His productivity, the way he is as a worker.

I say we have trials supply a list like that. Doesn't have to be long, like 5-10 people of various ranks in their previous clans. Ask for at least a leader and a few tertiaries and then some people under him (if he himself was in a position).

This would give us an idea of what that member is like. Whether or not they tried to make it to key events. If he contributed to the clan, or just kind of sat there. If he was nice or not. Could tell us a lot.

Also, it would make our forums more secure than they already are. These could also be used as security checks and stuff.

Just an idea. If this is already in operation then yeah, nice job guys!

EDIT:

Changed title from "Trial Guardians" to "New Applicants" I think the term "Trial Guardians" caused confusion.

I'm not sure how that would work out. We have current members who are good that were kicked from past clans. Sometime we are the "start over".

Maybe I wasn't clear.

What I mean is this:

Player 1 is a new applicant for WG:

He supplies us with these five people:
1
2
3
4
5

So, the Council goes to 1 and asks what the guy was like and says something like:

"He was alright. Flamed a bit but listened most of the time. Worked hard when the clan needed him, but was usually involved in drama situations."

2 says:

"He was a jerk, don't waste your time."

3 says:

"I like him. He was very friendly to me and usually to the new members."

And so on.

I mean, if an applicant was kicked, there has to be a reason. Why not ask the clan's leaders their reason for kicking? Maybe they were less tolerant than us, or were far more strict.

Even if we are the "start over" there had to have been a previous finish. Something made them stop.

not really needed. if they were trouble makers, they would be kicked out, n they wouldnt come to the most honor clan in rs L

Seems a lot like the current 5-member referral system :S I'll re-read it though.

This. Its just what the mentor and referals do, without being named it

Maybe it was my mistake saying Trial Guardians, what I mean was this to be used for new applicants.

I think that may be the problem.

EDIT:

Changed title for less confusion as to who this suggestions is aimed at.

Good idea but there is a problem.

What if the member is good but had a fight with an 'influential' member in his old clan, which made friends of that influential member support him against this applicant of ours when he was a member of that clan? I know a lot of situations like this :$

I mean, the applicant would have to know not to put people on the list that he doesn't have a good relationship with. So, there would obviously be some quirks.

I was talking with JC and we came to the conclusion that my idea wouldn't be practical in the clan world. It relies on other clans respecting our little investigations, and a number would just ignore it.

Some might be welcome to the idea but I have come to the conclusion that it requires to much cooperation amongst all clans. It would rely on respect and there isn't that much of that going around the clan world.

So yeah, this can be kept open if discussion is wanted.

I think Trial Gaurdian sounds more official than New applicant lol.

Trial Guardian makes it sound like it would be something for Graduation.

My idea is supposed to occur before the person is even admitted into the clan. The reason being trials could potentially cause loads of drama. If the person isn't even admitted to the clan, then little to no drama.

Also, it wouldn't be that much work.

It wouldn't be full out interviews. Just ask a leader, regular member and another person on the list how the guy was. If he left because he was kicked, a little bit of an explanation. Not essays, just a quick conversation to get a general idea of the guy from other points of view.

Basically I think the way David is trying to put it is make all applicants have their own rank. When their application is accepted, then they are a trial, but until then they are an applicant.

I really like this idea. If it would work in reality like it sounds like it would work on paper, then it would be perfect. It more than likely won't however, so I don't know if it would be beneficial to implement it.

Even if it isn't 5 references, but only 2, it would still be great. It is basically like on a job application where they ask you to tell them your previous employers along with their information in-case they want to check up on your background.

When I was in retri and hr, the pc clans, I remember that when we brought someone into the clan with our referral, we were somewhat responsible for what that person did, (we had a lot of problems with leaking the pc worlds). Since part of the WG application involves a referral from a WG member, maybe WG members should take that referral a bit more seriously, since they know the person that is applying. Don't refer your good friend that you know has a history of being a slacker.
