Anime & Manga

Yeah, it was like having a huge hairy Russian in a mesh shirt and thong take a cheese grater to your eardrums. I've seen most of Naruto up until the fillers in Japanese; it's amazing how much changing the language can do (or rather, what choosing terrible voice actors can do) to ruin a series. Same with Bleach, although that anime just generally deteriorated after the Soul Society arc. Thank goodness manga isn't threatened by dubbing.

So you haven't read about Sasuke and what happened when he caught up with Itachi either?

I think part of the reason for this is the culture behind the language.
The Japanese, in particular, say and do things that can be awkward or strange to Westerners. When you try and translate some of their phrases into spoken English, they can sometimes lose some of their original meaning, and, as a result, the inital awkwardness of the phrase can be amplified. Naruto's catch-phrase is a good example of this.


Another example would be in the common phrase/word "おねがいします" (Onegaishimasu), which can literally be translated as "Please treat me favorably" or "Let's do our best" in English. It's somewhat complex in that you could say it just before a fight, or when begging someone. In our culture, to say something equivalent to this in a similar situation would be strange, unless presented in a certain way.

"Believe it!" in the English dubbing of Naruto just sounds a bit corny as a catch-phrase, doesn't it?


Anyway, sharing all this is a bit ironic since I've only really seen a few episodes of Naruto and Bleach. However, the primary reason I haven't watched them is because I got introduced to them in English dubbing... And, well, hopefully you get the idea. lol

Possibly, I skipped a bunch of chapters so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed something like that. But still, he ignores that his sword is sentient for like 200 chapters at a time. Ichigo fails at manners.

Naruto was incredible, but IMO Bleach was even more stunning. It's about time a mainstream manga took it's main character and blasted his heart right out the back of his chest.

he already lost his arm though, I though, I thought that was enough. Even though I hate the parts he fights in hes a semi-decent charachter and ima be sad if he died(hes not gonna either way which kinda sucks b/c the sadness would be nice w/ a main charachter actually dieing)

-The Count of Monte Cristo (But around episode 20 it got a bit boring)

eureka 7 was pretty good even though i never fully understood the storyline

Itachi stuffed a crow down Naruto's throat.
The village just heard about Jiraiya's death.
Naruto & Iruka have a nice talk about...Life or something (It was boring for me 'cos it was kind of sad), the rest was really good, I like watching the Anime, the fight scenes are good, especially the eight tails & Itachi.

It's entirely possible the shinigami and arrancar are still beating each other senseless while Ichigo and Aizen are facing off in the alternative dimension of the alternative dimension they got to from an alternative dimension by passing through an alternative dimension superseded by a further alternative dimension... you know, maybe if I could read the plot in a metaverse, it'd flow better. Claymore is alright, and I've enjoyed reading/watching it, but seriously it's just a ripoff of Berserk.

really? how so? its gotten pretty good imo, but takes forever to progress....

have you been keeping up with it? like (spoiler) to the part where miria says that the continent where the claymores are at is just a testing ground and whatnot for their war somewhere else against the dragons+someone else?

Yeah, I've been reading it ever since the anime ended (sucks that they changed the finale of the series so they can never reconcile a second season with the manga). That part you said though is really the biggest thing that makes me feel like Claymore is almost supposed to be supplementary to Berserk, just as an explanation for where all the crazy monsters in Berserk came from. It's not at all perfect fit and I don't think the stories are intended to go together, but still. Claymore never really did enough to make itself unique.

The plot and characters just feel weak somehow.

In another direction, I'm -loving- Dogs: Bullets & Carnage. I've bought all the volumes they've got translated and the next one is on preorder; it's just... awesome. And The Breaker is keeping pace too.

yea me to, im so glad the old one ended....but the ending was terrible imo b/c it got boring from lasting so long, but w/e hopefully this one is better

and i am currently reading Eden No Ori, I'm enjoying it quite a bit even though the plot has been done before.

Akira and his classmates are travelling on a plane when it crashes onto an island inhabited by species thought to have been extinct. The situation becomes increasingly desperate as some of Akira's classmates are eaten alive, while some kill others in desperation. Now Akira and a few other survivors are trying to survive what seems to be a horrible nightmare.
