I can't see avatars

By Tnuac on 26/03/2009
They just come up as a line about 10 pixels thick. Sure, its better than nothing, but its crap.

Any advice?

Several things:

First, in direct response to the original poster, Try clearing your Browser Cache and Cookies (fairly simple procedure that varies slightly on the version of the browser you are using, can be more specific with more information)

Second, If you are intent on sticking with Internet Explorer (which I have absolutely nothing against), may I recommend IE8, its hot off the presses right now smile.gif

Third, (to the rest of you) Firefox is superior to Opera or Safari, get over it (Especially when you are like me and run the latest daily minefield builds of Firefox 3.6) tongue.gif

Anthony,

These forums ONLY work properly with FF, and are known to have problems with most others, thats why everyone is always telling people with tech problem that they should be using it.

The avatars have been an issue for a long time with IE7, I cant see robbie fixing it either.

Well, I try to make them work with standards-compliant browsers. I admit, for a while there was a major issue where something that worked in firefox didn't work in anything else. Once I found it, I had to redesign how I was doing things so I could remove that code.

When I was doing that, I made things -work- in ie6. That is, you can browse, view posts, and view the announcement box.

Some things, like this issue with avatars are more of a cosmetic issue and its priority is -really- low.

The issue is that, for whatever reason, the height value of all avatar images is blank. the width value is filled in properly, but the height is just an empty string(height='').
Firefox ignores it, IE seems to think that means '1'.

Do note that this issue was with the forum software when I installed it; I am not deliberately forcing people to Firefox.

I will admit that Firefox is made to work preferentially over other browsers, though that is because it is what I use and test(I also have ie6, but I never use it. Ever.)

Hope that explains things!
