[In Progress] Slayer Guide

By JC on 17/03/2008
The slayer guide only a few have seen or heard from me, made up by me and a few friends integrated with all of the new things and stuff.

Expected Level of achievement for those people who are going to work on slayer is 85, or 90. I'm currently working my way back up on the ends of 90.

Requirements
Equipment

-Guthans is almost a must. Makes tasks go quicker and banking seldom.
-Black Mask, Increases your attack and strength by 15% which is a powerful asset especially if you're super potted.
-Cannon and Cannonballs, probably the most devastating for Kalphites, Dagganoth and Black Demons.
-Fighter torso is also handy, especially when fighting

Stats

Most likely you'll want as high combat as you can get. But Slayer will offer you combat experience in turn.
Bones to Peaches, Very helpful for bloodvelds or other tasks that are risky to guthan and drop bones at 100%.

General Information

If you're starting slayer from below the level of 50, then you'll bolt through some of the tasks you get, and you'll also get some crappy ones if you use Duradel, for those below 50 slayer I recommend the use of Vanakka or the Fairy in The Lost City. For those above 50 and 100 cmb, you can use Duradel.

For the first few Levels he'll be a real bastard. You may get Iron dragons allot and some crappy low amount dragon task like 9-20 black dragons or 10-50 steels. Those you can ignore or choose to do if you'd like, I mainly passed them up with the motto "They're more trouble than they're worth." He tends to give out Kalphites and Infernals more than people think at the lower levels, so if you care to Keep those and do them, they're fast and easy.

Some of the tasks will get repetitive, I've had 5 gargoyle tasks in a row, and I was bored to death with them. But also there are Clues along the way that'll take your time and get your mind off the repetition. But once you hit 65 slayer you should lose most of the repetition and he'll start giving you the high velocity tasks.

Tasks to Ignore:

Kurasks.
Bane Rats.
Turoth.
Bronze Dragons
Black Dragons. (Optional)
Steel Dragons. (Optional)
Mithril Dragons. (He gives these VERY rarely. Optional.)
Jungle Horrors
Skeletal Wyverns

Tasks that can't be Traded or Burthroped:
Harpie Bug Swarms. (I got a left half from em.)
Cokatrice.
Cave Slime. (He gave me them once, and I cried.)

Good Tasks:

Infernal Mages
These guys are annoying, but easy XP. You'll need D-hide for them since they use Fire Blast as their attack. Bones to Peaches is helpful against them since they drop bones, but a Load of lobbies can take them out easy

Kalphites
You can kill the little wimpy ones, or be brave dawn your Guthan and grab a cannon and blast the hell out of the level 85 ones in the big room in the southern corner. Kalphites were part of my ranger experience through slayer and I got from 78-85 range via them and Black Demons. The Larger ones have around 60-70 hp, while the smaller ones have 20-25 Hp.

Hint: when you are leaving it can be worthwhile to collect the potato cactuses’ from around the walls of the level 85 room.

Bloodvelds
These are probably one of the best tasks you can get as they're easy XP both fighting and for Slayer, and they're very weak to melee and range. Wear D-hide and if you have, Bones to peaches with you. Best way of getting to them is via the Chain access which has a 61 Agility Requirement, Make sure you bring a nose peg and are at least 60 slayer if using the chain as it shortcuts you to the abby spectre room.

Basilisks
These are an easy and quiet productive task. They drop everything a green dragon drops except for the bones, hides and level 3 clues and the dragon items. You need a mirror shield to kill them, but they have great herb drops and rune drops. They're an easy kill at level 61.

Cave horrors
Wonderful task for the drop. D-hide is especially effective on them since they use a mage/melee attack and alternate. You'll need a witch wood Icon and to have a lantern with you to kill them within the cave. Bones to Peaches won't work here since they only drop big-bones, but you should do okay with one bank stop to drop loot and restock food.

Don’t forget your witch wood icon!

Jellies
They're an okay task for experience. You'll need D-hide to kill them and have a good amount of food in your inventory unless you want to loot bones from someone killing basilisks in the other room. They're good for drops, Rune full helms and clues are the most prominent and they can build up. Every helmet is a free 20-30k and they add up over time, so pick them up.

Aberrant Spectres
Probably one of the most annoying tasks, but easy and great for a herbalist. You can use prayer to kill them by praying mage, or d-hide with lots of food, either way you're going to end up banking, you need a nose peg to kill these, so no black mask for yoooo. They also drop black mystic bottom, rune full helms and the lava battle staff.

Don’t forget your nosepeg!

Dust Devils
A fun task that everyone loves. Great Xp both Cmb and Slayer wise, but also that little faint ideal that "HEY I COULD GET A D-CHAIN!". You need a face mask to kill them or be able to survive in the basement where they are, but it's not hard to do so. You can bring a cannon if you're impatient like I am and feel like ripping apart a task really quick. Nice XP either way, bring bones to peaches, even though they drop Ugathanki Kebabs, SCRUMMY!"

Please sub facemask for Nosepeg.... I didnt have one in my bank lol

Don’t forget your facemask!

Greater Demons
A favourite task of mine, useful especially for quick XP and combat. The best place to kill them Imo is in the Karamaja/Brimhaven Dungeon, Top floor right by the steps, though sometimes crowded, there’s 3. And the respawn rather quick. The only problem is the Dogs, they drop agro after a few minutes of killing them and the demons, so don't worry. You can either Guthan them or bring bones to peaches and kill the dogs for their bones. If you want as well, Greater demon cage in the Ogre enclave works for Range.

Don’t forget you need 875gp and an axe to use the Brimhaven dungeon!

Fire Giants
Easy quick task I usually do for laughs and for fun. You can kill them in the waterfall with melee or range or mage. Because there’s safe spots for all of them, but personally I like to go out to the Karamja Dungeon for them. You can either kill the ones on the Top floor north of the Greater demons up the path, or work your way further into the cave past the mossies and kill the ones in that little area. I bring guthans normally for those tasks, but you can take bones to peaches and kill the little dogs for their bones. Remember for the Dungeon you need an Axe and 875Gp. And for the Waterfall you'll need a Rope and Glaria's Amulet.

Gargoyles
Fun task, you'll need a Rock hammer to finish them off when they're "Red-barred". Good Drops since they drop the black Mystic top, rune helms and clues. Wear full melee gear and Guthans in invent. There’s a safe spot around one of the walls if you wish to Range them as well, but you'll have to stay back there, and at most you'll have to run out to bash them with your hammer anyway.

Don’t forget your rock hammer, I also suggest you wear a ROL in case you disconnect as they will not die unless you hammer them!

Nechryeals
Great task, but be careful, they're tough. They can hit pretty decent on you, and if you're not careful them and their little buddies could take you out easily if you don't watch your HP, full melee gear and guthans will work here. They drop Rune boots, and clues and other pieces. Who knew..? They're also easily ranged behind the Tables in the north western corner of the room. You can usually get 2-3 Nechs as they do run around the room a bit.

Basically this is just a rundown of the monsters you'll most likely encounter.

Tips and Ideas.

I started slayer at level 111. I trained Controlled via whip on slayer ending at 117 cmb. I had 97 attack, 95 strength and 93 defence. I forget where my HP was, and my range had gone from 77 to 85. 85 slayer is 3.2mxp. That's based off mainly of the monsters HP which you killed, this will sometimes differ on some monsters, but on most HP = Slayer Xp. Their HP is 4X whatever stat you train on, so say you've got 3.2m Slayer experience to gain, that's 12.8m into combat.

Some tasks will repeat Frequently, or you will get some over and over again, best way to get over this is take a Slayer Break. Slayer break is NO SLAYER at all. Means kill what you want, when you want, how you want, or just do something else, and then slayer will kinda fall back onto its place, but once you hit 83 slayer you'll be pushing' to get it up, Just don't get discouraged.

Clues are worth it too. I got most of my rune sets I had back in the day from Clues and drops. Clues will add up, and even if you get lucky, fund the further progress of your slayer level.

Slayer WILL cost you Money. Be it food, armour repair or cannon balls, Slayer's going to cost you some.

Hope this works for those working on Slayer, Thx.

-DT.

NOTE: I didn't include the newer monsters, because they're ****.

For the Abberant Specters, add that the Salve Amulet(e) works on them, so you cna sort of get your 15% boost.

Otherwise, very nice guide!
