That's the first three paragraphs from the top three introduction topics currently on the forums. THIS IS BAD! And so minimal? We had to actually write essays when I first joined up. At least that was a deterrent to anyone under 50IQ.

If only if only.

They're worse than moosetalk.
:>
By Randy on 04/04/2009
I've always hated that. It's basically a signal that they have no idea why they're applying.

It is annoying, reminds me of Chap when he talked.

I don't even post on EJ because I'd get castrated.

Same with XKCD, I got involved in ONE topic there and totally had my reasoning skills handed to me on a silver platter.

Haha funny shit
By David on 05/04/2009
I totally agree.
There was one intro I read where the guy said he was 14, which is about 8th grade. He couldn't even make a single sentence...
It's definitely a pet peeve of mine to see people completely butcher the English language. I could understand if the person is not American/English but the dude was from the USA and STILL couldn't structure a sentence.

+1
I don't think it's terribly difficult to at least use proper sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. They are trying to get into this clan. It's like a job interview. You want to look and sound your best. When I see this crap, I know they really don't know what they are getting themselves into, and I'm sure they don't care either.
By RobbieThe1st on 05/04/2009
I completely agree. I for one think we should implement a bit of this as some new and or changed rules; I looked at that EJ rules page and while I don't agree with -everything- there, I do think that we could take some ideas from them as far as what is acceptable and what isn't.
I would like the reimplementation of long applications, and the out-of-hand rejection of anyone who doesn't follow some simple guidelines on proper posting.
I will admit that this extra application work will reduce the number of applications, however with any luck what applications we do get will be people who care enough to help make WG a better place. This will also help the maturity level(WG is supposed to be all about the community, right?), and should effectively reduce the amount of flaming due to the above reason.
Just my 2c.

It is a very good point. They should structure their sentences at least in a clean way. It is almost disrespectful to post incoherently like that. To post at least something that looks like it has some effort would be nice. Few minutes more of time to write clearly shouldn't be that hard really.
By Nick on 05/04/2009
I really like how people that sometimes don't worry about the structure of their sentence really make the effort to write in complete, thought out sentences with decent, if not near perfect punctuation and grammar.

Lower the combat requirements, increase the maturity requirements, and add a defense requirement. My 3 cents.

Yeah though, I'm 20 and my patience for 10 year old maturity only goes so far. I'd love it if we got some more competent intros

By WG_Keanu on 04/03/2010
Dear god.
An old clan of mine had a requirement, "Must not be an asshole". Should add something like that. We're renowned for our community, and making a first impression as a retard is an insult to that. I don't think that intros/apps realise how important it really is to show that you're not some 10 year old with the maturity of a hedgehog when you apply for a clan.
By 30 Str 0wnz on 04/03/2010
Uhh, I joined when I was 13 and I probably had the same language and sentence skills as the example...and now I've been here 4 years or so and my grammar has dramatically improved.
At the moment we can't be so nitpicky towards our members as to deny them based on the amount of periods in their paragraph. Yes, before, when we had a 100 members we could really choose who we wanted and didn't want, but just like you can't only hire people graduating from Berkley if you are the manager of Taco Bell, you can't deny someone in WG because they dunt type gud, or at least, we shouldn't if we want to grow.
By Majeic on 04/03/2010
Shouldn't be based on grammar, but on effort.

how about we write an example application as a template for others to use?

An Example app? not something that looks like this
Example application?
By Eregion2 on 04/03/2010
I'm not implying we should immediately turn down anyone who uses a singular grammatical nuance incorrectly, but at the very least we should be saying "hey, welcome; please rewrite that so it's half-way legible."
