Russell Hood and Zombie Austen?

By Eregion2 on 21/04/2009
Two things I thought were interesting on today's paper:

1) Russell Crowe will be playing Robin Hood in a new movie coming out next year. Since it's directed by Ridley Scott, I suspect we can expect a healthy convolution of Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven (rumor also holds that Crowe will be double-acting also as the Sheriff of Nottingham, which would be a weird but kind of interesting if they pull it off - probably just a rumor though).

2) Some chap named Seth Grahame-Smith took Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice and revised it to include a zombie apocalypse (Pride & Prejudice & Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance -- Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!). 85% of the original novel is untouched, and it's currently no.3 in the New York Times Bestsellers list. I'm going to pick it up, definite kudos for the whole concept. dface-ani.gif

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies -- "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.

All that and 85% of the original novel is untouched, I want to read it just to see how he did it. biggrin.gif

I think Russell Crowe is going to make a terrible Robin Hood but I'm sure he'll be a good Sheriff.

I dunno, frankly I'm already a fan:

I'm more familiar with the original stories than any of the movies; I think he could do well.
