Denim vs Leather (Jacket)

Ok, got a question here so let me fill you in on the story first of all.
Two friends of mine got attack today after school. First one was Mike, got jumped by a gang of 15 people or so who were looking for my second friend, Rob. He was taken to A&E and had to have his face photographed by the police as evidence.
Second one was Rob, about 5 minutes later. There were 8 of them in the group that got him. He took several blows to the head and chest before escaping to his house, roughly at the same time his parents got back who tried to run his attackers over in a Vauxhall Zaphira, but thankfully they didn't. Around this time Mike's dad also went out to help Rob, but he took a punch to the head as well before the gang ran.
The police made 3 arrests but didn't catch the leader of the group. We're pretty sure that this isn't the end of it, and the leader's still looking for him. Me and 3 other mates are going to escort him home tomorrow as it's probable that a second attack's going to happen around that time, so I need to decide what jacket to wear.
LEATHER:
+ Very thick, it's gonna take some serious force to even feel a punch through it
+ Large surface area, also quite intimidating
- Very big and heavy, not good if we have to run
- Arms are quite baggy and movement is restricted (Eg. to swing punches)
DENIM:
+ Much lighter in weight
+ Short jacket but still intimidating
+ Allows a good range of movement
- Much less protective than the leather
- Blood stains are hard to remove
Opinions and thoughts are appreciated.

That's like saying come to a WG vs DI without a rune platebody. NO ONE goes into a fist fight where I live without a jacket
Although they'll probably use weapons like knives or sommat... you'd expect people like that to. If they do I've got my keys which I can put between my fingers in my fist... get them under the chin with that and they're fucked.
Be nice to pull a gun on one of em. That'd shit em up.

Just take a bloody baseball bat and smash them in the head. Or go all Anchorman on them and start swinging a chain around or whatever. Screw ethics, these pathetic gangs are messing with people's lives and they need a taste of what they're dealing. Unless you're being careful to not piss them off. Still, with 15 on 4 you're likely still not gonna have much of a chance with a fist fight, unless you're really good.
If you have to get into close contact, which is a bad idea anyway, i'd go with the leather jacket. If you're going jackie chan on them, you need all the movement you can get. Plus, I would've thought most blows would go to the head so it shouldn't make much of a difference should it?

Good on em. The more hospitalised these pricks are the better.
If you could give an insight it'd be good, because gang stuff isn't huge at all where I live, except a load of chavs who'd run off if you threw a stone at them. How far can you go before they get a vendetta on you and take revenge? How deep does the gang stuff lie? Just a group of kids, or a huge Mafia you don't want to mess with?
Guess a key thing is just to be as defensive as you can. Stand your ground but don't threaten if you can avoid it.

Leather but make sure it's loose enough so you can slip out of it and run.

First of all with all this going on I can't believe you're worried most of all about which jacket to wear lmao besides that I'd go with a baseball back like Mike said and/or leather jacket but they might steal it after they kill you and the last thing you want to do is give them something nice.

Well me n Ste came in today in denim... and had them both confiscated cause my school doesn't allow denim. Dunno why. So looks like I'm gonna have to go leather... they can't not allow leather, otherwise everyone would have to walk around barefoot.
Today after school nothing epic happened... Mike + Rob's dad were both waitin for them outside. Ste and I stayed back to get our jackets back, and by the time we got out Rob had gone. ANother friend at the bus stop said they sprinted off but they didn't see anyone after them... apparently nothing happened, but still not over yet.
