Are you asking about purchasing from iTunes?
Because I'd recommend not doing that at all. I've been an iPod owner for over two years, and all I can say is that I'm glad I've only spent $80 on the iTunes store.
I don't buy music anymore off of iTunes because of the DRM protection, which is more trouble than you may think. I want to be able to play my music on my 360 or with Audio Surf or any thing else that isn't freakin Apple-related. I didn't even really want my second iPod, I wanted a Zune, but because of a deal Best Buy had, and the fact that I have like eight albums with Apple's DRM protection, I went with another iPod. Freakin screw file protection.
Buy CDs used off of eBay or from music stores, used CDs are the way to go.
As for TV shows and movies, well... me and my friends rip them onto the computer from DVDs. Okay, so I'm anti-piracy, but damn Apple if I'm going to shove out $15 for a movie that I can buy used from my local games/DVD store for five bucks.

Go look around - there are a few programs that remove DRM from Itunes - I hear QTFairUse is one, and MyFairTunes is another.
One other idea - burn your album to CD, then rip that CD to wav/mp3(either to MP3, or to wav(i.e. direct cd rip), then convert to whatever format you want).

Why would you buy music? Get Limewire, I've spent $0 on 300 songs.

OK SO TORRENTS
I have downloaded my movies and they are .avi format. Where is the itunes folder to put video's i cant find it and when i say import my vid's from download section it does nothing....what do i do...

'Find anything you might consider dowloading onto your iPod on YouTube?
If so, try going to Vixy.net to dowload them (make sure to have it set to .MP4 when you click to download. Just go to the vid you want to DL, and then copy and paste it's URL.
After DL'ing... Go onto iTunes > Click 'File' > Click 'Import...' > Locate the .MP4 (it should be on your Desktop) > Click 'Open'.
It should appear in the Movies section of your iTunes.
Afterwards, sync it.
Sometimes the vid's don't always download... I'm no computer expert, so I really don't know how to get around it.
Also~
They recently did an update (check the top of the webpage)... so you can DL much faster than the original way (which, for me, took about 20 mins or more for 1 clip)... However, they might not work the first time you Import them onto your iPod... So you'll have to find the vid in the Movies section, right-click, and go to 'Convert Selection for Ipod/Iphone'.... Let it convert, delete the old file (you'll get the newer version of the vid after it's done Converting)... and sync. Viola
Hope it helps.

I tried both QTFairUse and MyFairTunes, had problems with both of them.
Ripping from CDs is fine, it's how I get my music from my friend who spends money like it's nothing on iTunes. But if you buy albums used you end up saving so much money anyways (and you have the music backed up), it's a win-win-win situation.
