Council Election Voting

It is a preferential voting system. After all votes are counted, the person with the least amount of first votes is eliminated. All votes for the person who got eliminated get redistributed to their second preference. Then the next person is eliminated and it goes on until we have a winner left who will assume the council position.

The location of the door handle on the door may vary between a few centimeters away from the edge of the door to the exact center of the door, depending on local culture, decorative style or owner preference. The distance from the edge of the door to the center of the handle is called the backset.

Doorknobs in particular can be difficult for the young and elderly to operate, if a person lacks a firm grip. For this reason door handles in most commercial and industrial buildings and in many households use a lever, rather than a doorknob, as the lever does not require as tight a grip. Levers are also beneficial on doors with narrow stile widths where the reduced backset leaves insufficient space to comfortably turn a doorknob.

Most household door handles use a simple mechanism with a screw-style axle (called a spindle) that has at least one flat side, which is passed through the door latch, leaving some length exposed on each side of the door to which the handles are attached. Some handles are attached on both sides by screwing or sliding them directly onto the spindle, and then securing one or more retaining screws (set screws) through the knob perpendicular to the flat of the spindle. Handles that lose traction can frequently be repaired by replacing or adjusting the set screw, which prevents them from slipping on the spindle. Other types of handles, typically used in Europe, slide onto the spindle but are affixed only to the door itself without use of set screws.

Extremely difficult to put in order. Number one choice was easiest then from there it was difficult. Problem is that everyone that applied is very capable and I love all of them. I had to reread the stuff you all wrote.

so ya its like.. 5:11 est how long could it take to count what? 50 votes?

It's preferential voting....
So that means now that I know which person/persons are in bottom place, I go back to the people who voted for them first and re-assign their votes to their second choice.
Then knock off the bottom place after that... etc until we have two places left.
That takes a while.

How exactly does this voting work out? Because you could do it like 5 different ways, Weight it, most #1's, most top #4's. You don't show us the votes anyways. But cant the current council just choose the way which would choose the 2 that you would want to work with?

I mean call me a conspiracty theorist, but this has just too many different possible outcomes from the same raw data. I think we should stick with the
"Vote for (insert number of council here) which you like best"

because that way it would be simple and we wouldn't have to worry about it. Ever since Stokenut posted about how council elections were rigged in the past it just has me questioning you guys, and how things are run.



EDIT: after re-reading and thinking about it, I guess it could work. But it would be much much simpler to just go with the old fashion way. This is just unnecessary work.

If you just kept track of the votes as they came in, it wouldn't be that hard to announce the council when the polls were closed. But I suppose that would make it too easy.

Should be able to do that in excel in like 5 minutes. But I haven't really thought it through so many not, lol. Might look at it later and see if I can make up a spreadsheet for it.

I did keep a track of it as it went along Nick.
