This Is How It Works

This is a VERY important announcement.
Don't miss any details.

Think of WG as a living organism that looks like a 6-legged starfish.
The picture above shows what each of those legs represents.
The leadership is the beating heart, and the members, the pumping blood.

Our limbs have withered away save 2.
I'm going to cover each of those limbs.

Warring Strength
It is hanging in there, because we do have 55 members which is better than 0.
But because we don't have enough blood pumping into our wars (members attending), this limb has withered away.
Once things turn for the worse, this is the first limb to wither.

Event Variety
Once you don't have enough members, you don't have events either. With no recruitment, and a shrinking clan, this limb becomes the second part of WG to shrivel up.

Recruitment
Larger clans don't have to recruit heavily. Neither did we when we had over 100 members.
The larger a clan gets, the easier recruitment gets too!
It's ironic that the smaller you get, the harder it is to recruit.
But that's why we're stuck... because we can't produce more blood to pump.
This arm is the third to wither.
After events and warring has gone down, so does recruitment.

High Morale
This has withered away too because we don't have enough members. This limb tends to wither after other arms have withered. It is the fourth arm to wither.

Close-Knit Community
This is the one that is on its way. After the other arms dry up and stop pumping, this one decays straight away. As you can see on our diagram, we're entering the withering stage of this one now. It is the second last limb to go.

Stability
The greatest asset WG has is its stability. We don't die. This will be the last limb for us to cling onto. It is the only thing that the inactivity cannot touch. So while the rest of us has decayed away, We will never lose this limb, and that is the best news.

________

Summary

Inactivity is a Cancer. It starts on one limb and decays it, and works its way through the others. A weaker clan would die, but WG, one of the most stable clans in the game's history, will not die, even if the cancer eats us down to our last limb.

EVERYTHING relies on the blood of WG. If there is no blood pumping into each leg of the clan, it falls down. All these limbs will heal themselves if we recruit. And the good news is that there is a recruitment limb - once we start recruiting, it gradually gets easier.

The Antidote
This brings me to the point I want to make.
The antidote is improving recruitment.
We've tried though, haven't we?
We can't get much further.

1. Requirements

This is why I am a strong advocate of lowering requirements.
We don't have enough going for us to be elitist.
We have to take what we can get.
Until our limbs grow back, beggars can't be choosers.
The requirements MUST be lowered.

2. Referrals

Imagine doubling our ML in 3 weeks.
All it would take is for each of us to refer 1 member in the space of 3 weeks.
3 weeks is enough to make a good friend and tell them about WG.
At 110 members, EVERY limb in WG would fully heal.
Imagine being completely healed in 3 weeks.
I am entertaining thoughts of writing up a checklist for every member.
I might even host another raffle for everyone who refers.
Winner gets a T-Shirt, or maybe something even better, like a $50 USD (or currency equivalent) gift voucher.
This is a work in progress. May consider giving a bonus to the referred members too.

3. Recruitment Team
Getting off your asses and recruiting people and stuff.
I should probably offer a similar reward, such as raffling off a prize.
But one thing is for certain, promotions will come faster to those who recruit.

4. Bringing back old faces
This will only happen if they see WG has something going for it.
We'd have to crack the 100 member mark before we see our old faces.
And even then, don't be too optimistic.
I had abandonment.
They will only be rejoining for the good times.
Where were they for the bad times?
Members like that are not worth too much attention, though it would be nice to have them back.

5. Recruitment movies
This is my thing, but until I am free, I can't finish that epic flash video I was working on.

6. An expansion of the public boards.
Attracting guests is a good step indeed.
Bringing interest to our boards will help.
Money buys this.
A monthly raffle of something or another will fix this.
New forums for clan discussion and shit, and a more detailed RS forum...
I'll get our new council to work on this

i've got my final exams over the next month then i'll try to return active again for a bit.

By Lee on 17/05/2009
I am with the lowering requirements thing, because we will then appeal to alot more people. Im going for 95+? 95 combat is hell easy to get. So yea. Do that. We can then basically do what TDM did to win wars. Just pull stupid amounts of people. x

By Zemus3654 on 17/05/2009
Sounds good, honestly i've been slacking on recruitment a bit, but recently (last week or so) i've been checking forums regulary + ingame n stuf, not much luck though.

By chip54321 on 17/05/2009
I'll try to recruit a few friends, haven't been pulling my weight there, I'll also try to host an event sometime in the next week too (probably corp. beast hunting).

By Tezza Rulz12 on 17/05/2009
I'll take the recruiting part seriously

By Chimpy on 17/05/2009
Lowering the reqs and Mass recruiting won't save us but doesn't sound like there's anything I can do to stop you.

By David on 17/05/2009
Whenever I train or do anything I always bring up WG and try to get them to visit the site.

RSC is a touch place to compete because we don't exactly have the greatest reputation there and we're constantly competing against other clans that do have good reputations.

Our only hope for decent recruitment is in-game and other forums. We could try making a RSB post and then telling them to add the people that are on our recruitment team and then tell them to visit our site and stuff like that?

By Nick on 17/05/2009
Mass recruiting can save us. If we each pull in 1 member, even if 50% of those members stay, that is another 25 members to our memberlist. Then if those people are encouraged to bring in 1 of their friends, 50% of that would bring in 12 more members. At that point we have risen 75% in our memberlist.

I will personally train every new person in the art of warring and tanking, one on one, or whatever it requires. I make this my oath, and if you find someone that needs to learn how to tank, send them to me. Everyone is saying "LALZ LOW LEVELS CAN'T TANK!!@!@ LOLZ" when that is not true. I came into WG not knowing how to tank, not knowing how to war, and I got voted best tank under 110 combat... :S

All someone really needs is a little one on one time with another lower level. If they are higher level, then it will make it easier, but still.. they can get KOed. The thing is, new members in WG are not seen as a new person, well entirely at least. We see them as a "noob" that "doesn't know how to tank" or "is just active to get past their trial period". Fuck the generalizations. We have to break through it.

On the topic... great explanation Gene. The only thing is, as members of WG, we have to fix what you pointed out instead of just looking at your words and your picture as if nothing is going wrong.

In my initial post, I said beggars can't be choosers.
100+ reqs are what it takes.
Your own suggestion topic says "make it easier to get into WG"

By George on 17/05/2009
Ah what a good analogy , it works really well.
So let's get cracking on this.
I suggest you lower the Reqs as soon as you possibly can, if you do that I can refer two more people momentarily...
Secondly- (suggested before)- we need to set up a leader of the recruitment team- NOT a staff member, someone chosen for their capabilities.
Someone who will keep recruitment going, ensure that people are pulling their weight etc.

~George

By His Lordship on 17/05/2009
If you have people to refer, inform them that we are temporarily ignoring the reqs.
We are abiding by 100+

By DZ on 17/05/2009
Interesting analogy, is really logical actually. Not only do I think that recruitment is a solution, but getting the current 'blood' we have 'pumping'. Basically if we can get the members we have now active and eager to help things will flow much more smoothly.

Yeah but I don't really agree with it after I thought about it for awhile.

Whatever, I guess it's worth a shot, if it doesn't I can make my own I told you so topic hash.png

I agree completely...lower requirements, then when they join encourage them to train up.
You can join low, but that doesn't mean you have to stay a lower cmb level. We have plans in place to help people be stronger.

overall review and strategic approach.

my only question is...inactivity for new recruits are high.
the truth i'm getting to is that we don't offer incentive to allow the newbies to stay.

two ways i see this encouraging is one on one interaction using the mentorship system. (which i had during my time and helped me thru one month on trial)

having a timetable for newbies to guardians. in which case from the moment a newbie places an intro we should take that date and set a goal date and do everything possible to lend a hand if that person is willing to cooperate. if not then we let that person go at it on their own.

events are very important, especially those that don't involve going to get yourself owned for cash. in all honesty if we pvp for the gp it dosen't make us any better than gamblers nor those that search only for wealth. orientation is key and for the new guy they need to be introduced to the members, i spend 1 month (trial-guardian phase) knowing only three members, mickie, arsenalfan, and sonixpher.

as with his lordship strategic indicates, if we take care of our ourselves by rewarding daily for what to some elitest call "average" and take care of our new recruits.

as for warring strength. i'm training to maxed meele. meanwhile i'll join sniper unit and train to become a sniper. as a sniper ill face heaven and hell to protect you guys wink.gif

It has an amazingly high fail rate, but through sheer amount of numbers it works out in the end. People from TL can attest to this. hash.png

Please tell me you're joking.

We go through the same shit over and over.

We raise reqs, we lower them, we go through a period of drama until many members leave, then we raise reqs again, we try to appease everyone and divide the clan, we eventually form into sectors, everyone realizes what a dumbass move sectors were and move to unify again. We don't have stability, we NEED stability. You and the council introduce new policies all the time and go back on your word:

ie: Bans

By His Lordship on 19/05/2009
What the fuck are you on about?
We had sectors once and never again.
Hardly cyclic.

If it were up to me I'd NEVER raise reqs but we keep getting new members who think they know better, so I'm pressured into raising them so they can see how stupid it is, and then they go back down.

When I say stability, I mean it. We're one of the oldest clans and while we go through massive slumps, we never lose the sense that we're going to keep going.

There's no joke about what I said.

By lamajam on 19/05/2009
can i suggest somthing,

we could hold big public events for skilling etc, perhaps some people arnt interested becouse there into skilling and pvp side of the game and may think we are all about pvp,

A very nice diagram. I am perfectly fine with lower combat levels but I suspect that there is a growing number of people who do not want to join clans. I have no proof just a general feeling.

But anyways, all my frands are skillers/don't pvp/anti-clan....so yeah...

By Sirxxxsml94 on 21/05/2009
I agree with the "recruit a friend in 3 weeks" thing. It would really help the clan, and would "pump blood" in all the other limbs. It's sad to say, but a clan's activity lives on numbers, not community.

I've been here for about 2 weeks..
