The Greatest Film Music

By His Lordship on 22/05/2009
I just wrote a jizz-in-your-pants Lord of the Rings Style war march.
Think Morder invading Gondor.

NOTES:
1. Took one night to compose - 6pm-5am then 10am-11am (12 hours)
2. University orchestra performed it, I conducted
3. It starts soft, so adjust your speakers accordingly
4. The following instruments are missing:
- 3 other French Horns
- 2 other Trumpets
- About 10 violins
- 8 violas
- 4 double basses
- 1 Flute
- 1 Bassoon

The other thing I wrote is based on this image:

Look at that picture as you listen to this ambient piece.
There's a lot of symbolism. The solo flute at the start is a lone traveller.
It's supposed to depict the eeriness and the grandeur of this ruin.

NOTES:
1. Took a week to compose (12 hours in total)
2. University orchestra performed it, I conducted
3. It is very ambient. There are sci-fi effects and stuff.
4. The following instruments are missing:
- 3 other French Horns
- 2 other Trumpets
- About 10 violins
- 8 violas
- 4 double basses
- 1 Flute
- 1 Bassoon

She didn't practise :S
It was just a lack of confidence.

Sounds sexy. Start sounds like im stalking my next victim. Next bit is like im wooing them, offering her out for coffee. Next but is a bit more sinister. Like the rohypnol bit. Where I drug her. Next im carrying her along the river bank. Now im dragging her in a bush. Then, the evil deed is done, and I orgasm. She wakes up half naked in a bush..

The first song sounded good, I totally heard the LotR reference in the music, but the end sounded more like Darth Vader was coming to get the resistance or something... Not saying that its bad, since its quite the opposite, I'm just pointing out what I think I heard. The second piece seemed a little short for me, but its hard to make something sound creepy/sinister like you did for a long time... Overall, very cool.

These are great, I miss playing around with music, as soon as I get my laptop I want to carry on learning whatever I can. I'm pretty limited with this 6 gig hard drive and linux os.

Very nice Gene.

MORE HORN...you can never have enough epic horn parts.

Also, pretty much the whole brass section needs to practice more. I dunno how much they got in before this recording, but it sounded unrehearsed at best. If this was like a one time take, then it wasn't bad at all..so don't think I'm bashing on you guys =P

I think the strings could have been involved more too. Flowing violin and viola parts coupled with driving bass parts can really set a mood and allow the brass to come in for the extra punch. neko2.gif

I did enjoy it though and I realize that there was a decent-sized chunk of the orchestra missing.

I'll listen to the second piece later. tongue.gif

The picture scares me. I don't suppose you have a high-res version of it anywhere? I could do with a new desktop background.

In honest opinion I don't think that the music portrays the imagery as well as it could, but I suppose that could be down to the limited instruments which give a small hint of over-simplicity. In any case, for a university piece it's really good and uncompareable to anything I've heard from that level or skill... and apart from the dynamics which could be a bit smoother at points, I have no complaints. 9/10, pretty amazing in all aspects of film music.

I liked the bassoon part in the picture piece when it went into the chromatics, it made me feel as if I were walking up the stairs and am now standing in front of the huge doors.
