The Game predates it's internet usage by several years, although there's an anticipated relation to the Hash Cult. I know Sam and I were both initiated several years before it became an internet fad. It's actually very hard to initiate someone over the internet, since before you can tell anyone the details of The Game they have to solemnly swear to play it for the rest of their lives. There's always a question online if whether someone will be serious about it, or generally trustworthy enough to be trusted with the profound knowledge of The Game. (There's an escape clause that if the Prime Minister of Great Britain loses the game on live television then everyone wins; presumably this would also hold true for an American president).
