God Hates Fags

Group of baptist extremists. We knew they were coming to protest near our school because of our "Gay Straight Alliance" club (Which has what, 5 members? Rofl)

At the time of this post they are still protesting.. this is what they had to say about us:

I didn't see the actual protest, but the whole thing was funny. I saw the counter-protest, consisting of about 150 students from my school. Some signs read: "OUR SIGNS ARE BIGGER THAN YOURS," "LOL," and "I <3 MEN"

I never lol'd harder in my life than when I saw what a great sense of humor my school has.

And apparently we should also stone children who don't obey their parents? That's in the Bible, but I have a feeling if everyone did that we'd all be dead.

Look, if we're allowed to take it out on extremist evangelicals who take themselves too seriously, you're fair game too (because you don't have a clue what you're talking about, seriously).

The pre-Roman Judaic governing system was very family oriented. Effectively most villages were at most three very large families ruled by patriarch figures. Also, given the times, their laws were very, very strict. So yeah, under the circumstances if you disobeyed your dad (or your granddad), you might very well be executed for it. But that wouldn't have included not eating all your dinner or staying out to play too late, etc.

Of course it's stupid and illogical to follow all the things written in there because of when it was written. That is in fact my point. I'm horrible with wording sometimes =/

Just saying if insane people like this are going to follow one thing written in the Bible that is obviously based on prejudice and a lack of understanding of gay people, then why not follow all the insane laws.

They said they would come to protest at UVA because of our production of The Laramie Project but they never came. However, we had a big anti-protest and made the local news.

Well let's see the old testament was written...well over 2000 years ago, but I don't know an exact date since there's really no proof for that. The new testament was written soon after Jesus' death so we'll say 2000 years ago. Compare that to the Constitution written as you said about 230 years ago. It's just a little bit closer in time. Also, I don't really believe the Bible was written by God or anything. Most likely in my opinion, it was written by the ruling class as a way of gaining control and fear and power. The Constitution however was written by a group of intellectual, secular men who knew what they were doing (however hypocritical about freedom they might have been). The Constitution, I believe, outlines the basic rights we as humans have, which is a bit different than preaching something that, to you or me, might or might not be true. Comparing a work of mythology to a legal document is not really a fair point.

And of course I believe we should follow the Constitution. Where'd you get the idea I wouldn't?

I'll put in two things I have to say here:

1. The Constitution is a general set of laws, we can make amendments (although as Mike Gravel wanted I think they should be voted for).
2. The Constitution isn't and shouldn't be followed strictly, it was written by a bunch of wealthy white men in a time with different social constructions.
