Post Wars

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
This was a rough idea that popped into my head.
I was thinking about playing games with our post counts.
Think Kings of Chaos or something.

The aim is to dominate the post counts of these forums...
The post count acts as points which you can spend.
You have to try and reduce other peoples post counts to 0 while defending your own post counts from attack.

Only willing members may take part in it, and these members will have a participation underbanner in their sig.

A few types of moves and their prices:

Attacks:

Strike - You pay 2 posts to take 3 posts off another member
Twin Strike - You pay 5 posts to take 3 posts off two different people
Theft - You pay 5 posts to GAIN 4 posts from another member
Robin Hood - You pay 3 posts to transfer 5 posts from the highest poster to the lowest
Gamble - Pay 6 posts and select a target. The target will lose 0-9 posts, chosen at ramdom.
Spy - Pay 3 posts to view an opponents defenses
Siege - Pay 3 posts to knock out a chosen enemy defense. Super defenses excluded.

These attacks will be deflected if the enemy is defended, and you lose the posts you paid.

Super Attacks:

Topic Shock - Pay 20 posts. Every poster in a chosen topic loses 1 post per post made. (HoR excluded)
Super Theft - Pay 50 posts to GAIN 40 from another player
Super Siege - Pay 30 posts to destroy one super defense.
Mega Siege - Pay 50 posts to destroy all of an enemy's defenses.
Kamikaze - You pay 600 posts to knock a member down to 0 posts

Defenses

Block - Pay 1 post to be protected from a single attack, but not super attacks. Lasts 3 days or until used, whichever comes first.
Shield - Pay 2 posts to be protected from a single attack, but not super attacks. Lasts until used.
Deflect - Pay 6 posts to send a single attack back at the attacker. Not super attacks.

Super Defenses

Fortify - Pay 20 posts to shield yourself from a single attack including super attacks. Lasts until used.
Super Deflect - Pay 30 posts to send a super attack back at the attacker.
Force Field - Pay 40 posts. Block all attacks including super attacks. Does not go away until sieged.

More attacks and defenses may be added over time. These ones will start it off. If an attack is not popular, or too popular, prices may be adjusted.

---------------------

Rules:

1. When you enter the game, you receive 10 posts
2. When you choose to leave, you must pay 10 posts
3. There are limits on attacks: 2 attacks and 1 super attack per day
4. Attacks cannot be saved. They must be used immediately at purchase time
5. There are limites on defense purchases: 3 defenses and 1 super defense per day
6. Any participating member can only be attacked up to 5 times a day. After this, you may not attack a member until the following day.
7. You may not attack members who are not participating.
8. Members cannot go into negative posts.
9. All purchases for defenses and attacks will be made in secret... there is a bluff component to this game... you may be able to make other members waste posts.
10. When you join, you are immune for 1 day so you may purchase defenses. You may not attack in this time either.
11. ALL ATTACKS ARE ANONYMOUS.

----------------------

How it will work:

A level 3 sub-forum will be made and all participating members will have topics made for them in there. These topics will show all the defenses the player has purchased. When a member is spied on, the contents of this post will be copied and given to the attacking player. When an attack is sent, the appropriate defenses will be taken out. When there are no defenses, the post count will be removed.

Mods and leaders will be given the ability to alter the post counts. Send a request to them, preferably live over the IRC or TS. Ask a mod if possible, because the leaders are busy. App managers may also edit posts. However Leaders, App Managers, and Mods cannot compete, and they cannot give away defenses for free.

If you have a defense knocked out, you will be notified in the IRC, or if you are not present, forum PM.

----------------------

What's the point?

1. It will make visiting the forums more fun.
2. It will encourage posting since posts can be used as ammo.
3. It gives mods work. Mods don't do too much since WG does not abuse the forums or IRC often.

Any comments?

Lmao that would we well cool. I'd certainly be up for it.

By ArSeNaLfAn32 on 23/03/2008
Sounds crazy. I'd have to think about it.

Ah but the people with low posts will be attacked less.
Trust me it's fair for everyone.
Plus with low posts, nobody would want to super attack you.

By JC on 23/03/2008
I love the idea however I can see it causing problems. some people spend hours if not days working on their post count to remain in the top page/top post count....

There is a huge risk this will just mean that the top ten's post count will get targeted which wont be good sad.gif

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
That's why there are limits per day.
And plus we'll have low tolerance for spams.
If you spam you lose 5 posts per spam.

I'd super attack him to spite you lordy biggrin.gif

No, but if you are disliked, well... You are unlucky sad.gif

I like the concept, being a competitive person I am, but this can draw some harsh rivalries.

It would be between those who have signed up for it. I don't think they should be able to target those not in the game.... But it does sound interesting.

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
Zeke it's all anonymous.

They wont be able to. If you don't sign up for the game, you can't be targeted.

I'd like to see what saad thinks of this.
He spams hard for his post count hash.png
I'd be up for it, interesting idea tbh.

I understand what you mean by that, but like... Being anonymous its just like... HA I just kamikazee?'d you and you lost all your points!

Whats the fun in doing something like that if you can't even show off you did it?

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
It will show because your post count is down by 600 and they can figure it out...

I suppose, but you cant just brag about it cause it's anonymous. Or if you do, anyone can.

It just seems like... why sit there waiting twiddling your thumbs for them to notice instead of bragging?

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
I mean, you can if you want
But you have the RIGHT to remain anonymous.

Hmm I suppose that is a good thing...

But I just thought it would be cool somewhere to see like

"And Papatewiki kamikazee's His_Lordship for 600 Points, reducing His_Lordship's Points to Zero!"

Eh...

By His Lordship on 23/03/2008
Well I'm actually not eligible.
Anyone with ability to change post counts or view the game sub-forum is not eligible.

Wether you are or not is irrelevant, you see the point of my post?

By Squelchyfish on 23/03/2008
I have played some of these before :/ they are well fun and will make people use the forums more.

By General199 on 23/03/2008
Maybe there can be your post count for the game and then another post count to keep track of your total post count that you have actually posted!

By Pseudomage0 on 23/03/2008
looks like it would be quite fun

By Snowzak on 23/03/2008
Could be fun - but I hope it doesn't give too much work to the Tertiaries hash.png

I like this idea.

Possible at all?

By Kwaichi on 23/03/2008
I have a question.. what if i send Kamikaze on Indivi2you and he will have superdefence: Force Field. Will i lose 600 posts and he will be protested from it ? confused.gif

By Pazenon on 23/03/2008
I like this game idea, it seems fun. But, it would be a better, more fun & less rivalry-related issues game if we used something called 'points' which are simply designated to serve the purpose of this game; instead of using the post count system.

If he's got a super defense, you lose your 600 posts for nothing, which is why you have to take down his defenses first.

If he's got a super deflect... the attack goes back at you so not only do you lose your 600 posts, but also all your other posts as well.

And um, it's too hard to get another system because then we'll have to devise a scheme to earn points... whereas if we use post counts, you get points by posting.

By Karlfischer on 23/03/2008
Lol, great idea and very well thought out.

It might be a good idea to keep two post counters though, one hidden that does not change, and one that is visable and for the game. I just see a problem with determining clan ranks if there is not this separate hidden post count.

By Gibble00 on 23/03/2008
Lol Lordy, you made it into a deep game, too much goin on there tongue.gif

I'll stay out of it since I don't post in many of the RS-related topics anyways.

But hey, if it gets other people posting, let it roll.

By Indivi2you on 23/03/2008
milklaugh.gif, this would be so interesting... My hash.png post count can be changed in a matter of days/minutes tongue.gif

Hehehe, i like the idea.

By Mickey on 23/03/2008
Nice game Lordy. I might particiepate tbh, but I might not.

By Zlatan83 on 24/03/2008
Will Mods get ACP if the game is on - because we won't be able to change the post counts.

By His Lordship on 24/03/2008
Mods will be given *some* ACP like app managers.
Enough to edit member details.

By Spicy63 on 24/03/2008
Interstingly thought out.
I'd participate.

By Mr Death 13 on 25/03/2008
Interesting, looks cool, I don't know if I would do it though omghash.gif.png
