Need some Interior design advice

By sgtswordfish on 19/06/2009
hey guys. got in alittle bind this evening. mainly due to the fact that i might get my internet installed but haven't actually moved all my stuff.

for all of you wondering. yes, over the past 3 months i've set up preparations for myself and family (mom, step-dad, and alot of kids ) in order to survive the recession that has taken place. its quite a drag although we joke around about how my parent's are moving in with me (don't tell them that or they will kill me)
i still say its my mother's home until the year comes for me to hand it over to a more worthy suitor (with a nice cash bonus *gulp* i hope)

in any case. here is my dilema....

i have a 10x 10 room..perfect square with a small 3x6 closet and 2 windows. the closet would face south. entry door south east, and a west and north window perfectly alligned in the middle. with that said this is what i've brought with me.

1. 10 pairs of clothes (donated all my clothes and decided to keep my work atire)
2. 2 pair of shoes (work and running)
3. small refrigerator (for my drinks and late night snacks. lazy)
4. a king sized bed (too bad i'm the only one sleeping on it =P)
5. a bookcase full of books

with that being said i have so much room left..i'm planning on having a room that dosen't look cluttered but has my needs when i need them. this calls for what i want out of my room.

i want to sleep and be able to get up and off the bed from either side. this bed is huge and the height difference just so happens to be. well, its like jumping off a plane without being that high =P

i would like to know what to place on my fridge. more importantly wherever it is beneficial to place it on a corner or somewhere out of the way. or should it be visible to guest. the truth is. i have 2 little brothers. the last thing i want is them getting caffeine rush or worse. wasted =P

my books. i hate bookcases. anyone got any bright ideas?

clothes. yes, i have 10 work clothes..not going to change but i can at least have some normal clothes. with that said i'll most likely need a WG shirt to complement my new room. but most importantly what to wear and when to wear it.what is truly necessary?

and lastly. i want to be able to read, work out without bulky equipment. and to have advance technology at my disposal....i was thinking of a server.
add gaming rs exp. i might as well build my own pc.

and last but not least. i need a way to get out the house without causing much arousal. if one thing that is worse about living with ur parents is no more nightlife.

not that i need it but i need to be able to go out someday =D

if u think a jetplane outside my window is the way to go..add it. no idea is too small....

p.s. u can add anything else u migh think will benefit me in the long run.

thank you!

Fridge in the corner opposite from the door. Bed beside that, so that the fridge can double as a nightstand. Computer on the other side of the bed.

Since you won't need as much closet space, IF NEEDED, take off the doors, shove the fridge in there and the bed up against it. You can use the other half for clothes. Alternately, if your shelf fits in there, put that in there. Or buy another shelf that does. Or use the cheap shelf of cinderblocks and boards.

Buy one of those fire escape ladders that store in a box under your window. If you really need to sneak out that would work well.

I suggest no lamp on stands. Either a floor lamp that will bend to give you reading in bed or one of the ones that hang from the ceiling. Your surface space will be limited so use it wisely. Even a wall mounted one would work.

Tear the book shelf apart and use it as hanging shelves for the books up close to the ceiling. That area is wasted space anyway. Use some interesting natural rocks for bookends, if needed. You could paint the wood some interesting color to match your curtains and comforter.

I think taking the doors off the closet may be good if you truly don't need a lot of shoes and clothes. Buy some of those crates and place on their sides for storage as shelves and stack them. You may be able to turn the closet into a computer center. Putting a counter top in there or something to keep your space a little more open. Call a local kitchen remodeling company and see if they can sell you a two foot section or something.

Maybe a lock on frige.

Go to Walmart and buy the risers for the bed. You get like 8 inches or so lift by placing them under the four corners of your bed. This gives you immense amount of under bed storage. I have the plastic container on wheels under mine to hold like accessories.

Most importantly . . . get a puppy to share the bed. Remember cats will eat fish. That could mean a lot of trouble for you. You're such a nice Fishy. trout.gif
