Password Constantly Stolen
By 30 Str 0wnz on 07/07/2009
Alright so I've had my WoW (yes I know world of warcraft eww) account hacked constantly for like 4 weeks now and I finally gave up and quit. I've scanned the computer with the following programs:
AVG
Avast!
Spybot Search and Destroy
Hijack This! (found one thing and got rid of it)
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
I have Windows XP
I've checked my hosts file and found nothing suspicious.
I forget what command I typed in to CMD to see which connections were using my connection or whatever and I saw a 007guard.com IP trying to connect like 20 times but Spybot S&D has supposedly blacklisted it.
It seems nothing's been stolen except world of warcraft information and possibly email information.
What are the chances I have a keylogger/another password jacking program on my computer?
Sorry if it's over most people's heads.

And that's bad?
Lol someone seriously hates you... unless you have some stupidly easy password chances are pretty high.
Get rid of all the antivirus shit except AVG, because you don't want more than one running believe it or not. If you want to pay for somenthing, I reccomend Kaspersky, cause that's worth it if it works. Check for updates, then rescan. Make sure you have your firewall up and running, then recheck your connections. Play WoW for a bit then wait a few days. If that fails, do a system restore.

changed my password at least 10 times, using totally nonsense words with capitals and lowercase with numbers. I had AVG alone first and then dl'd the other ones when it scanned cleaned went and got my stuff back and got hacked again. System Restore wouldn't work because System Restore doesn't actually uninstall programs, and if it is some .exe it won't do anything to stop that. Not really in the situation to buy an anti-spyware thing.
Don't think he hates me because he's not deleting my characters or anything, plus I have no real enemies, but he's getting free gold (or was) when I finally thought I was clean and transfered some of the gold back over. Windows Firewall is running with no exceptions at the moment, and I even put up selective startup to make sure nothing's loading up and still got hacked.
Right now I'm kind of enjoying not having to play anything and actually having a good social life lol, but it seems kinda a waste to have 4 level 80s that some hacker has and can use. So I guess it's more revenge to the hacker than for me to play. Plus having something malicious on your comp to begin with isn't exactly the most comfortable thing to have.

Yeah very true.
At that stage I'm completley fucked, and I would just buy a new hard drive

Best of luck figuring it out, cause I can't

Yea, I was thinking about reformatting my hard drive, but wanted to try and fix it before I have to install 24 hours worth of programs etc.

yea... never use system restore on a virus.

Are you sure someone isn't just guessing your password?

Yeah but it's such a jewel when you've been forced to get rid of all your porn when your dad catches you bustin a load at 2 AM

You over share information much? lol
By sgtswordfish on 08/07/2009
the best way to take care of the problem is via the source. wow is downloaded on ur computer, its possible wow itself has been tampered.
the next step is to move onto ur hd. and if that fails then its possible someone has remote access..

thought of that (WoW files being corrupted). Re-installed. Nothin. Only problem with the next steps is I don't really have any options left other than reformatting

If I reformatted I'd have NOTHING LEFT

Just copy what you really need to keep onto some CDs/Pendrive/External hard drive - that's what I did.

Try spyware doctor. Might work. I know it got rid of all the spyware and trojans that messed my computer up a few months back. Should be able to get rid of a key logger.

You QUIT WOW? I didn't know that was possible.
I don't really have much else to suggest; some types of malware aren't detected by antivirus programs but it looks like you've used several malware-specific programs as well.
Have you considered split-persona schizophrenia?
PS: Epic passwords btw, even better than mine.

Ha, well I knew 941326584136 from an old pure account I had and randomly memorized the name a long time ago.
As far as the split personality thing, I was wondering what all those dead bodies were doing under my bed and waking up with my hands bloody every night...
I'm trying Spyware Doctor now, we'll see if it finds anything.
By Kecooler on 11/07/2009
Tbh I'd seriously go with the reformat, because if you've gotten this far and problem's still not solved it's one hell of a keylogger or something else's up.
