'Arry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

By Eregion2 on 15/07/2009
Very, very well done. They've improved on the lore and society of the wizarding community exponentially; very small things but it adds up to give a much more compelling world. In a word everything was brilliant.

A word of warning though, from those who read the books and are anticipating this.
There's no huge battle over Hogwarts; I know, I was looking forward to it intensely but it never happened. In all though it fits well with the rest of the film and the time constraints; the death eaters strike quick and then make their getaway without taking on the entire school; but fuck all, I wanted to see some death eaters bleed
.

By Colinwarrior on 15/07/2009
Are you kidding me? It sucked. It was a teenage romantic comedy with some magic thrown in.

Btw, SEVERUS SNAPE FOR WORLD EMPEROR.

By Kecooler on 15/07/2009
Thought the battle happened in book 7, not 6 blink.gif

I might re-read the whole series, I've completley forgotten.

Best one yet for sure.
Was riveted to my seat.

Going to see it in an hour.

With style Steve, with style.

I was disappointed...

Reading your spoiler that is exactly what I'm most disappointed with.

By His Lordship on 15/07/2009
r u srs?
I loved it.

By Eregion2 on 15/07/2009
There was also one other thing that I was surprised about. When Drako confronts Dumbledore he just says that if he fails Voldmort would kill him. Really his whole immediate family would have been murdered if he failed, if I remember the book right. That would have made his position considerably more compelling, in that his parents were also in mortal danger, not just him
.

By Tnuac on 15/07/2009
I'm disappointed about the same thing, and my mate really was. Bit of an anti-climax. Rest of it was pretty good though.

By DZ on 15/07/2009
Typing in black for potential spoilers...
I don't like the way they did Dumbledore's death. Wasn't accurate to the book at all. As Harry is below Snape comes up to him and puts his finger to his mouth? I thought that was stupid. The way in the book was much better. I wish they would stick to the book more often. The only part I did like about this scene was the "Severus, please" by Dumbledore and how they paused and looked at each other before Snape dealt the killing blow.

Was also hoping they would put the funeral in there.

And is my memory misleading me, or was the part at the Burrows when Bella and Greyback set it on fire made up?

Also, the Dark Mark was at the school before Harry and Dumbledore arrive, not caused by Dumbledore's death.

Oh well I guess I just expected it to be too much like the book.
By Tnuac on 15/07/2009
I don't see why they stray from the book so much tbh. Why not stick to it? Its great as it is =s

Argument I long agree with for all films. After all, you only get to watch the film once before you've seen it, so who gives a fuck if staying by the book makes it several hours long? I for one wouldn't give a shit.

It especially ruins films like LoTR and so.

Ah.

I haven't seen it anyway, I might go this weekend. Haven't been to the cinemas since Hot Fuzz.

By Samurai-JM on 16/07/2009
meh, 6 is more of a story filler for 7. it was more comedy and story leading up to the *SPOILER* horcruxes/battle at hogwarts */SPOILER* than anything else.

*SPOILER* the battle takes place across pretty much all of the end of book 7(deathly hallows) and harry joins the fight just in time when he blows up all the horcruxes if i remember correctly. the skirmish that happened with malfoy/death eaters at the end of 6 was not the big battle. */SPOILER*

By Kecooler on 16/07/2009
when he blows up all the horcruxes?

What the fuck have you been reading? laugh.gif

By Samurai-JM on 16/07/2009
nothing rly, havent read it since it came out. what does he do before he comes back to hogwarts in the last book? xD

Wonders around with Hermione in a tent for half the book, almost gets killed by Voldemort as per usual, Ron fucks off at some point and comes back later as per usual, etc.

Breaks into Gringotts
Visits his hometown
Gets captured by Death Eaters, taken prisoner and nearly dies
Finds the real Sword of Gryffindor
Etc

A friend of mine nearly jumped out of his skin when the hand shot out of the water and grabbed Harry. biggrin.gif I did too though, to be fair. Overall I'm amazed they managed a PG rating for it all.

Yea I shit myself when the hand popped out. I expected it, but still was scary hashdown.gif.png.
The fire effects were pretty epic, though there wasnt really much action in this book.

Yeah, that was awesome. It was like an inferno from hell. biggrin.gif Seemed like it was over pretty quickly though; I'll have to go see it again to enjoy the moment. laugh.gif Really makes me look forward to the wizard battles coming in movies seven and eight.

Oh it's gonna be great for me, being slightly lethargic laugh.gif

Some guy on Dumbledore being gay:

Too many books, too many films for me. Ain't bothering to watch it.

By Kecooler on 19/07/2009
Just got back from the cinemas. The film was nothing compared to the book. I expect more from the #7 films.

By Eregion2 on 19/07/2009
It still kicked the snot out of the last five movies though; and I'm epic glad they gave their relationships a bit of an edge; in the book it was all like "omg I hates you you're not dating me" and they don't talk to each other for like, 250 pages. In the movie they managed to make it a bit more intense and far less childish.

By txtawkin on 19/07/2009
I rly liked the movie, but its been ages since I read the book so I am not sure just what they changed? unsure.gif

Yeah. Nothing better than going watching a film full of teen romance at the cinemas WITH YOUR MUM.

/sarcasm

Txt, they stayed close to the book but left a fuckload out.

Oh ffs hasn't this kid graduated already? Come on how long has he been there. They should start calling him Harold.

Funny people ftw haha.

By Eregion2 on 21/07/2009
The actors will all be 21-22 by the time the last movie comes out; kind of funny imo. happy.gif
