Skills Olympics 2009

By George on 23/07/2009
Hey guys,

Well as you probably know, we try and hold the Skills Olympics every summer where we skill for a week and destroy another clan.
(In 2007 we defeated BoS and in 2008 we crushed TDM by doubling their exp gains for the entire week).

I hope that this year (2009) we can ANNIHILATE TBE.
I have pm'ed Pugsi (TBE Main Event Coordinator) and I am awaiting his reply.

The basic idea:
http://www.wildernessguardians.com/forum/i...?showtopic=4854

I think TBE would work really well...
I know i'm no longer an event leader, but I really enjoy doing this and I was wondering if I could be in charge of it again this year (along with Vephy,David,Groe,Saad etc)

Also... last year we didn't allow construction + herby... Should we allow this year?

By Kyle on 23/07/2009
Don't allow. Those two skills are only "The more money you have the better" skills.

By Back to Own on 23/07/2009
Damn, I just destroyed all of my savings eck12.gif

Skilling sad.gif

I Think TBE would be a very good choice.

By David on 23/07/2009
I'm fine with you having a role in it George.

I agree with Kyle, don't allow buyable skills.

By George on 23/07/2009
Well technically all skills are buyable.
If we disallow herb + con... then we have to disallow cooking, fletching, etc

By VEPHYSAURAS on 24/07/2009
Yeah you do it this year, you have the most practice with the skilling events.

Are we allowing summoning? Easy win for me lol.

By David on 24/07/2009
George, if you want to get technical...we can't really have much of a skill war. Mining should be banned because people could use the Adze instead of a Rune Pickaxe. No FM because people could use boosters. No WC because some people don't have a Dragon WC axe.

I think you know exactly what I meant.

Cooking costs near nothing. Fletching costs near nothing when using the right logs. So people with limited resources can still get loads of experience whilc to get a lot in Herblore and Construction you need piles and piles of cash.

By George on 24/07/2009
I was just discussing neko2.gif

Ok so con + herby stay disallowed. Summoning as well, as well as all the other combat skills, including prayer, range + magic.

Pugsi, the TBE event coord, wanted to know more, so I replied. Awaiting his second response biggrin.gif

By David on 24/07/2009
What did you tell him? So we can discuss amongst ourselves as well.

By George on 24/07/2009
I sent this to Pugsi:
QUOTE
Pugsi,
Another pm from your favourite WG Member!@!@ wub.gif

Every year, at around this time, July/August, WG holds it's very own "Skills Olympics" against another clan.
In 2007 we defeated BoS (ex-allies) and in 2008 we challenged and crushed TDM.
We did ask you guys last year but your staff said that it wasn't a good time or something, so now we challenge you again!

The basic idea is this: (quoted from the rules topic I made for the 2008 olympics vs TDM)

    Quote:

The WG Skills Olympics is a fun skills competition created by Renoldojr10 and Bambaleo!
It is where WG competes against a clan (in this case TDM) at each Runescape Skill.
The clan who wins the most amount of skills will win the Skills Olympics.

The amount of skills you can enter:

    Quote:

The reason we have a limit on the amount of skills you may enter is so that everyone has a chance to compete for their clan and have fun.
It is particularily important that you ONLY enter a skill if you can gain a decent amount of exp, not just to gain attendance.

Experience Monitoring: (Tracking the exps)

    Quote:

Each skill will have one person appointed as an "Exp Monitor".
This person will have the task of taking the ending exps of everyone participating in their appointed skill at the end of the week.
They will also be in charge of updating the exps gained every few days.
This job will only be given to active members!

What skills are counted?

    Quote:

    Agility
    Cooking
    Crafting
    Farming
    Firemaking
    Fishing
    Fletching
    Hunter
    Mining
    Runecrafting
    Slayer
    Smithing
    Thieving
    Woodcutting

Skills not included:

    Quote:

    Attack
    Strength
    Defence
    Hitpoints
    Prayer
    Magic
    Range
    Summoning
    Herblore
    Construction

All combat ones, including ones you can buy/are very difficult.... although I suggest thrat we discuss allowing herby + construction maybe.

So is TBE interested? Jungle said to talk to you.
If so, I will send you all the info, i'm not going to lie, it wouild require quite a lot of organisational things on your behalf.....

However may I suggest that we get a new forum built just for this on the TBE forums? So I can post topics...
Maybe give me , just me a special mask for the duration of the 1-week-olympics so that I can post stuff, make new topics etc.
Perhaps so that that forum is only viewable to all TBE members + me.

Thoughts?
Questions?

Then:
QUOTE (Gorgemaster)
Well, as I explained it would be one week of skilling.
Each member can sign up for two skills and then they just start skilling on the day it starts and their exp is taken at the end of the week.
I have talked to the WG staff and we feel that con + herby should be disallowed (as well as the others mentioned above - summon, all combat skills including range, mage + prayer).
SO are you guys interested? It's really fun, gets every clan member involved and its a chance for TBE + WG to get to know each other even more.

Oh I didn't explain who wins:
Well obviously the team (WG or TBE) who gains the most exp in a certain skill will win that skill, so if WG gets 5mill total cooking exp and TBE gets 7 mill exp in cooking, then TBE will win that skill.
The clan that wins the ENTIRE OLYMPICS is the clan with the most exp overall, throughout ALL the skills.

Sounds good to me George. I assume we'll also have a cap on how many people participate for a particular skill?

Because technically we could have everyone use their allotted skills on the same two, right?

Also, why not give us Event Leaders access to the TBE forum if it is created, or should we just let you handle everything like last time and us just sit back and watch?

By George on 25/07/2009
Something v. odd is going on....
I was talkin to Pugsi last night and saying that I really needed an answer if they were interested... and somehow he turned the conversation into a "i'm no good at my job" convo... got upset and then left . FML :/

I need to talk to Jungle + the other admins about this forum thing if they want to participate, so I don't know yet neko2.gif

By VEPHYSAURAS on 25/07/2009
Sounds good, there should be a cap for each skill that is agreed...lol.

By George on 25/07/2009
Ok TBE staff are discussing it right now!

By David on 28/07/2009
Updates please?

Would like to know about this since we really have no role in it at the moment.

By VEPHYSAURAS on 30/07/2009
Come on George, we left you with this.

By George on 30/07/2009
Not my fault TBE didn't get back to me until 10 mins ago -.-
They had to discuss it with all the staff...

ANYWAY THEY HAVE ACCEPTED OUR CHALLENGE.
Further instructions will follow.
I need to talk to Junglebiscuit

By Groedius on 30/07/2009
