[Scam links] Mantas778871

By JC on 26/07/2009
Once again our forums have been hit by someone giving spam/scam links, so watch out for PM's or topics posted with links in them.

Always check that it is www.runescape.com if its appears to be a runescape window.

The name used this time was Mantas778871, however don't be surprised if another name appears soon frown.gif

Just giving an example...
http://www.runescape.com

Dont worry^ That link is safe, but I made it to prove a point

You'll see that despite what the URL might say, it may not redirect to it, best thing to do if you don't trust the sender is to quote his post/pm/topic and read the bbcode.

Make it so new members registering have to go through email validation before they get posting abilities. Problem solved.

Don't be drawn in. The link they send you may look legit, but that's just the Link's name. The actual link can be seen by mousing over the name of the link, and looking at the bottom left of your browser.

...Or if you have Safari like me (Mac ftw), then you can drag the link to see what it actually is, without actually going to the site. Ex. I dragged Raging's link with my mouse to see that it was actually a link to Google and not to RS, and in doing that, I knew that it was okay to click, even though he said it was already.

OT: Glad I didn't get this pm, although I probably would've deleted it anyway, or else brought it to the attention of the council if they didn't already know.

Probably very few, if any got PM's from him (As he was dealt with fairly quickly, and there is restrictions on newly registered accounts), but its better to be safe than sorry neko2.gif
